Nice to see john today and jimmy left at home

Tells something when decent/normal game is considered as "good game" for him

Nice one John.

The decision to drag you when Norwood was giving the ball away alarmingly was baffling.

Baffling.

UTB.

He was steady, didn’t do anything great and didn’t do anything bad. Better than last week but still needs to improve

Fleck wasn't terrible last season. In the last 4 or 5 games, he contributed a fair bit in particular. Our form under Hecky was 3rd best in the division, with Norwood and Fleck in midfield, despite all the injuries. But he's lost that drive and bravery and ability to take the ball in tight spaces which made him stand out. If I take the strongest XI at the end of last season, Fleck.and LWB would have been the first to be upgraded. If we had done that, I think Fleck would have been one of the best understudies/squad players in the division and just maybe it would have pushed him to another level, to regain his place. Today, like at lot of last season, he was a decent busy player, who used his experience to get into good positions, but whose impact and energy ebbed and faded.

Better today but still not got enough to do it for the 90. However that said I’d rather he give us everything first 45 and then get subbed than see out the 90 and play badly.
The beauty of 5 subs

They’re different players but Fleck and Berge to me are quite similar in that they can often appear totally lackadaisical in possession but then sometimes flick a switch, effectively realise what good players they are, and suddenly turn it on and skip past a few challenges and set something up. In the Premier League and on our way up Fleck seemed to be able to regularly hit the switch but he’s become less and less able to. Berge has been able to bring it more of late. But both are so inconsistent with it and it’s often either brilliant or shit. And because we know what they’re capable of they can be such frustrating players. Wilder was right with the John and Jimmy Fleck. With Berge it’s Sander and Simon.
Please don't try and compare Fleck and Berge again.
