Welcome to the forum Bruce :)

This was mentioned in The Star the other day too: http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foot...tar_to_help_raise_money_for_charity_1_3327733

LONG-serving Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery is poised to take part in a charity fundraising tournament next month.

The industrious player, who has spent 11 years at Bramall Lane, has agreed to play in the Love Life UK National Champions League event on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30.

Former Blades striker Ade Akinbiya and ex-Rovers captain Barry Miller are also pencilled in for a run-out.

Forty five teams of eight players per side, from across the UK will battle it out. The winners will scoop a cash prize for to a charity of their choice. They will also have the opportunity to play against the Love Life UK All Star Team made up of Montgomery, Doncaster Rovers star Mustapha Dumbaya, Akinbiya, Miller, Richard Rufus, Marvin Elliott, John Bostock and Leon McKenzie.

Former Barnsley, Chesterfield, Rotherham United and Blades forward Bruce Dyer has organised the event and said each team will play a minimum of four matches.

Dyer, who became the first £1m teenager when he moved from Watford to Crystal Palace in 1994, told The Star: “I thought it was a good thing to put on for the community and hopefully people from all backgrounds will get involved in it. So often footballers get a lot of bad press so it is great that they are doing something positive.”

The event runs from 11.30pm-5pm at Lucozade Power League on Stadium Way. Entertainment includes a barbecue and indoor bar, bouncy castles and live music.

Entry fee is £62.10 per team. For more information, ring 01226 762677 or email [email protected]
