Personally, I think he should never have been appointed, probably should have been sacked after losing the POF and definitely should have gone at the end of the following season, which was absolutely farcical.

His appointment was a knee jerk reaction to Mogadon Man, who I genuinely feel could have taken us down that year. Appointing him was a mistake, but appointing Bryan 'There's only one United' Robson, was a far far greater error.

I agree completely with your other two statements.

It compounded the error of appointing Robson. Had he been replaced by a better manager than Blackwell, the damage could have been reversed. I’d love to see how much money Blackwell wasted on loan fees and loan wages, wages for players not fit and wages for players we didn’t need or didn’t suit what he was trying to do.

I was being generous and thinking more in terms of averages, but I do remember going up there to watch us and the crowd was no more than 11,000.
