How I am back home tonight without 3 points to toast with this can of lager I do not know!

Left the ground frustrated as hell, should have won it, we did enough to win it and deserved nothing less than to win it but if anything we lacked luck as well as a tiny bit of clinical-ness.

On a more positive and upbeat note I think that was probably one of our best, if not the best all round performance of the season so far. We absolutely battered them and dominated them on their own patch, we commanded the game and didn't give them f-all to sniff at or come at us with which is why I am so flipping frustrated we only got a point!

LONG had little to do, the back four didn't have overly too much to do either because we dominated in midfield and did everything right starting from our very hard working forwards.

Probably the best midfield performance of the season so far, all of them were impressive in one way or another. Some people like to knock DOYLE this season but I think he answered his critics this week and returned a favor to the gaffer who publicly supported him this week. He was all round fantastic but so were the rest of them.

BAXTER is looking immense at the minute, how he didn't score today I don't know at all hitting the inside of the woodwork but had a few other chances which were well carved out. MCGINN was also another stand out in a decent team shift.

Play like that against Oldham and Tranmere and with the luck on our side this time we will hammer them off the pitch. Today all of the gritty hard work came together and we looked like a unit. I will say it again probably the best team performance of the season. Dare I say that continue to play like that consistently and we will bag some points this season and we shouldn't be looking down what so ever.

Overall very happy, very upbeat but very frustrated.

Nice one HPB. Confirmed the RS commentary. Keep up the good work Nigel, onwards and upwards. UTB

Bloody hell does this mean RS got it right for once then?

What did Whinger Edwards have to say about it all? .........Let me guess.....It started "Back in my day" or "If that was me back in my day I would have put every one of those away"

To be honest mate I think on that performance it would have been hard for RS to get it wrong. We started well and then dominated the game and played them off the pitch completely. It was a horrible wet, windy and bloody cold day but the game was more than entertaining enough from the blades to keep the blood flowing and keep us all warm.

Agreed. Amazed that Westley thought a draw was a fair result, we were far superior. But that seems to be shared by their fans, some of whom labelled us as poor. Not clinical perhaps, but our passing and approach play was of a standard they could only dream about.

Carry on like this and we'll soon be out of the bottom half. For them, I expect relegation.

It sounds like we were unlucky then HPB..I was down in London with work trying to tune in to 3 Counties Radio without much success.
A point on the road,a clean sheet and had the better of the play, plus created more chances...so quite a few positives.NC is slowly turning us around. UTB!

No Keith today, thank god for small mercies, but not a good commentary imo. Very droning voice, but positive signs indeed.

Listened to 3CR fm in car which is the equivalent of BBC RS down there, to be honest it is a bit of a bizarre station because they have Luton, MK Dons, Watford, Cambridge and Stevenage and many more by the sounds of the calls but I did hear GW blamed the weather which shows what a bell he actually is because quite frankly we played them off the park. One main difference being we played it on the deck and they tried to hoof it which was never going to work in that wind and secondly I will say it against we played them off the park, we dominated them in the middle of the park and every time they tried to come forward which was a rarity, we forced them back again which in hindsight is probably why they were forced to lump it and fail.

ON ANOTHER NOTE........

Baxter now as a CF what are you making of him? To be honest it's growing on me now, he's getting into some great positions going forward. We still need a Striker in January but Jose for me has definitely stepped up to the plate at the minute. He looks lively and full of confidence.

And......

The first half penalty shout. I could see naff all of it so I don't know but a few around me felt it was? Was it? Wasn't it?

He's pretty much improved week on week since Orient for me.

One thing I did notice too is how often we perhaps played an extra pass than we needed to in order to make sure we got him involved in a move. Unlucky not to bag at least one today.

Thought the one that hit the post was in, the one he put just wide wasn't a bad effort either but should have hit the target for me. But overall defo agree with you in he's getting better week by week. Same applies to McGinn for me as well who also seems to be getting better with the more pitch time he gets.

How did we set up HPB?...was it a Diamond with Baxter behind the Front 2..I hardly caught any Commentary and as you say,3CR were covering 3 games but I couldn't pick ours up.

Sounds very promising mate. Thanks for that. The major disappointment for me is that you are drinking lager. Had it been real ale we'd have won.

As to the commentary, it was truly amateur hour. as I've outlined on another thread. There was no Edwards and the buffoon delivering the commentary could not tell one of our players from another, including, at one particularly risible point, Hill and McGinn!

Quite rightly lawyers need to have things explained to their clients in black and white.
May we take it Pinchy, that the commentator was not moonlighting?

Totally agree with this. Doyle picked up loose balls, tackled well and released the ball quickly. He also provided the comedy moment when he kicked the ball into his own face.

Thought Hill was excellent as well

For me,the game highlighted that.despite Porter's admirable efforts,he rarely looks like scoring and Miller still doesn't look sharp enough

Doyle was MOM for me yesterday and it certainly suited him having Baxter and McGinn in with him. Not sure what you saw in McGinn who started brightly but tired quickly.

I love the fact that our team is a lot more versatile with 442 4231 and 352 being used so far. Two of those formations probably mean we need to be looking for a new right back because when McMahon does get a nosebleed getting forward his crosses are woeful. You would have thought after the goal at Bristol City that smashing the ball across the 6 yard box would be his best option every time.

If we can buy White's, get a fullback and striker on top of getting McGinn fitter we can finish this season strongly.

Morning all, sorry I fell asleep watching Match Of The Day last night.

Not sure what you saw in McGinn who started brightly but tired quickly.

I don't think he tired quickly at all. I think he did the basics right for most of the match and looked well and dangerous going forward. I like Freeman but I think McGinn made him look frail defensively a couple of times and he had a couple of efforts second half as well, one I remember near the death of the game. Overall he was a pivotal part of a very good Midfield yesterday that absolutely starved Stevenage and commanded the game.

we need to be looking for a new right back because when McMahon does get a nosebleed getting forward his crosses are woeful.

I am starting to think that people have a bit of a chip on the shoulder when it comes to McMahon. He's somewhat of an unsung hero at the minute and for me he's playing some of the best football we have seen him play. Since Clough has come in we have seen his all round game play improve for me. He is getting forward in much more advanced positions as a "wing back" as such and although his crossing isn't world class (but then again he is more of a full back after all and not a winger) but never the less he is playing the part well and is still getting a few decent enough balls in and has created goals and opportunities. He also looks much fitter and his work rated has improved ten fold, for me I think people need to lay off him a bit. He's doing a decent enouh job for me at the minute.

It was a good performance, and as 0-0 draws go quite entertaining.

We created lots of chances, but just lacked that clinical finish. To my mind on occasion too many touches and not enough shooting. SHOOOOOT.

Correct me if I am wrong but did their keeper have to make more than one save in the second half. He missed the shot which hit the underside of the bar/post?

Lot's of positives and I remain confident that we can find mid-table security in the next month.

HH

Get a chip or two as football is a game of opinions. I actually thought McMahon had a good game and there was a time in the 1st half where he save the ball from going out, managed to stick his foot out win the ball and was flying off down the line. What I was saying is that for Clough to play 2 of the formations he wants he needs to find a better attacking full back who can deliver a cross. I think this is why he is interested in Brayford.

McGinn has the talent, just needs to be fitter and get up and down the pitch without having Baxter alongside.

Fair enough mate personally though still think McMahon has a big part to play this season.

As for McGinn he's getting sharper every week. Like you I think he has fitness issues but I don't think these have hindered us or his overall performances however if he could get these up he would be immense agreed. He did have a bad injury though which is probably why he's playing league one football with Sheffield United in all fairness. I'm confident he has plenty to come as well, think he could be a key player for us.

The bloke is a complete dick, how can him talking bollocks be a surprise? :)
I had to laugh at his post match comments, quote " the wind made it difficult for us to get the ball down"
Has he ever wanted to get the ball down?!

MacMahon has a problem with the fact that he comes across as a bit of tosser on the pitch with a bad attitude ,but having heard him on the radio at the Childrens Hospital the other day he sounded well grounded and a nice bloke. He has improved hugely with Clough , hope it continues.

Yes but you miss one major issue, if that was back in his day he would have put it in the back of the net. Fact is you can moan all you like about him but he has been there and done it so in my book can moan all he likes.

114 goals in just under 200 appearances. Thats not including the 29 in 70 appearances for us earlier in his career. If anyone knows how to score goals its him.

Agreed. Keith was an exciting player to watch. He had a real gift, even if he was economical with his work rate, you just knew if he had half a chance it would be on target. He was that clinical.

Baxter is in a central position on all highlights, and the match report on the official site says Miller played up front. Did McMahon cover the right hand side on his own?

McGinn drifted out from midfield occasionally and Miller played more from the right up front. When the game started I think it took the players a while to get used to the formation but as the game went on and we had more of the ball we were finding a lot of space down that side. We gave ourselves a few two on ones down the right in the second hard as they didn't know who to pick up from McMahon and one of either Baxter, Miller or McGinn. Mostly the final ball wasted what was good movement.

Whilst you are right to an extent, football is a completely different game these days with athletes as defenders. Edwards was a cracking footballer and scored some cracking goals but it makes me wonder how successful he would be in this day and age.

Scoring goals hasn't changed. Did you ever see the great man in action? You can be fitter and faster but you can't train what Edwards had.
