Before the oh so easily offended brigade on here start moaning the United link for this thread is Blades fan Paul Heaton.

Does anyone remember the name of a British TV film (I reckon it was either a BBC or Channel 4 one) that was shown just before the USA 1994 World Cup, which if I remember correctly was set at the time of the 1970 World Cup, but set in England? I can't really remember too much of the film, other than the main song for the film was Everybody's Talkin' by the Beautiful South (led by United fan Paul Heaton) and though there was bits about the 1970 World Cup it wasn't the main emphasis of the story.

Anyone remember it? I've tried googling it without too much success.

Does anyone feel we should incentivise milkmen return to delivering milk in glass bottles?
The Blades link here is that when I was as a kid, our Liverpool-supporting milkman told me he once found a half-eaten pie on the moor and assumed it was from BDTBL as we had been playing at home that day. :D

Full Monty - Robert Carlise wears a Blades shirt
Trainspotting 2 - they show THAT bloody clip of Best ghosting through us at OT in 1971

There's a kid with a Blades shirt in Batman Begins

Not a football related film but one with football in, "A Kind of Loving". Burnden Park, Bolton v Blades, Hodgy taking a goal kick and a few seconds of play. I was in foreign lands when first saw it and almost got chucked out. Shouted out loud "Hey that's United, it's United". My mates knew what I was on about, the rest probably though what an idiot, that's not Man Utd.

Must have watched Goal about the 66 World Cup endless times brilliant

Barry Hines who wrote Kes went to the same school as Bert. The PE teacher in the film was based on a teacher called Billy Buck who taught Bert maths, he's previously taught PE until he's got a bit too old for it.
He was exactly like the Brian Glover character.

I may be alone in the World on this but I always preferred Hines' first book, the Blinder, about a football prodigy at a Grammar School. I suppose Hines based the lead character on himself, as he'd played for the England Grammar School team.

I used to know Barry Hines' daughter and met him a few times, he was a big Blade, went to all the home games until illness prevented him from attending

Escape to Victory. Where to start on this pile of wank. A Brazilian and Argentinian in a POW camp even though they weren’t in the fucking war (I know they were after as a holiday destination for retired SS). Michael Caine with a beer gut ambling around the pitch looking like a slightly quicker Neill Collins. Breaking the goalkeepers arm in five places so he can’t play instead of just saying he’s got a calf strain. Anton Diffring playing a fucking Nazi once again for the billionth time. The crowd all wearing Adidas samba and Lacoste cagoules in 1944. The players escaping at the end thinking that wearing some onions around their neck and wearing a beret will ensure that the Germans don’t notice they’re wearing football boots in the streets of Paris. Sylvester Stallone doing his Steve Simonsen impression. What a load of fucking toss. Stupid cunts.

The Killing Fields was supposed to be filmed in Cambodia but was actually filmed at the Sty. Apologies to the PC brigade.

I met his brother a few times. He used to lecture at Hallam, for some course or other around film. He was also a frequent visitor to BDTBL.

Loved that book, read it on holiday in Pitlochry, I'll never forget it.

Watch Pinchy the guardian of the message board will here soon to measure whether your post is Blades enough to warrant being here!

Not sure a link to a minor Blade supporting celebrity will be enough for the sanctimonious one, you have been warned.

'Who's Che Adams?' ,my OH asked last night, half way through series 8, episode 6 of Shetland.
Someone had said the sheep ' is called Che..After Che Adams.'
Must be due to Scotland International status.
