Fleck

Thought Fleck did well today. A disciplined showing and kept things simple. Hopefully he'll take some confidence from his performance today and he can go up a few levels.

Agreed. Best game he’s had for quite some time, defensively anyhow. He had that lanky one on toast the whole game.

It’s not easy to tell, because Swansea were so lethargic and one paced, but I thought he looked fitter and sharper in his movement and decision-making today, as well.

Really hope he can put a decent run of form together now. He’s been such a star for us in the past, and MIA for far too long. It’d be great to see him properly influential again, across the run in.

“His little head like a clenched fist”. 😂

He's had a complete fall from grace. We need to stop playing him before we all turn against him. He's still got enough credit in the bank to be remembered as one of our best ever midfielders but this can't go on.

He won't run with the ball. He won't run without it. He won't pass forwards. He slows everything down to a standstill. Barely tackles. Doesn't even look bothered anymore, like football is an inconvenience. He's basically Dean Hammond now, never thought I'd say that about our Flecky.

You know he has lost all quick alertness, quick movement and quick thinking, because when a ball is played into his feet and a opposition player is nearby he more often than not just ends up shielding the ball with his body which ends up in receiving or giving away a free kick. If he somehow manages to get his head up and doesn’t shield it but is quickly closed down he has no problem passing the hot potato and putting a team mate in trouble who was in no position to receive a ball. Exact same could be said of Norwood tbh, both finished against the better sides.

I am absolutely baffled how the fuckity fuck does Fleck after having another mare of a pre season where he looks totally unfit/out of sorts, keep getting picked. Genuinely I do not know. Osborn isn't the best but fuck me is is currently better than Fleck who looked like his race was run a year ago. What does he have over our management teams to keep getting picked? Why didn't we go with Arblaster Osborn tonight as he's an experienced head and then brought Arblaster on for him after 60? Instead we keep with Fleck who unbelievably was piss poor again. Who'd have thunk it.

Fleck isn't the reason we lost tonight but the continual picking of him year after year is now fucking bizarre. I've no doubt the injured Man City lad will replace him but what was that performance and team selection? Both awful from start to finish.

One of the main reason we stunk out the PL that second season was Fleck (age/diet) and Lundstram (couldn't give a fuck) dropped off physically and we got bum raped in midfield every week. I had flashbacks to that season tonight. Fit, lithe, athletic 6ft'ers ghosting past our midfield like Jimmy Saville in a Women's Hospital.

Amazing he's still starting for us two years later....

Not many sides like that in the Championship though, to be fair. Our midfield dominated most teams last season and will again this year. The problem is if we want to go up we need more against the big sides.

Sander Berge should be an option against that type of team, but...

Sander is 100% trying not to get injured.

I agree with a lot of you post there Ned, but ‘Fleck being remembered as one of our best ever midfielders’ is stretching it a bit mate.

It was such a frustratingly wank goal to lose to as well.

It was a short corner that never should have been taken.

Pretty obvious that to cut the ball across from the left is going to favour a right footer not a left footer to start with.

Then despite this, Fleck totally screws up the contact, not even getting it off the floor.

Then defensively so naive, first one defender getting his leg tangled when he could have possible intercepted the ball and finally not one player committing a tactical foul on the scorer when they broke away.

I don't mind losing to a better side, which they marginally were, though we also could have scored through N'Diaye, but to gift a full three points in a head to head to a potential rival is gaulling in the extreme.

My concern with Hecky is not his coaching or his team selection overall or his managerial ability. It is whether he will be prepared to push the older players to one side soon enough. With the additions we made in the summer and apparently another Man City lad incoming, I don't see how Osborn gets into the matchday squad. He's simply not outstanding enough at anything. As has been mentioned above players should be picked on merit. Fleck is a notorious slow started anyway. He was poor in preseason too. So why is he in the team? Coulibaly scored the other day in a friendly against the Millers. He's on an upward trend. This seemed an ideal game to add athleticism to that midfield.

I wonder if our intrepid reporters of SUFC ever put these Qs to Hecky re why do certain players who have been consistently slow starters each season continue to be picked / still here? Probably not as they will have been burnt from when some hack asked Wilder why Lundwank was continually picked and was given the cold shoulder after that by an openly hostile Wilder. First time I started to lose respect for CW and thought he was starting to slide from his pedestal.

I was angry last night with his performance and his performances over the last couple of years.

His career with us is coming to really sad end. He has gone from being a player we can't do without to a player we can't wait to see go. :(

I don't understand how both Fleck and Stevens are still here. They should be transfer listed, taking a nominal fee just to get them off the books and we can rebuild around them even if that means playing youth.

But how do we shift him ? He's on good money here , which no other club will match , so he'll wind down his contract.
Hecky has to be brave enough to drop him , but he picks the tubby flecker to start games !

Offer then up for loan or nominal fee. If he's desperate last minute maybe Wilder comes for Jimmy!

Maybe loan him to a League 1 club? that said he has to want to go.
