“John, you’re on £15k a week, how about we put it up to £20k? Although there’s no guarantee in which league we’ll be in next season”

“West Ham have offered me £50k a week and my boot manufacturers will give me another £10k a week straight off the bat for playing in the prem. Plus it’s London, plus it’s a huuuuuuge stadium and they’ll be in the prem next year and the year after and the year after. They’ve also got club approved fluffers.”
"Yes John, but it's West Ham!"
"I see your point Gaffer, fuck west ham!".

Didn't CW say,re interest in Clarke, that he'll always let a player know if a bid comes in for them, and discuss the options?
He did, that's why he took Clarke to one side and said, "see ya Leon".

Dont want Fleck to leave, would have certainly been panic stations if we didnt have Norwood though!

Can remember an article where Fleck claimed that money wasnt everything and he just wanted to play football.. hope this mindset still applies!

Only fifty? Wet behind the ears.
Possibly explains your grouchy grumpy way of forwarding your arguments with these young whippersnappers on here. Age can bring wisdom but in the words of Mahatma Ghandi “it is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err”

In other words it is the height of self delusion to believe you are always right just because of your age.

...in exchange for improved performances?
Maybe he's offering to go on reduced terms until he starts playing to the level of his last contract?

Maybe he can have written in his new contract that it's not the work of the Devil to trouble the score sheet every now and again.

Think he can be a capable player but he's under-performing and it's a poor show to be pushing for a new deal when you've been under par. If Wilder announces it's to reward his improved performances I'll be interested to see if he can keep a straight face.

It is, but youngsters never appreciate the value of experience until they get it.

Tell them to double that offer and it might be worth a conversation.

I wouldn’t loan him for the remainder of the season for £4m.

What’s he got left, 3.5 years? Where have the days of “you’ve got an improved contract and you’re not going anywhere in late fucking January” gone?

Fleck is a vital part of the team, I just don’t think he gets enough of the ball in key areas because of the way we (specifically Norwood) play now. The system is working, so we shouldn’t change it, but we really do need to keep him.

It’s our best shot at promotion for years and who knows how long it’ll be before it comes again. Even our board can see that.

Can’t they....?

Capital letters don’t count double I’m afraid.

Dowell. Coutts. There is plenty of time for recruitment. On Jim White Day some clubs, sensibly or not, will be signing players for whom they have enquired the first time that very day.

Dowell could be an option i suppose - would allow us to keep Duffy involved and keep his level of control on the pitch. Would he do the dirty work of fleck though? And I Still feel coutts is just to similar to Norwood for it to work as well.

There is time but I still feel we be weakening ourselves at a crucial time - and I am no lt opposed to rewarding fleck when there is interest in him. The way I see it it’s one way to keep the squad together when we aren’t able to just spunk cash on a replacement of equal ability

Shock horror! A business’s top performer goes a bit off the boil because he feels undervalued after chatting with some of his peers, so he considers moving on. He’s not doing a bad job, just not quite what those around him know he’s capable of, and he still better than most...most of the time. But his boss gets wind of it and so he offers him a better package, telling him to go prove that he’s worth it. The guy accepts, he ups his game and everybody is happy again.

Footballers eh? Things like this never happen in the real world do they?

Agreed. His price is the number on the back of his shirt.

Even better that he managed to make West Ham bid for him even if they don’t want him!
Peschisolido has said on Twitter that there is no interest and it's paper talk. Have you heard directly from the club that a bid has been made and rejected?

Even better that he managed to make West Ham bid for him even if they don’t want him!

Supposed transfer bids often don’t exist and are simply fabricated by clubs who bizarrely think that making up a story about an offer that they’ve never made and axiomatically doomed to fail, will fool gullible fans into an entirely false impression of ambition.

Our own club has done this many, many times and only the very perceptive few ever see through it. Connor Coady, although the offer was confirmed by that shameless liar Tufty, was one such occasion.

I know all this, because I’ve read it on here.

"Yes John, but it's West Ham!"
"I see your point Gaffer, fuck west ham!".

“John? Hello, this is Manuel Luis Pellegrini Ripamonti here. Yes, you can call me ‘La Maquinaria’ if you want, all my close friends do. Do you know all those dirty thoughts you have when your mind wanders when you’re waiting for Lunny to control a football and pass it to you? I can make them all come true. Yes, even that one involving a swimming pool full of export strength Bucky wine. I will furnish you with as much money as you can dream of, i will allow you to provide for future generations of the Fleck family that are currently no more than twinkles in your children’s eyes and I’ll also allow you to come on for the last 10 minutes in Carabao Cup games when we’re 3 up. Do we have a deal?”

Diminutive Scottish midfield genius? Talk to me. Who much are we prepared to pay? I wanna know a bit more about the player before we get into that! Come on, you gotta seduce me! You don't just jump into bed with Terry Tibbs and West Ham! You take Terry Tibbs out for lunch, you wine and dine him, you give him an oil massage, and then he gives you £4m. If you're lucky. Talk to me.......

Any criticism of Fleck needs to be more balanced.
He hasn’t been playing poorly, he just puts in safe 7 out of 10 performances week in week out
But where have those 9 out of 10 performances gone? Maybe it’s the system?

He’s playing OK but it’s as though he’s thinking he has other good players around him who can create chances and score goals
So maybe he feels that he no longer has as much responsibility or urgency to make things happen or score goals.

It’s as though complacency has set in, put in decent performances, don’t make mistakes and jobs a good’un.
In a mid table Championship team consistent 7 out of 10 performances would be sufficient
But I suspect Wilder would be hoping for more for players chasing promotion.

This. The notion that Norwood doesn’t pass to him enough for him to play well is bobbins.

Interesting development. He’s got a lot of time on his contract but not sure his form this year warrants him being one of our top earners.

Saw today that Ben Osborn could be available from Forest. He’d be a decent replacement if Fleck was to go.

The slight issue with Fleck this season is possibly application, hunger and attitude (or maybe he’s reached his level).
In the league 1 season he had more responsibility and more of the ball in advanced areas.
He could afford to take risks because if he gave away the ball we were rarely punished.
He could afford to take shots from distance because we constantly created chances.
He has always been a lower league player with potential, so he was more hungry to achieve something in his career.

This season he doesn’t have the same responsibility.
Norwood sometimes by passes him because he’s excellent at the long pass out to the wing backs.
Also if Fleck makes a mistake the standard is higher so we can be punished.
This means Fleck is more cautious, plays a nice safe/ tidy game focussing on keeping possession.

He still plays well enough most matches but he no longer comes anywhere near a man of the match performance where he drives a game and stands out. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh but don’t think he’s done quite enough to deserve a pay rise.
..........anyway thought he’d just signed a contract giving him a big pay rise?
Norqood is "sometimes" excellent at the long pass. At other times he is carelessly shite.

A fundamental point, well made.

Obviously Wilder won't be drawing up the contract or directly negotiating with the player (agent), but any 'discussions' of a new contract would likely start with the manager, or at least include him.

Meeting with CW later today to discuss improved contract

Load of Sunjihi bollox. At best 50/50 guess work hoping to credit a poor track record of knowing owt. CW don't talk wages, CW don't take well to threats, filthy ham not interested.
