Saw the "sack Slav" post. Just thought i'd post.
Slav didn't start one season well for us but each time we ended up playing the best football in the division by the end of the season. We were unlucky (in his first full season) in the playoffs against Reading and then went up deservedly against Villa, after only just missing out on 2nd. We went on a 23 game unbeaten run, started by a Ryan Sessegnon hatrick away at some team in Sheffield who i think were 1st or 2nd at the time. We were around mid table at that point.
He tinkers for about half a season, gradually getting less and less so, before finally playing the same side every week. If you are doing your business late (like our very own Tony Khan does) then i'd imagine it will be Christmas time before you start winning ALL your games. In the mean time i wouldn't panic (although that's always hard in football circles).
I remember Watford coming to the cottage and tonking us 5-0 once with Slav as manager. Unbelievable football and an absolute legend. One of my favourite ever managers. Charlie Cooper (This Country) referred to him as "beautiful" in the run up ton Wembley, which is about right.
Well, anyway, good luck with the season.
...And can i just say, next time when i leave Brammall Lane after an inevitable loss, can you please make sure that us posh Londoners don't get abused by your Father/young-son combos (in the exact same spot each time). Although extraordinary, it wasn't very becoming! : )
