We need to spend big money!

Hull are languishing near the bottom of the table and that team they put out cost a few times more than our side. Most of the players like Evandro / Hernández (I know he’s injured) are from the premiership days. Dicko a few wanted him to sign for us was a few million.

To put it in perspective there bench last night:

Stewart £4-6million depending on who you believe. Grosicki £3million. Hector and Frazer Cambell will be on big money.

If we don’t spend big I don’t see how we match up to CWs career ambitions.

you've inadvertently answered your own question.. read what you said carefully.. 'Hull are languishing near the bottom of the table and that team they put out cost a few times more than our side.'
there is more to this football lark than just chucking money at it like you do on Football Manager. they have to be the 'right' players

As Wilder said last night we didn't turn up, if we had it was 3 points for the taking nothing to do with what the team cost.

Seriously though, how many teams in this division are better than us?
I'm going to be brutal:
Wolves - although we beat them when they turned up they did us comfortably.
Cardiff - we didn't lay a glove on them in the first match.
Villa - as lucky as they looked they've had 4 pts off us.
Fulham - ragged us, first game all season their lads had their shooting boots on and it told.
'Boro - juries out probably edged the first game even though we were robbed.
The rest some have done us but it's when we haven't turned up so I'd say 4/5 teams are better than us for all the cash sloshing around.

However being a fan of football and not just United ;) I have in the past skimmed other forums and one thing a Wednesday fan posted that has struck a chord with me about our last transfer window, it was words to the effect of, 'when we spent money we only bought more of the same that we had already, we didn't improve the squad just increased the size of it and that's why we didn't progress.'

There's a difference between spending money and wasting money.

Just because some teams have wasted money doesn't mean we shouldn't spend any.

We do need to spend more money to improve, players are more expensive 500k is the new 50k. We've done alright signing relatively cheap players in defensive/midfield roles but as always the attacking, goal getting, game winning players cost alot more.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a quality striker in this league who would cost a million or less? Or even an average one?

I'd take a look in the Wolves squad, maybe Villa, teams who are over looking good players for those they've spent big money on.

So would I , some good players there. Defiantly the way we should go in the summer. But again , it will take good money.

We don't need to spend big money. Often that causes problems in itself.

We need to trust our management and understand that things don't always happen straight away. Stop jerking the knee... we've done exceptionally well this season.

For me it also comes back to the argument that our scouting range is unbelievably narrow. There’s little value for quality forwards, especially in the UK. We need to be casting our net further if we aren’t going to spend big - personally I can’t believe they’ve nothing set up scouting-wise in Europe yet - we have such a small pool of players to target comparative to other clubs in this division.

its a very appealing scenario spending more mony
I personally want to buy a brand new Jaguar 4x4, to replace my Hyundai but for one minor drawback detail

Was just going to post the same. If we're not going to have a big budget then having no scouting outside the UK is inexcusable, and small time. Even if we had a decent budget we should have some foreign scouting network in place.

Agree look at the trouble Sunderland are in got division one written all over them financially in deep trouble million pounds players are not always the answer. I for one am quite happy with the job he has done up to now.please don' bankrupt our club by spending ridiculous amounts of money. By panic

Spunk some moneh!!!

Knew as soon as we had another bad run these morons would be out of the woodwork!

Just need the Billy is Past it Brigade and the McCabe Out Lynch mob and we've got the full set!
2 wins out of three games.cant see what' up with that

Wilder and Knill need to realise as ex defenders our problems are up front and they might not be best placed to solve them so find and take some advice from an experienced forward. Money can't solve poor approach play and tactics.
Check out the ManU second goal yesterday. ManU win the ball, midfielder on half way line spots forward pointing to the corner of the box where it played, midfielder passes quickly, forward crosses to other forward quickly without over hitting it, None of the slow crab like tedious overplaying stuff by the touchlines with an over or under hit eventual ball impossible to control first time.

did you see our goals for column last season
name the championships top ten goalscorers , see if you dont find 2 of our players

we will of course buy martial and lukaku in the next window to fix the problem
oh hang on we might be 80m pound light

Don't need Lukaku, most pros from any league could do what he did, receive and cross, just need to play more intelligently and play to strengths and make more effective choices. Goals win games not pretty but slow ineffective over play by the touchlines.

Earlier in the season we had something - call it momentum, team spirit, whatever you like - that made our team better than the sum of its parts.
We seem to have lost that and the players are now operating at their perceived "level".
Our current ownership situation means we can't match the spending of the richest teams in the Championship. But if we can get back the spark we've lost maybe we don't need to? Ask Sunderland, Forest & the Pigs how spunking money on players is working out for them? Reading allegedly spent £7.5m on Aluko and he's scored twice this season.

We don't necessarily need to spend big. This is the ultimate panic post.

What we need to do is get the players we have to play the way that they are instructed to play.

The evidence that i present is that the players we have have shown that they can do it.

What we have to work out is why we are not doing it now. Its certainly not straight forward, but lets not start throwing money about for the sake of it without knowing what we are buying

Nobody knows how good these 4 new players are going to be. It takes months to settle in sometimes. O.P's like these don't help the players one jot.

Just heard someone say on radio sheffield the JTW was a disaster and we have gone backward

Was it pig staton ?

Don’t need to spend big money like your likes of wolves, villa and boro. You can get some quality players for less than £5m, and that is peanuts in this championship. Just look at the likes of Bristol City, Brighton and Huddersfield
