Fleck - The end

We don’t invest in positions in this club.

In our 2 seasons in the PL we didn’t buy a single centre half.

We eventually got a reserve right back in

Baring Berge didn’t spend anything on central midfielders.

Wilder gave Fleck and Norwood big contracts and offered Lundstram a similarly good deal. I'm not blaming him as they were playing excellent when they got their deals but he was obviously happy with that area of the pitch.

Is it a coincidence that both have gone rapidly downhill since getting those new contracts ?

I don’t know , but of the two , I am most disappointed with Fleck . Norwood is clearly nowhere near the player he was for whatever reason , but at least he appears to give a shit and doesn’t hide .

The same can’t be said for Fleck and this has been going on for over a year and reached the stage where he has almost become Lundstram Mk. 2 . This is a great shame since , at his best , he was one of our most influential players but we should not make the same mistake we did with the latter and bin him off asap .

It’s ogre for him. He’s been my favourite player for going on 5 years now. A really sad day, I’ll still remember him for his early seasons when he goes.

Wonder if there are any replacements lined up, no room for sentimentality now.

All those figures are greatly exaggerated. But I suppose this is what forums are for.
It's easy to google Osborn's cost as between 3-3.5m given Forest turned down 3m.

Regarding the other two some reports were as much as 15m but then this came out:

According to the Star, the Blades are said to have paid less than £10m to land the Derby pair. Indeed, it is suggested that the deal could come in at around £7-8m, meaning Chris Wilder may have pulled off a masterstroke.

So he's not far off on those values. If anything he could even be too low.

The downward trajectory has been startling. Remember him bossing Burnley and Villa the season before last? Sadly I think we'll never see a performance like that ever again. Weak, touch looks off, doesn't want to win a tackle and hides for the majority of the game. As others have said you'd maybe get away with that a couple of times a season but not every match where the other 2 mids are doing exactly the same. Needs dropping asap but for who? Osborne is very limited and the trust doesn't seem to be there with the younger lads. The sooner we get some new blood in midfield the sooner we'll turn losses into draws and draw into wins.

Fleck has never been the player to pull us out of a hole or a player who drags us into a game. Like a few of our players his performances echo that of the overall team. Stevens is another big one like that. I believe fleck as part of a better more rounded midfield will again look good. There is obviously an argument that this is not good enough but it has been the way since the beginning. Norwood style means he looks better when we are on the front foot and we rarely have been for over a year. Both imo can regain form as part of a overall improvement just probably not together but either would be good as options as part of a winning team.

A busted flush, time to invest in his position and I doubt he’d be a better option off the bench than Osborn who at least brings energy.

Regardless of form and how motivated he is, when he’s not playing in a team with a certain rhythm and pattern of play that suits his style, his mediocrity shines through.

There is the argument that he always starts seasons slowly, but let’s be right he’s been horrific for going on 18 months.

I still think there could be some use for Norwood as a squad player, but Fleck looks finished to me. Midfield needs a complete rebuild
He,along with Norwood, Robinson and Stevens are stealing a wage.

He must have a fitness issue or injury, it’s been too long since he had a good game.

One criticism is he’s painfully one footed, he turned in circle last night to keep the ball on his left which took an age then lost the ball.

We’re in a right mess, unbalanced, out of form and desperate for some fresh players.

Wake up Prince, sort this and quickly

Agree with that, Fleck hasn’t been the same since he got that new contract.
He’s gone rapidly downhill, he used to get forward be forward thinking, chip in with a few goals, now just goes through games anonymous.

He’s been coasting for a season and a half him, Lunmy and Norwood have been far too comfy there‘s been no rotation because a[art from Berge there was nobody to rotate in.

yeah think both norwood and fleck are done here freeman has to come in against udders and with rammy on his way no excuses for not bringing a keeper 2 midfielders and a winger in before the end of august

It's hard to believe now, but go back 3 years how many would have swapped Fleck for Mcginn (Villa) ? Injuries, a loss of form, and like the rest of the team, not just a loss of confidence but fight and belief, with no sign it's close to being sparked back
Also worth considering the loss of JOC and Enda's loss of form, huge difference down the left hand side.

Always rated McGinn to be fair and it would have been a tough decision for me personally. But take your point ,they are miles apart now.

Yeh ,can’t argue with that.He is really spoiling his legacy at the club in my opinion.Sad.
I know he has been played on the right while Slav experiments on shapes/formations, and it's not a position he is used to, but its not like he (or anyone else to be fair) has put in a performance in their usual role, that demands they stay in that role. Maybe that's part of the fear or issue, playing out of position, having a poor game and getting dropped
