Twiss was signed on loan by Steve Bruce. You are thinking of James Thomas who scored the winner against Preston but it wasnt a 30 yard belter, he ran onto a long pass before hitting a low shot
That’s one I have no recollection of at all. James Thomas?

Ah that'll be the age catching up - or more likely the shed load of Stones' at the Lion before kick off!:)

Barrington Edward Hayles managed 4 appearances and no goals for us.

I seem to remember him scewing his instep over the top of a ball and stopping it dead when trying to pass it into a relatively unguarded goal.

Ack, I nearly said David Healy scored on his Preston debut that day, but I thought I was getting cocky with too much info and you'd pick me up on a mistake! That match really sticks, for some reason.

Some thoughts on that clip (I also watched the 2-0 in the previous match):

David Kelly was an underrated player for us. Well taken goals and two well-won penalties.

Bobby Ford was a hell of a penalty taker.

Paul Devlin in full flight was an absolute joy. So productive on his day.

That Preston game nicely punctures the myth that Brown was nothing before his famous breakout season. He had in fact put in plenty of MOTM performances before that.

Paul Devlin great player would fit well into the present side

As the thread says .. forgettable .. Jesus Christ I’never realised until listed some of these wankers I’d seen in a Utd shirt .. reading through I cant stop shaking my head & pulling faces recalling some of these characters

Who the fook is that? He looks like ex Villa and Derby manager John Gregory's love child.

Has there ever been a biggish football club that has never played non league football had so many non league players play for it

Dean Sturridge (I remember his Derby career, just not us ever having him or him making 4 appearances for us during the 03/04 season)

That's a cracker. I can't remember him playing for us and I would have been at those games! Tommy Johnson on the otherhand... :-o

Tommy Black on loan is about as obscure as I can think of, though there have been some belters in this thread so far.
