Fleck

Well if this actually happens I will be royally fucked off. £4m is peanuts in this market, and while Fleck hasn’t quite hit the heights of last season he is still in the top echelons of championship midfielders.

Even if he goes to West Ham, realistically how often is he even going to play? Ahead of him I already see the following players who can play a variation on CM...

Arnautović
Anderson
Obiang
Noble
Snodgrass
Lanzini
Nasri
Rice
Wilshere (when fit and not banned for cocaine)

I've seen it mentioned one or two places about our interest over recent weeks.

Having seen WV play a few times my shoulders would droop massively if this is what happens if Fleck goes.

The Millers I know think very highly of him and are convinced he's destined to go all the way ....

Exactly, but that isn't the point.

Last I looked he wasn't on the transfer list. Therefore we dictate what is value is TO US.

If they don't meet that valuation, then pissoff :)
As a club yeah we can put any valuation we like on a player, but unfortunately there's agents and the players themselves who generally hold the cards. If Fleck wants out it more than likely will happen whatever silly valuation we put on him.

If he goes I fully expect to us go for Daniel Johnson. Left footed - tick. Out of contract in summer - tick. Would much rather keep Fleck though.

dont want us to sell him , but prices being quoted are fairy tale figures
We were allegedly quoting in excess of 8m for O’Connell. I very much doubt we regard him as twice the player that Fleck is. Yes, some of the figures quoted are far fetched but to think he’s worth only 4m (or less) in today’s inflated market is vastly underselling him. There used to be a bargain to be had at Sheffield United. Now with CW in charge things have changed

I love the bloke , hes a cult hero , but we have to be realistic , he got us out of league one
bounce killed
but we struggle v top 6 sides , he doesnt destroy them
if we did hed be worth 6 to 8 m
You're on another planet. Familiarize yourself with the real world before taking part in this debate.

I think he's getting Fleck confused with 'bounce killer' Duffy. The Duffy whose 6 goals (compared to Fleck's 4) helped us out of League One.

Of course, but it shouldn't be for 4m.

You're more or less giving carte blanche for any top side to unsettle a player by claiming interest, then lowballing the fuck out of the contracted club.

Doesn't seem to happen to anyone else.

Decent shout but if he does go then I could see Wilder going to the PL for a loan, because Wilder would want someone as good if not better and we'd only be able to afford that on loan. Someone like Kevin McDonald or Andy King.

CW has already stated that no first teamer is going anywhere unless silly money is offered to us. £4m isn't silly money. Fleck isn't going anywhere this window. Chill.

My friend the Weasel is correct; Lord Wilder did say this.

Its alright saying chill but Sky Sports is one of the most reliable sports news outlets and I would hope to see that we'd already turned it down and it doesn't. Maybe you're right but its certainly worrying.

Exactly the type of replacement we need if Fleck goes. Big problem is he signed a two year contract in the Summer. PNE won't be entertaining offers of £4 million for him either.

If there is any substance in this rumour, which I doubt, then I`m sure it would be part of CW`s wheeler dealing. However, to get another player to fulfil that role at this time of the season is a big ask, because it does take time to integrate into our style of play. Dowell may partly cover it but he hasn`t the experience, especially when it comes to the defensive part, to be the answer to replacing Fleck for the rest of the season.

He is absolutely central to the way we play. Even if we signed someone better, it would take too long for them to get used to it.

If we are to have any chance of going up, we have to keep him. Thank God they’ve rejected the bid but West Ham might be back.

I know for fact that United have been watching Will Vaulks at Rotherham ....

Not at all ITK however about whether this would be the replacement lined up in the event of Fleck going

For balance, we need a left footer. Not certain, but isn't Vaulks a right footer?

Also and in my humble opinion, whilst Vaulks looks ok (I've seen him numerous times) he's no Fleck

Daniel Johnson signed a new contract. Could get him for less than £4m though.

If we do sell Fleck for a less pitiful amount then some players to consider as replacements* are...

John Swift
Liam Kelly
Romaine Sawyers
Massimo Luongo
Alan Browne
Daniel Johnson
Ben Osborn (unrealistic)
Kevin McDonald (loan)
Andy King (loan)

*I know we don't replace assets properly but I'm talking in ideal world

Get ready for this then. I had a feeling he might have been tapped up but didn’t want to start posting unfounded fears on here. I suspect this is an opening offer and we’ll do a deal at between £6-8m plus add ons. Unless we can persuade him to stay until the end of the season but at his age it may be difficult.

I’m hoping we’ve got someone lined up.

Browne, Swift and Kelly are realistic targets along with the lad from Rotherham.

Johnson may cost us a bit now as his new deal takes him to 2021. I think we would struggle to land the rest.
