Chaps,

Ironside off to Halifax. Probably his level.
Leaves us with Porter, King, Miller & Taylor.
King & Porter not good enough.
Taylor is squad player.
Miller ok at this level.

With nobody wading-in (or, capable of wading-in) from midfield, fairly obvious why we are struggling. Let's hope NC can see this too.

I would imagine he can see this and surely he will be scouring the loan market and identifying a couple of decent strikers,or when the transfer windows opens again.
A good target man is top priority i reckon!

Goals is our main problem and was last season, should be interesting to see what happens going forward (see what I did there?).

I think you're behind the game on this one Putters.

Wasn't it revealed earlier in the week that the Porter/Miller combo is the 3rd Division equivalent of Rush and Dalglish?

How soon before the Ladbrokes kiosk is showing Harry as the Jolly to be first scorer.

Baxter scored 20 goals for Oldham last season which is probably more than Porter over the last years.

I think we should be looking at Baxter, Miller and Taylor and getting in another. Porter and King can do one and Ironside could probably do with this and another season out on loan to see if he develops

Is it no surprise that Porter played (and well) on Saturday? Clough had him at Derby and I feel we'll be seeing more of him

I don't think we are in bad shape when it comes to front men, Clough saying that they are not match fit, which might explain the under-performance.
I think we have goals in them four, Taylor as a great strike on him and scored plenty last season, Miller and Porter was a decent pair even if it was short lived before and King as scored bagfuls for every team he has played.
But saying all that I won't say no to an extra striker.

He's scored 12 in 48 starts for us, then just once as a sub. So his goal ratio isn't horrible when he starts games, although his sub appearances clearly ruin his record.

What's his record on days without at S in them? I reckon we'll have him rivalling Van Persie, one way or another.

If we do have money i'd quite like us to make a move for Jay Emanuel Thomas from Brizzle. He's s**t hot at the moment.

I think we've got some fairly decent options up top and out wide, although being second bottom and with a recognised problem of scoring over the last 18 months then there's always room for improvement.

For me centre mid is where we are really poor and would be my priority in the transfer window. One that can win the ball, lead and inspire the team (what Doyle is supposed to do) and one that can pass the ball and create openings for the forwards and wide players .

Is 12 goals from 48 starts an irrelevant stat when it comes to judging him?

Of course it is fella, I'm just poking fun. The serious point is that lots of players are primarily subsititutes for long periods of their career. If you viewd their stats from "starts" only, it would give you a very biassed view of their record.

Though12 in 48 is already poor for a striker, I don't think it nearly does justice to how poor his strike rate is. I think the points made about the other side of Porter's game are a better defence of his awful strike rate.

Watch yourself Sitters, people will start calling you names if you start saying things like that.

I'm not sure I've called you any names, have I?

"Are you on Meths", "the idiots in this thread" are ways of insulting people, directly and indirectly. I think you need a mirror fella.

As I said in August, when he had 8 goals, his record suggests he will hit double figures around Christmas time.

12 in 48 is shite anyway. especially as a lot of those starts were in a team challenging for promotion in a pub league. Imagine how many he'd get if we were bottom of the league only scoring 30 goals all season. Oh wait...we are. And he's got round about none. Give or take none.

In any case There's a notable difference in the ratio when he's been sub and when he's started. Not sure why that is? Not exactly been comeback-kings, have we, the last few seasons? Never Usually Say Die? Has he come on primarily to waste time or defend set pieces? Does he need to be part of a pre-planned tactic, where the team are intent on giving him the type of service he needs, to convert?
