Flynn mom

He's scored one league goal in about a year.
Is that because he's been injured? To compare you would have to look at appearances against other players.
He was the one who got us back in it against Spurs ( and also got caught for their winner) with some splitting balls.
He links play so well and did that yesterday.
What other players have scored consistently as a matter of interest , from midfield?

Baxter, both on and off the pitch ;)

Yesterday was his first league goal since September 2014. He's played over 40 league games in between.

In answer to your question, Baxter and Jason Holt, both gone, are the only midfielders to score consistently since Flynn last did. All the more reason to focus on players who can score, and sign them rather than resign Flynn and be surprised by another injury plagued season with no end product.

Is it the fact that so many of us have different mom, that the team must have played as a more cohesive unit.
Rather than a singular individual getting the award for a below average team performance, because he made a couple of decent passes/ tackles/ saves etc.
Good post and how refreshing is it to be able to say we were a cohesive unit, hopefully signs of better things to come.

Great point and praise individually for making it a team effort rather than playing for themselves ,if you see what I mean :)

I'd be OK with us keeping Flynn. He's not a world beater but he linked up well with Brayford first time around, his defensive awareness allowed the Beard to overlap successfully and he's proved to be quite versatile.
I doubt he's on huge wages either.

Long made his league debut the last day of 2010-11. That was before Flynn signed. That makes George the longest serving.
Don't know why I find that really surprising but I do ,Long only seems to have been a couple of years and Flynn forever ,Wilson who started them both then or Adams ?

Let's not forget Tel who is co-longest serving along with George.

*** Just checked and Long wins by a nose as Kennedy came on as a sub. So George is our longest serving player by 56 minutes

I'm guessing there's a bit of a large gap between Flynn and the next longest-serving player too. Howard presumably, then... Baxter and Cuvelier?! Is that right?

I suspect so. There's also McFadzean but does he count being on loan and not likely to feature again? Same could be said for De Girolamo having featured in the 2012-13 season before Baxter and Flo.

Time since league début:
1= Long/Kennedy (7/5/11)
3 Flynn (6/8/11)
4 Howard (18/8/12)
5 De Girolamo (16/2/13)
6 McFadzean (26/2/13)
7 Baxter (31/8/13)
8 Cuvelier (7/9/13)
9= Harris/Scougall (1/2/14)

Hope we don't start a Flynnaldo witch hunt now Collins has gone.

He's at least good squad player at this level but given a chance one of our few midfielders that can score a goal.

Wasn't a great fan when he first came. He made good runs down the right flank but always pulled up and went backwards when a defender came to him. Think Clough forced him into taking a man on and it made him a much better player.

When the axe falls I hope he still here and fans get behind him.

The problem for me is I’ve had enough of squad players. Let’s get an absolutely shit hot first 11 that can destroy this division. Let’s make current first teamers like Basham and Adams the “squad players” along with youngsters who might become better like Wallace, Kelly, Whiteman, DCL etc. I would have also kept Dimaio and Khan to fulfil those roles over offering new deals to the likes of McEveley and Flynn. They’ll likely be on about £3-4k per week each. We could probably pay an academy lad £750-1000 to do a similar job freeing up more funds for serious first team big hitters.

If we offer Flynn and McEveley new deals, come August, we’ll be scratching around wondering who we can sign who’s better to play in the first team when they revert to type (McEveley poor and Flynn injued probably). Let’s have room in the budget for better players rather than more of the same.

That being said, well done Flynn on Saturday. A very good performance. If he’d performed like that all season and not kept picking up injuries, I’m sure he would have been a regular in the team.

That's depressing

It's worse when you look at their records:

1= Long: 86(1) appearances (19(0) games/season)
1= Kennedy: 14(5) appearances (3(1) games/season)
3 Flynn 103(41) appearances (23(9) games/season)
4 Howard: 80 appearances (23 games/season)
5 De Girolamo: 0(2) appearances (0(1) games/season)
6 McFadzean: 6(10) appearances (2(3) games/season)
7 Baxter: 75(18) appearances (30(7) games/season)
8 Cuvelier: 9(5) appearances (4(2) games/season)
9= Harris: 49(7) appearances (25(3) games/season)
9= Scougall: 37(14) appearances (19(7) games/season)#

Baxter and Harris are the only two who have started more than half of the league games since they made their first appearance*. We haven't held onto anyone of sufficient quality for far too long now.

*Howard and Flynn's seasons included play off campaigns meaning that their 23 games are fewer than half (just)

Flynn has been injury free since October just not selected - Simple as that. As Collins mentioned in his radio interview some players (possibly Flynn although not just him) have been left out of the squad and replaced by new recruits like Woolford as an example. Which was/is the Managers decision. Flynn's problem is his flexibility, being able to cover numerous positions, although he's never managed a run of games to settle into whatever roll he's been given, probably because the players and formation have constantly changed all season. I would add that good game or bad game he always gives 100% for the team (not a selfish player).

Flynn was excellent when the Beard first came.they linked superbly and his defensive skills allowed JB to bomb forward without care. You don't get pace and the beating of a man with Flynny but you get trickery and hard work. He's an honest pro and has been said when fit is a useful player to have in various positions. Some people just can't give credit when it's due regardless of whether they like a player or not ( not a personal dig at you HG)
I'd pick Flynnaldo every game, he tries 100% and is always looking to go forward, good enough for me

Flynn’s best performances came during the season run in in 2014. Then when he got his new deal, he reverted to type the following season. Then he got injured. Then he came back and played some good games at right back. Then he got injured. Then he came back for a couple of games. Then he got injured. Then he missed the start of this season through injury and when he has played has been pretty average. Now it’s contract renewal time, bingo, he picks up again. We haven’t had nearly the required return over the last two years to warrant another deal.

I like Flynn as a player - always have. But if we're relying on him to be a mainstay in a promotion team then we're not serious about promotion.

I like Flynn too but it's safe to say he hasn't made a shirt his own. He reminds me of Steve Charles actually.

When SC moved on no-one actually noticed. Says it all really.
