Piss poor, once again. For such a bright start, we were fucking clumsy and error-prone in midfield and typical of any time we have an international break, seriously second best to everything. I wish FIFA/UEFA/whoever would fuck off breaking up club teams momentums in this way. Mind you, with one win in five, we can hardly call it momentum, can we? We have pissed six points away by setting for draws recently and those six points would have us seriously dominant at the top of the table. We fail with a free kick against Stoke, miss a pen against the cunts and play like the cunts against Toytown. Six points.

Today we just couldn't get into any rhythm, and the passing was dogshit. I have no idea what the idea is to lump it long to Sharp, but he aint gonna win fuck all and get on goal that way. I thought our main threat was through the midfield three and down the flanks with the overlapping CB - ttoday it was patchy and non existant for long spells.

Out of ten

Henderson 10/10: Outstanding keeper. Some world-class saves from him today and saved our draw. MotM deserved
Freeman 4.5/10: He's fading fast this bloke. He was struggling with the duty of running the usual channels against their quick winger and his passing was shitola
Basham 8/10: Good performance and unlucky with the deflection and Norwood's touch
Egan 7.5: Pretty solid but at times he was under the cross and not on his man
O'Connell 5.5/10: Thought he had a poor game to be honest. Some of his balls out of defence were wank and he seemed to have a bit of a torrid time against their front men
Stevens 6/10: Again, it was wavy hand time for him. His lunge at the end contributed to their equaliser when all he had to do was jockey, and he doesn't seem to be in those 'areas up the line where he makes the best effect
Norwood 6/10: The game seemed to bypass him and aside from a few decent toe-in challenges, I thought he was not as good as he can be
Fleck 4/10: Very poor. Caught in possession too much or just marked out of the game. Had it not been for a few decent bits like his involvement in the second goal, he'd be out worst player today
Duffy 8/10: Took his goal very, very well. You can see his value and contribution but as soon as he goes off, we are fucking dogshit once again
McGoldrick 5/10: Average marks for an average performance. Should have hammered that chance in. Strikers do that in their sleep
Sharp 3/10: Once again, a low mark not because of his performance, but because he got nowt and ran his fucking socks off. Sublime cross for the second but that is all he had, all game.

Clarke 2/10: Nuff said. Zero improvement on McGoldrick
Johnson - I'm not marking him.

We are repeating the slow deflation of last season and have two pretty vital games coming up. If we want to avoid the playoffs (which might be a good idea) we have got to change this right now and form part of a two team break away pack and drive on. Browny is right - we do need a striker and possibly more craft to get the ball to feet in the area. When we beat Wigan comprehensively (despite playing shit) we did just that, and Billy Sharp did what he does best and scored. We just don't do that and can't do that whilst we can't retain possession, string passes together and dominate the play pattern. And something has to happen to link the midfield to the strikers and both front me to play closer together.

I was impressed with Rotherham' s intensity and pressing. Not just in spells, but for 90mins

Yep. They weren't the best side we've played, but you could see that even 1-2 down, they smelled blood and knew we were pinching ourselves at being ahead. All it took was desire - summat we badly lacked.

Mid table beckoning ever more certainly by the week.

Yeah. It seems - given the latest set of performances - we've peaked and are in decline.

This now depends on how CW and AK respond to this. I believe they will be having some serious words on Monday and we might see Baldock, Coutts and maybe something more compact in the midfield area on Tuesday. Summat's got to change because we cannot afford to drop points against Brentford (who will be scanning the footage from today, big style) and we can't afford anything BUT a win against the Dirties.

This run up to Xmas needs us to be at least four points from the top in second or third place. And (and it won't happen, I know, but here's hoping) zero outward sales in the JTW and two high Champ/PL style players inward, if not bought, then on loan.

I disagree that we can't still have a go at the playoffs, we're not really doing any worse that those around us. It's the fact that we should be absolutely smashing this league.

How many points have we thrown away in a moment of stupidity, that's the difference. We could probably have been 10 points clear but our decision making and concentration are just not there.

I think you vastly overmarked Basham

I know he's not the most technically gifted player, but for me he put in a good performance compared to the rest.

pommpey
Totally agree with you on the rest of the marks it's just that for me, goal aside, I always feel like Basham is a weak link, although today we were poor all over and didn't even deserve a draw.

Agree with much of what you say but I must be missing something with regard to your rating of 3/10 for Billy Sharp.

Please explain how a player who , in your own words " ran his socks off and put in a sublime cross " for what should have been the winning goal deserves such a derisory score .

Makes no sense to me , particularly when others around him who have been much vaunted on here were so conspicuously poor , including McGoldrick , O'Connell , Fleck etc. etc .

Okay. If I run round all game up front and don't touch the ball at all in 90 minutes, you can't give me 10/10. In fact, it would be fair that 1/10 wouldn't be fair if my job was to score goals rather than 'run around'.

Sharp did indeed run his socks off. But all he did also was tussle with their central defenders, gave away a few daft free kicks and at no time was clean on goal to score. He needs >-< much room in the box as we know, and the ball is in the back of the net. His mark is as much reflective on how much success he achieved as a striker as it is the fact that Norwood, Fleck, Stevens and Freeman never found him with either cross or ball to feet, as it is that he, McGoldrick and Duffy never managed much all game as a triangular attacking unit until a few minutes before the end when Fleck played him in to dink the ball to the back stick. In terms of contribution to the outcome, all he did was that, hence the result.
