The World Cup: A Captain's Tale

I always enjoy watching this film. Not because the acting is good, but because of it being a true story.

Escape to Victory. Where to start on this pile of wank. A Brazilian and Argentinian in a POW camp even though they weren’t in the fucking war (I know they were after as a holiday destination for retired SS). Michael Caine with a beer gut ambling around the pitch looking like a slightly quicker Neill Collins. Breaking the goalkeepers arm in five places so he can’t play instead of just saying he’s got a calf strain. Anton Diffring playing a fucking Nazi once again for the billionth time. The crowd all wearing Adidas samba and Lacoste cagoules in 1944. The players escaping at the end thinking that wearing some onions around their neck and wearing a beret will ensure that the Germans don’t notice they’re wearing football boots in the streets of Paris. Sylvester Stallone doing his Steve Simonsen impression. What a load of fucking toss. Stupid cunts.

Yeah but thats why its a classic in the its so bad spot the mistakes competition its so good category. People play drinking games over the film and pass out at the end. Could be the movie, could be the drink.

Before the oh so easily offended brigade on here start moaning the United link for this thread is Blades fan Paul Heaton.

Does anyone remember the name of a British TV film (I reckon it was either a BBC or Channel 4 one) that was shown just before the USA 1994 World Cup, which if I remember correctly was set at the time of the 1970 World Cup, but set in England? I can't really remember too much of the film, other than the main song for the film was Everybody's Talkin' by the Beautiful South (led by United fan Paul Heaton) and though there was bits about the 1970 World Cup it wasn't the main emphasis of the story.

Anyone remember it? I've tried googling it without too much success.
I remember it. Kisrty McCall sang the theme tune if a remember correctly ( thank you for the days). Finishes with a guy celebrating brasils win over Italy because he had his girlfriend stolen by a eyetie.

Great film

Great film
Shown right at the start of Britpop. A true snapshot in time of excitement and things to come. Not for UTD though, we were rank at that time having just been relegated and had a 3 sided ground. Year I started Uni and started to meet girls who were not from Sheffield. Great times. Does not seem like 30 years ago.
