Former Sheff Utd player Andy Woodward

Just been listening to Talk Sport.

The news item said "police have confirmed that they are speaking to several other players regarding the child abuse in football interview given by ex Sheffield United player Andy Woodward".

Thought to myself... who's Andy Woodward? ....never heard of him, maybe they mean Alan Woodward?

So I've just checked Wikipedia and it shows he played a total of 3 (THREE) matches for us in 99-00 season.

He started at Crewe, made 20 appearances (that's where the abuse occurred)
Was then at Bury for 5 seasons making 115 appearances
Then to Sheff Utd making 3 appearances
Then went to Scunthorpe on loan making 12 appearances
Then finishing at Halifax making 30 appearances.

So from the above his closest links are with Bury not us.
Always makes me laugh that the media are linking a player with us that made 3 appearences.
Can anyone remember him playing for us?

The above mentioned player, Andy Woodward, was a victim of child sex abuse, and not a perpetrator.

He was preyed upon when he was a youngster, by an adult football coach. Many others are now coming forward, to say that they were also abused by the same football coach.

Well done Andy Woodward, and good luck for the future.

I remember him playing for us, didn't look a great player but Warnock bought him and Paddy with him from Bury and had high hopes for him.
