Next year will be either 6 or 7 years since we started playing 5-a-side between a few of us on the forum.

Over the years, it's ranged from as low as 8 or so regulars to far too many to fit on a pitch, but over the last few months it's dwindled somewhat - meaning we've struggled to play regularly.

This isn't good, because it's a great way to fill a Sunday morning (or alternative time if more popular) and have a light hearted laugh and "run about" offering our own unique brand of the game we all love. It also offers a great way to meet and get to know other forum members.

I intend to attempt to get things up and running with more regularity in the new year, so this is a call to the regulars, those who've fallen by the wayside and those who've thought it might be a good idea but never quite got around to it... Dust off your boots or trainers and come and have a laugh with us.

If you've never been before, get yourselves along! we currently play at Pitz (or Powerleague as it's now known) and usually end up chucking in a couple of quid each to pay for the pitch, the more turn up, the cheaper it is. It's all AstroTurf (the latest generation stuff, so no carpet burns) and they've recently re-surfaced a few pitches. Given that we usually go during quiet times, this couple of quid gets you plenty of opportunity to strut your stuff until no-one can continue to jog without collapsing.

As those who've been before will attest to, it's a friendly, light hearted knock around and usually provides plenty of entertainment with a whole range of ages, "fitness" levels and qualities (believe it or not, some of you aren't actually better than [INSERT CURRENT SCAPEGOAT HERE] :D). Everyone is welcome providing you come with the intentions of having a laugh and not taking yourself too seriously! :) You can even bring a mate along to hold your hand.

So, who is in for the first Sunday of the year? Sunday 6th January at 10.30am

Please confirm your intentions to attend by replying to this thread... If you've read this thread and are a no, please tell us why? the wrong day? the wrong time? something putting you off?

I'll turn up.***

*If I'm not working
*If I'm not in a coma from the night before
*If the train turns up on time

I keep intending to play but usually have a bit of a hangover on a Sunday. I'll try harder this year and hopefully form a good habit.

I'll most likely start to come again when my Sunday league season is over, that isn't till mid-February though :)

I'm up for it! Just so I can show the young uns a few tricks! (can I say this or will I get a knock on the door?)

:)

If it wasn't for my chocolate knee's I'd be there for you all to basque in the magnificence of my Maguire-esque defensive solidity.

I'll be there whenever I'm in Sheffield for the weekend to add some bulk to the proceedings.

To back up what Foxy is saying though it's been a good laugh whenever I've turned up and if you've not given it a go before because you don't know anyone who plays there's nothing to worry about - that was me 6 months ago.

Foxy I'll be around Sheffield this Sunday, so may wander over to Pitz to at least watch and get involved in the buzz again. Not played footy for almost 6 years because of knee ops, but will start to make a gentle comeback in the next few months. Started, running on tread mill and need to get outside once the ice/ snow in Switzerland goes, but the only issue then will be my confidence.

So if I'm around sheff at weekends in 2013, I'll try to pop over to the forum footy

Hi Foxy,
Happy Christmas to you and Linz.
No good to me unless you start a team for the over 70's!

UTB

It is the 400 mile round trip that puts me off. Otherwise would pop along.

It's a bit short notice to get enough for this Sunday now and it's already one down as we're in London... :)

Come and have a run out once you're happy with the knee... if the worst comes to the worst you can just hobble around and compare injuries with that faker raul, he likes to pretend his knee hurts from time to time :D

I'm nearly 60. 6 stones overweight grey haired and not played for years. Would I fit in?

With stats like those, you'd be the star man, never mind fit in! :)

why have you puta picture of your friend on?

So people know how to recognise you on their first visit :)

They'll know I'm the one banging them in like Messi.
