Feeling all sorry for a millionaire who's holding us back...oh the humanity..

I don't feel sorry Dean Hammond, I feel sorry for the board member who's gaff as ultimately landed us in this mess. There are no loyalties, the man isn't a Sheffield United fan. We offered him the contract, he'd be stupid not to take it.

Football made him a millionaire, he probably lives a life many can only dream of and SHEFFIELD UNITED have ultimately prolonged it and allowed him to live this life after retirement. Stop being so pious, would you rather live to a similar level after retirement or cut back on luxury after you've been exposed to it for years previously?

Exactly.

I can see why he'd initially signed up for the deal, who wouldn't.

I think his effort was there, hence the endless bookings. However he needs to be honest with himself and either drop another division or retire, he's lost any pace he did have and spends most games chasing shadows and subsequently breathing out of his arse, and making late tackles because he can't keep up with the pace.

I can't see him even getting a squad number, KMc spoke about signings with dead legs, CW has listed him, and the crowd are on his back. He can't be that stupid....can he?

I don't think its so much about stupidity, more about taking the contract and having skin like a Rhino as well as the pace.

He'll not play until his contract runs out, or until he gets bored and accepts termination by mutual consent or is loaned away.

That or he gets a chance, has the season of his life in a hard, tough to beat blades team and is on the back pages being held aloft by fans during the promotion pitch invasion.

So you think it's ok for him to get free money from the rest of us who actually show up and do our jobs and only earn a fraction of his salary?

He was on the books of a Premier League club last season. He could easily afford to go the next twelve months without earning a penny.

Yeah, because its only the next 12 months he needs to worry about financially isnt it.

Some people need to grow up on this subject.

Ok, it's not an ideal situation...in fact it's proper shite, but move on, it looks plainly obvious he'll not play for us. Like a number of players over the years he's another who we signed a number of years too late.
We're not happy about it surely no
one at the club is but, enough with the silly posts/threads we're treading close to S6 territory...classless

Wow...just wow....I've read all the comments...

Couple of things, agree it's not hammonds fault to take the offer, let's be honest it's great isn't it, the deal will be for really decent money by normal league one standards.

Yes, I am thinking of his children and family, in thier massive house, with a university education awaiting them from thier successfull millionare footballer dads endeavours (X)... His hard work paid off, well done...

Yes it's Adkins fault.... And the owners who clearly aren't close enough to prevent thier money being squandered..

Finally, why couldn't he say, thanks but no thanks and show a bit of pride for himself, not burden us and hold us back, because he's been at this club about 6 months, he knows how desperate we are for a way out of this league, but instead, he's not given any consideration to how he will hold the club, and it's fans back for his own selfishness.... And that's my gripe...where's the honor, why can't he do the right thing....

Maybe he's thinking for the coming season "I'll show this lot who can play football".

At the end of the day, when the agreement was initially drawn, both parties entered willingly into it. just because his performance levels have been disappointing, doesn't mean he's obligated to sacrifice what we've agreed to pay him. However, by activating that clause. he may put off potential suitors as he's not a free agent. With that in mind, it could be argued he's happy to take the money and not play which would contradict the model professional, great character etc. talk from Adkins. However, I don't think he will be happy with that and fully expect him to be playing for someone else before long having skimmed some more money out of us. As I said before, the bloke must have a bloody good agent.

See that Dean's seeking to cash in on his popularity in Sheffield, by opening up his mansion to the public & showing off his collection of Blades memorabilia.

Museum guide: "Over there in the glass case, is the very boot with which Dean gifted Scunthorpe their first..."

To be fair, his advertising is spot on -

And over there, the boot that kicked Memphis Depay to throw away a lucrative replay.

And down here' you'll see some of the honours Dean collected during his time with the club.

We should try to find out who he is. He might be able to get us contracts.

Not wishing to pick an argument on this, but it's arguable at least that the piety on display is on the "Dean Hammond must be defended" side of the fence - i.e. from those who wish to rise above the fray &, not only not criticise Hammond themselves, but who see it as somehow shocking that many could be angered by Hammond taking (as they see it) this club & its supporters for a ride.

Anyway, why stress about it? The lump of lard is here now & there's sod all can be done about it.

An interesting, difficult managerial problem for Chris Wilder to deal with.

I propose some elaborate ploy to dispose of Dean Hammond, a bit like the Hooded Claw used to do when attempting to get rid of Penelope Pitstop.

No, he doesn't need to worry about the next 12 months at all, income or no income.

He's also very welcome to work 40 hours a week for the next 35 years if he's worried about money so much.

Why are we all getting excited about Hammond as if it's the first time United have dished out a contract to somebody who just isn't going to get a game; Horsefield, Hendrie, Seck, Fahti, that Polish lad knocking goals in for fun whose name escapes me, (Lee) Baxter I assume had some sort of contract and that's off the top of my head.

Let's have it right 90 percent of the cunts we've given contracts to in the last half decade have been a waste of fucking money so I don't know why every fucker is getting in a lather about this one. Fucking hell we paid that useless bastard Flynn for 5 years.

Jihai Sun, Sommeil, ten Heuval, - Pawel Abbot that's the name

Exactly people are acting as if this something new that we do.

It's not the managers most of the time negotiating these daft deals either as much as we want to slate Adkins for signing him in the first place. If someone had some control over the purse strings and said to the manager "You can have Hammond but it's on our terms not his and if he does not want to come here then tough shit. The guy is approaching retirement for goodness sake and if he wants the option to extend his deal then he can fuck off!"

Introduce some sort of policy a bit like what Arsenal have for players over 30. They only get 1 year contracts and the club hold the option to extend the deal. It could be argued that Arsenal had to introduce that policy more down to their awful injury record over the last decade or so.

Why do we need policies? Is it because there is no one at the club bar the manager who is capable of evaluating each case individually?

After the less than favourable reaction to him activating his contract for next season, Dean's making sure his private security is all in place...

There's a drought in Reception? What the hell happened and is there enough water for the rest of the stadium?
