Mills and Boone and Benson and Hedges.

I hope to god one is Luke Freeman.

Don't want to piss on your chips, but what makes you think we could afford his wages if we cannot afford what Waghorn was offered ?

I have no idea what Freeman is on or what Waghorn will be earning at Derby.
Just my gut feeling that Freeman at a London Club that liked flashing the money about, would be on a fair bit more than Waghorn was on at Ipswich.

Last week I posted what Dyche said in an interview regarding recruitment. ‘You shake hands on a deal, then the agent takes it and markets it to every other club that might be interested, we’ve had several where we thought we’d done a deal but then it’s fallen through’.

What do you think has happened with Waghorn? My guess is exactly that, we’ve agreed a deal in principle, Derby have then offered him a lot more than we can afford so he’s gone there.

Yep I imagine that's exactly what has happened and the worry is it will keep happening when clubs like Boro, Leeds and Swansea are still in the market for players.

Well I just hope at least one of these bids comes off. Partly due to obviously needing better players in several positions in order to be able to compete but mainly due to me not being able to cope with any more fax machine related 'jokes' on Thursday.

How many players have we actually bid for so far?

If it’s less than 10 I would be amazed, considering wilder has informed us of his wish to improvr us, or do you think we just sit there until an agent rings? Might as well ditch Mitchell if that’s the case.

We know we have been actively looking, would you not agree? So for me when we are severely lacking in a couple of areas having only 4 bids would be a worry. My hope is there will be more calls and bids going on.

We have made 3 signings, 2 of which are loans.

Yes, it will. Were you expecting something different?

No it's just extremely frustrating. I actually think the club are showing a level of ambition they haven't for years with the players they are looking at but it looks like we may need a re-think regarding our transfer policy. I hope we end up with Freeman, Gallagher and Hogan or whatever and it all works out but I fear we will be pipped to the post again .

It's a tough one. Nobody wants to end up like Wednesday but if we are serious about improving I'm struggling to see a way to do it without raising the wage bill.

In Freeman Gallagher and Logan we still lack pace.

Logan is unrealistic as villa don’t need to subsidise the wages anymore.

Freeman will be on more wages than Waghorn and will expect more if going for 3m

Southampton will have to subsidise but see him more going to Boro under Pulis.

You mean run the club at a greater loss? Is that likely when we have two owners suing each other over ownership of a club neither can afford to run?

I don’t think anyone is saying that. We have a rough idea how much is in the biscuit tin. The approach we are taking is not working. The only thing that holds me hope in the perm market is that teams buying now need to ditch players sooner or later but that’s cast offs. I would be amazed if it wasn’t just a couple of loans now, where we can get better quality using some of the transfer money. Not ideal but that feels like the market we should be in

It's an inflated market at the moment, you've got to pay top dollar fee and wages to get a quality player, especially a proven striker, are we looking abroad does anyone know?

Don't know why he was shopping for someone he couldn't afford anyway. Unrealistic. Surely his agent made it known what he was on and would move for?

Who's available for £50K 5 minutes before the window shuts and is he as good as Donaldson?

2 permanents, surely (McGoldrick, Man City lad)?

The likes we've been linked with so far would all fit in our system but we can't fit them in our wage structure.

You're wrong, we're not skint, we bid 5.5 for Waghorn. We could use that money to buy Hogan (as an example) most probably and mitigate the wage increase with the rest of the transfer fee... but the "wage structure" means that isn't possible.
Wednesdays wage structure dictates that they can't sign anyone.

Aye, bollox to all these bids that end up coming to nothing because of bastard wages.

Sign up a fuck load of lower league players and hope we get a fair share of Baldfleckoconnelish players, loan out the Husseyrrutherholmesish players that we'd inevitably get.

More efficient than bidding for players we've no chance of getting.

Got to look at whos gone/going where to see what other players are being pushed out!

Hoping it someone decent and not Devante Cole

Nail on head. There's Boro, Stoke, WBA, Swansea, Leeds, Villa, Derby, Forest just off the top of my head that all will beat us to players if there is common interest. No guarantee these 8 will finish above us or all even finish in the top 8 but we are not close to competing with the above clubs for players in terms of wages/deals etc.

Next year 2 or 3 of above will probabky go up and 2 or 3 will come down and have similar ability to flash the cash. It's frustrating but where we are at. It means if Wilder repeats last year's top 10 or higher we have punched above our weight for me.

Not sure it will change any time soon ...until the ownership situation is resolved. Concern is in 12-18 months that the likes of Wilder, Fleck, O'Connell may move on off the board cannot give us chance to compete with the top clubs.

Be great if we can break our precious wage structure to sign any of them.

I assume not.

Really disagree.
Breaking a wage structure is so tempting but potentially it’s a road to ruin.
It means our signings may not be committed as they are only coming for the money.
It also can cause squad unrest because other players then want a pay rise.

Don’t want our club to gamble with our future.
They might ask the fans to help out and put the prices up to £35 to £40 a match.
