Our budget must be 5 times the budget of Bury.

If we aren't ahead of them by May then there continues to be something seriously wrong at our football club.

I wouldn't be sure of that. They have invested probably as much as us but got better players out if it. Clarke will be on a fair wedge, as will Mellis, Pope, and Soares. Quite a lot of their players are better than ours and certainly on a composite of yesterday's team it would be about 60-40 to them.

We may overtake them in that they have a small squad and if the keeper or Leon Clarke or Peter Clarke gets injured they will struggle. Some refs might not tolerate their constant cheating - but most refs will in this league. We have a big squad but what worries me is we have about 11 reserves who are crocked or tiny and not likely to have an impact in this league.

There is something seriously wrong at our club. We have signed too many small weak (maybe they are neat and tidy in possession) players and are not recruiting the right type of players. We have a large very average squad and our first 11 is not the best in the division. We need substantial investment in better more athletic and stronger players. This will cost money. Jim et al need to sort this out. Not quite signing players has got to stop. We also need to call in a few favours and start shipping out the dross and crocks that are inflating our squad.

I think it's a stretch to suggest Bury and us have spent the same amount of cash.

I listened to the match on BP so not seen the game yet, but the CH position has been an issue for a long time. I noticed that in the Sky table on the number of incoming players we came 88th out of 92 (Walsall were 89th by the way) in all divisions, which may suggest that either the players we need aren't available at the right price or we have to get rid of some of the dross to free up FFP wage money (additional investment would have to go in at the rate of £10 for every £6 spent on wages and I can't see that happening).

I do think Adkins will get this sorted - he's not a fool and he cannot change things overnight. No point buying for the sake of buying - we need the right players - a case of be careful what you wish for. And although it is bitterly disappointing that we lost at home to a team who haven't beaten us at the Lane for 90 years I don't have the feeling that this is symptomatic of a terminal malaise (which I did with Clough). It is worth pointing out that should we win our game in hand we would actually go top. We do need CH sorting and in MF we cannot point to a bit of paper which lists the likes of Coutts and Wallace J. as players since they seem to be perennially injured. I have said it before Louis Reed is a talent but by no means the finished article and it would be a mistake to rely on him for a season. Look what happened to his confidence after last season's away game at Notts County. MF needs strengthening.
