The 3 home performances so far have not been much better than under Clough. Don't think anyone can honestly say we look a massively improved side but it will take time to change style/standards. Just a worry that Adkins has not dumped some of the hangers on that have not been good enough for 3 or 4 season. I for one cannot wait until the end of the season when we can finally get rid of 12-15 players that are simply not good enough if we want to go up and then ultimately stay up.
Yes a top two spot is looking more and more like a pipe dream at this early stage, the performance today was Cloughesque only one player in the team is capable of beating his man but then he has to spoil it by going back and beating him again by which time the forwards have made their runs in anticipation of a cross coming in first time. Plenty of passes along the back four but not many runs from the front two and a midfield that looks very weak and who struggle time after time to pass to a team mate, I don't really want to mention the defending or lack of :mad::mad: It makes me sick to the stomach to lose to teams like Bury straight out of league two who's home support would not fill our away end. For a club the size of Sheffield United it really is a disgrace the players should hang their heads in shame along with the members of the boardroom, seems even Adkins can't polish the turd how long before he becomes just another fall guy for McCabe and Co ?

It's a pity your own understanding is so terminally limited. NA wants Dan Burn. He couldn't get him in the transfer window. He thinks he'll get him before the end of the month.

Who are the "top two" of whom you speak? It's highly unlikely to be the present top two come May. We are averaging two points per game. It might be better than that after Tuesday. That's promotion form. No team is going to open a gap on that.

Try thought rather than jerking your knees, eh?...

Your initial comment is truly ironic.

Is it cold up there deep inside the backside of the people who run the club?

Don't worry, there's always the JTW, eh?

Has anyone actually realized what a good job Bury did on us today? They were very well organized, closed us down at every opportunity & took their chances really well, some people sometimes need to give the opposition some credit. We were lethargic all over the pitch today & maybe got what we deserved, we'l still be above Bury in May when it matters.

Really?? Are you basing that opinion on the result or the manner of play?

I'm basing it upon todaybeing tge first game I have been able to get to this year and I couldn't see a significant difference......poor at the back, unable to control the midfield and couldn't finish for toffee...

That sums up pretty much all that is wrong with us.

All you say is true. I have been to a couple more (not starting a Bigger Bladey Blade post though) and whilst it is work in progress and although today's match was disappointing, I do see development from last season. If I just consider today's match, you are spot on with your observations. But I also see a team with more attacking intent, a manager who didn't want to settle for a draw at 1-1. But it's mostly the same team, with the same technical weaknesses, and we got stung today. I can't accept though that there has been no progress.

We can't win every match and Bury (once we avoid the patronising clichés) are not a poor side.

I'd say most responses this Pinchy chap doles out are also a great example of what's been wrong with us for several years.

Ignore the obvious failings in front of your eyes in favour of attacking the person who points them out.

Crazy logic.

Aim low and always achieve your objectives ;) at times I wonder if ours are to flirt with the play off's but stay in this division to avoid having to spend millions on new players, you know while ever 20,000 turn up every week ;)

Logic is that we should be just as organised as any opposition but we should have far better quality than any in this league (but we don't).

I don't accept that we should be being beaten by these teams.
The very same failings show up time after time yet people shrug and say, "bad day at the office"
Well the office needs to be staffed with better quality people and we need to get shut of players like McEv, Bash (no effect), Woolford (adds nothing) amongst many others. Until we do we will continue to suffer setbacks like this one today - that's two out of 6 and it isn't promotion form. Play offs, maybe but not auto.

first game i've been to this season. what changed apart from the godawful Poland kit?
the lads seem to know what they are doing for a change and even set pieces have improved.. other than that not much improvement over clough tbh..i can't understand why Flynn replaced JCR. they were terrified of him and doubling up on him.. perhaps he was injured.. Flynn does his usual fall on ground routine.. runs about a lot. yadda yadda
Deadbat makes a good point about the spat with Billy and Leon Clarke. their entire team went and joined in. our players went for a drink..McEverly awful .. what else is new .. the ref was shocking for both teams.thought he was the star of the show..
i think we are a bit better overall and i'm prepared to put it down as bad day at the office.. if billy scores.. or Collins connects with one of the three heading opportunities where he completely missed the ball then it's a different game.. their second was a worldy.. he'd miss that 99 times out of 100
i found it hard to follow due to the kit.. i felt like an independent observer at times.. perhaps i've been abroad too long.
disappointing but long way to go yet.. nice pitch Kev

What today probably showed is that we're incapable of dominating the division like we undoubtedly should be doing - certainly if Wigan are struggling. It was only a matter of time until a result like this, it serves us right for inadequate recruitment and I strongly suspect an absolute lack of leadership, knowledge and drive from those at the top. Adkins is far from blameless too, make no mistake, although his positive contributions outweigh his mistakes so far.

I'm sure we'll 'keep plodding on' as negative Nigel said and be thereabouts by January. What else could a club like us possibly aim for in this division?

We need to get Burn and Hammond in and get the injured superstars back to have a chance of actually punching our weight for the first time in years.

Read my post again, I'm not making excuses, i'm telling it as I saw it, like I said, some need to realize we dont have to just turn up to beat 'little' Bury. As i said, we'l be above Bury come May.

SO WE BLOODY WELL SHOULD BE ABOVE BURY IN MAY!!!!

The result only surely

If you watch the game back, look at the complete lack of urgency between McNulty coming on and Bury's winner. Talk of it being a wonder goal and the like are missing the point (although it was a hell of a strike). The team gave that away buy conceding all initiative with around ten minutes left.

Now the performance was OK on the main but that was very worrying. So while it is probably the result that is upsetting let's not pretend there was nothing concerning about the how the team played.

Why SHOULD we be above " Bury " , in May,
We have to EARN the right to be above Bury in May .
Let's not be like the pigs with delusions of grandeur .
Or do we take things for granted because we are a " big " club .
Sounds piggish to me .

Our budget must be 5 times the budget of Bury.

If we aren't ahead of them by May then there continues to be something seriously wrong at our football club.

I agree Pete we should be , and I fully expect us to be above them come May , and promoted ,
but just because we have more money to spend doesn't guarantee you anything , let's earn the fucking thing rather than just buy him , him and him , we'd end like an American football team , or Chelsea ,
by chucking money at it .
Pigs have chucked loads ?? apparently , at the team they have and at the moment are nearer bottom than top .
Pigs and toytown down , Blades up , that's all I want come end of season .

And you can add Man City, Man Ure, etc etc to that list. And their fans have tasted success and won things. And I have lost count of the number of more mature fans of each who would say they don't love it like they used to, that they feel a disconnect from the team. It's all a bit Dr Faustus, but you have to be careful what you wish for at the risk of your soul.

Having said that though, I'll volunteer for a time in the fiery pits of hell if we could get buy a burly CH and a commanding midfielder

I was agreeing with you all the way, then you had to go and spoil it. :D

we'll still be above Bury in May when it matters.

Our players should consistently match or outfight every team we play , the fact that they are on more money than their opponents seems to make them think that alleviates them of these responsibilities

These players will always let us , themselves and their managers down .they just dont have the mentality to consistently compete at the top or at least to give 100 %:every week
Two or three more signings wont change that

You could also add the teams who spent big , to get in , then stay in prem , Bolton , QPR , Wigan .
To name a few , agree bout the signing thou HB , imagine a Morgs type at the back , oh to have a no nonsense man and ball tackler , to partner the Canadian guy at the back , and no Collins ain't this seasons, or a long time partner for him .
UTB.

Bournemouth are in the Prem. No one gives a shit about crowds. We'll end up like Wendy fans if we're not careful and become a parody of ourselves.
My point exactly.
Earn it then talk bout it ,
Not dream bout it and tell everyone it's real .
Delusional pigs fans way

We need another centre half and leader in the middle. I feel assured Nigel knows this as he tried to get in exactly that in the transfer window. I wonder whether he'll now expedite Burn coming in rather than hold off.

With the amount of chances we had we should have been out of sight.

And this is a VERY relevant point.

Yes ...... our defending was dogshit yesterday and hopefully the positive to come out of this very disappointing result will be that NA will drop McEvely, however, lets not let our strikers get "off the hook" for their inability to convert some very good chances.

I maintain my opinion that this current squad is no better than play-off places at best !!! Automatic promotion sides win games like yesterday .... no disrespect to Bury who played some good football and played a weak, clueless and inept set of officials like a musical instrument .....
