Forest bid for MGW

Yeah so one of the factors has to be more prominent for forest. Hassenhutl might go if they don't start well whereas steve cooper is on the crest of the wave. But in reality it comes down to money. I want us to only overpay fees if we are super confident they'll fit the style immediately and actually add a few notches more quality than we currently have. Fwiw, I think MGW will go somewhere higher than either us or Southampton

Im my mind Southampton and Leeds are the two at the top of the bottom tier of the prem with the other teams you mentioned.

Same money, same promise of role, same sort of manager, most players should pick Newcastle over us every time.

Southampton I'm not sure about. They look a bit flakey this year.
Whilst I can understand the optimism you are no doubt feeling right now, it'd probably be best to refrain from talking as if your team is part of the premier league furniture for a bit, especially as a ball hasn't even been kicked yet. Rude awakening doesn't even begin to cover what it can be like.

Southampton have an awful lot to keep them up. The fact a few pundits and bookies have started tipping them as potential strugglers is merely them trying to find a new club to take up the role of the perennial "PL club that might be in trouble this season" (now that Burnley have gone). I'd argue Hassenhuttl isn't really any more vulnerable than Lampard or the non-descript Leeds guy to the 'slow start'. Cooper too. He may be on a crest of a wave with fans but owners can do irrational things, especially the newly promoted if they decide to start gambling to try and stay up.

Yeah definitely know what you mean. We've got half a team based on our approach to loans so we should be probably by a distance least likely to stay up. I was just saying that I think if you took every fans view on who finishes where, you would say southampton would be in the mix with Leeds and Brentford for 15th-17th. Then again I thought CP would be relegated last season.

As any Blade would take a 50k a week pay cut to receive a legend status of course we would

You just prove my point so why call him a legend ? :) Billy is a legend, I dont think Henderson is a "loan legend"

He's not even close. He chased the kings coin, which is entirely his prerogative and I hold no ill will towards for that, but it was clear what was going to happen.
He never had the profile to hold down No1 at Man Utd. He would have been better signing with a sensible buy-back clause but we wouldn't have paid the wages he's on now, so he took the deal, made a lot of money, played 13 league games in two year and now he's stuck with Notts Forest while praying someone else comes in for him.

How many times did Billy leave 7 clubs not including the loans I think and with the sales ect he has deservedly made a lot of money. It's \a short career make as much as you can because you never know when it might end ( JOC hope not but possible ). If a Walker comes back in two years for a final season or two after making multi millions he should also be a Blades legend then ? and I aint saying Billy isn't as he is.

Set for life but he hasn't had half the career he could have had so far.

If A Walker returns I'm giving up. I'm done. Andy not so bad goal ratio wise but he wasn't nearly sixty..

Yeah it's a real shame. I don't blame him for securing the rest of his life, I just live in hope that someone in future will be brave enough to do what's best for their career and it pay off in spades.

I don't believe you are entirely serious here, but just incase you are.
  • Billy was sold each time by the club, not because he wanted to go or forced a move.
  • He came back to play for us in league one when he was clearly a Championship level player.
  • 51 goals in 90 appearances for us in league one .
  • Over 10 years service.
  • He'll break 300 league appearances this season, on track to finish his career with possibly over 400.
  • He's played more games for us than all his other clubs combined.
  • He's scored over 120 goals and is in the top ten Blade goal scorers of all time.
  • He's a Blade.
I'll let you do Hendo.

It's total greed though really isn't it ?

When fans compare it they say "Wouldn't you go and work elsewhere for more money"

But it's not the same at all, these guys are hardly starving and wondering where the next mortgage payment is coming from.

If a 21 year old earning £40,000 a week can't be financially secure, I don't know who can be.

If a 21 year old can't be happy with £40,000 a week and getting first team football every week, building a career for himself and learning how to be better so that he eventually gets his £150,000 a week contract at Man United as first choice instead of third choice, I don't know when they'll be happy.

Who have we lost from the premiership squad now?

Lundstrum, Ramsdale, Moose, Freeman, JOC (in a way), Jagielka, Ampadu, McGoldrick and apart from Davies as back up GK have we made a permanent signing?

That’s a huge amount of players lost & not replaced

Apart from didzy joc and jags the rest can get to fuck

Ampadu was a loan, but yeah the lack of permanent signings is worrying in general.

Not really transfer window doesnt end till close of Aug. If people are moaning now what are they going to be like 3rd week in Aug and no signings probably have to scrape most of the forum members off the ceiling.

I just meant players that we had during that time. Just how many players that filled the squad that we no longer have

It’s a worrying about of players though that we’ve lost from the squad in terms of options. Agree with you though most were useless

We've signed no one permanently since summer 2020, have we? I'm not talking about this window.

Just Davies but even he’s not officially signed a new deal. You could argue that Croatian lad was too. We’ve not paid a transfer fee though since summer 2020

It's a massive gamble. Could be a masterstroke if they stay up and he shows the form he did at West Ham.

If they go down however, they are going to find it really difficult to offload him on that salary given no other teams are willing to give him that money now whilst he's a free agent. Can't imagine him being willing to agree to much of a reduction if they go down either.

Their owner is loaded, but restrictions on spending are more stringent in the Championship so he's spending freely now they are in the Premier League. If I were a fan, I'd be quite concerned about them offering these sorts of contracts, a quick scan of Twitter suggests their fans generally aren't concerned about it, which is funny given how much they criticised Derby fans for not showing concern when they were being run badly and essentially saying they got what they deserved.

Crikey. I mean Lingard is a good PL player.

As mentioned though having one player on £180,000 and many of the rest on 30-55k your asking for some discontent. Especially if Lingard started to get a bit lazy or anything.

Do think they are probably giving up on MGW.

Their approach has never really worked, basically brand new starting 11 with little to no depth. If they drop after 1 season they will be fooked
The depth is what remains of last season’s squad minus Grabban and the loans.
A bunch of Championship level players was good enough for one recently promoted side to get as high as 9th !!

Strange one. Cooper would have to be confident of managing him if he is on big dough.

Let be right, his wages currently are zero so what he was on at Man united is a little bit irrelevant. Its how much of a premium we would pay over the next highest bidder to come to us rather than them (likely west ham who he worked well with and have European football) so 100k+ seems reasonably likely.

I've seen rumours that we will pay a massive signing fee and then pay wages more akin to the rest of of squad. That might work assuming you could spread the signing bonus across the life of the Contract. In essence rather would be the same as a transfer fee. Risk there is he gets lazy with 15 mil in the bank on day one though.

If he is motivated, he could be a steal and actually worth more to us than MGW in terms of giving us the best chance of stopping up given MGW isn't established quality in the prem. We have a lot of people of that mould so the squad would benefit from tried and tested prem quality

On a side, it's interesting how many people know exact figures in the prem (or more likely all make them up) whereas championship transfers are a lot more "undisclosed"
