Always mystifies me when people suggest Berge as a CAM, or even a right-sided attacking mid.

He's a CM/CDM just like Ampadu. Here's my ideal line-up including rumoured possible signings.

Agreed, Norwood is a key player (see below). I think Berge may play AM (note he played there twice in pre season)

Formations are primarily to describe how a team lines up when they're out of possession.

The main difference between the 3-5-2 and the 3-4-1-2 is that the latter allows the no 10/Duffy to not always defend in line with the other two central midfielders. This allows him to spend a little more energy and focus on the attacking part of the game. On occasions Duffy did pull down to play RCM and that was to help out defensively against the better teams.

We haven't found a new Duffy for the level we're at, and besides we've thought it's been a requirement, an absolute necessity, to have three players across the midfield to cover enough space defensively. The way you get punished for defensive mistakes, loss of concentration or tactical naivety is a big difference between Premier League and Championship.

Everybody suggesting a switch back to 3-4-1-2 (or 3-4-3) should try to also include a few thoughts on how they think we can get away with it defensively, not just imagine the attacking benefits.

If Berge plays like he did in preseason he's definitely a RCM.

I watched him play for Norway and he honestly looked wasted playing so deep.

He can drive at teams while protecting the ball amazingly and his passing is impeccable, if he works on headers and defensive positioning from set pieces, he'll be well away.

Spot on Bergen, the shape last season, with odd exceptions did us proud. The structure of the team resulted in one of the best defensive records in a not too shabby league, why would we need to alter that?
I am not dismissing the need for a plan B, but let’s not have change because others play a certain way.
