We had this discussion about the formation after the Leicester game I think ,I pushed for it mainly because I think it suits the players we have ,our full backs are better at going forward and we have 3 decent centre backs.I also wanted to use Fleck-Basham -Fleck as a 3 man midfield because although they all have attributes playing in a 2 man is asking too much of them. This was before the last 3 signings but doesn't alter my thoughts , in fact strengthens them as all 3 can fit into the system. Things might change in the future but Warnock philosophy was always to use the system to suit the players ,not the other way round.I think the mentioned players' coming back into the reckoning shows that we should be careful about writing players off. When the team in general is not well balanced and can't find attacking rhythm, as has been the case the last couple of seasons, some players will look worse than they are, being asked to do things they're not great at while being unable to show the things they are good at. Too often fan put this down to laziness, or being shit full stop, when some tactical tweaks, some other player types around them can make a real difference.
Personally I'll admit I was sceptical about the formation we chose on Saturday. It seems to be a fans' favourite formation, but few teams manage to do well with it in the long term. On Saturday though, it worked well and it was a good way of countering Gillingham's diamond. Gillingham had no wingers, and their main threat was always going to be their two strikers + Dack just behind them. We made this area of the pitch congested, and they found it difficult. Going forward we struggled at first, but gradually our attitude and determination meant that we got the better of the game.
Not sure it's a formation we'll keep playing, but it's great that the players (after a mediocre start) managed to adapt, and full credit to Chris Wilder for coming up with a plan that in the end won us the game.
McNulty is injured ,if Wallace couldn't get on at right back today then I don't see him having a future. I would try
Ramsdale
Wilson-Wright-OConnell
Freeman-Fleck-Coutts-Whiteman-Hussey
Calvert-lewin-Clarke
in a 3-5-2

His tackling has been great these past two games, full blooded and well timed. No chilling out needed pal. He played brilliantly in both full back and wing back over the past two games. He`s a poor full back. His positioning is gash, his tackling is gash and he`s always trying to get back from a forward run.
Chill out. He`s a good wing back who`s been played out of position. Crap full back.

Coutts has looked a different player these past few games as well. Good managers get the best from certain playersOk pal. He`s been "brilliant" for 2 games.
Lets forget what a crap full back he`s been for the previous 40 odd.
That's almost an essential quality of being a blade isn't it? SUFC have been doing it for years.?............making me look a massive twat
I slagged Freeman off on here when we sold Brayford. His last two performances are making me look a massive twat
He really wasn't. He might have tailed off form wise, but for the first 10 or so games he was very good.Let's be reight. Freeman was absolutely shocking last season when he played. He was so bad that even the opposition goalkeepers were targeting him from their goal kicks.
But he seems to have got his shit together and is now something like the player he was before Brayford signed for us on a perm. Good luck to the lad, on his day he's a quality right back. He just needs to remember that off his day he woudnt get into a conference side and keep working hard.
