Yeah but the thing is... we've got to play everyone at some time.

The following places are what I'd consider to be quite far away... so you'd want them at the weekend.

Blackpool
Bristol
Cardiff
Crystal Palace
Ipswich
Middlesbrough
Newcastle
Peterborough
Plymouth
QPR
Reading
Swansea
Watford

Apart from Blackpool and Cardiff... and Newcastle over the Easter weekend... these are all weekend fixtures.

Barnsley and Wednesday matches really need to be weekend ones so I can understand the difficulty in finding enough weekends.

Away first and last game is hardly a hardship... and neither is the short run down to Leicester on Boxing Day. Let's face it Keenz... it's hardly you driving to them is it? :D

No it isnt me driving, but its still costs money to long hauls weekend after the other, and for coach/car money. over east and christmas being away is crap too as some people can only get home at the holidays such as students and the like. We have to play them all, but why not give us some home matches when more people can go and get us some money in?

I was going to make the point that surely they can't take us into consideration for games like the Cardiff one. . . so I looked at Plymouth's fixtures and all there Tuesday games away are against the likes of Swansea and Bristol City. But then again I suppose the majority of games for them are far so they are an exception

Wednesday at home on my dad's birthday.

Perfect birthday present for him :)

Because there are 24 teams in the league who all want the same things with regards to matches and it has to be accommodated as best it can.

Not all teams can be at home on the same day :) Be a bit pointless that wouldn't it?

If the fixture man took into consideration the cash flow of every one of the thousands of people who travel to matches at all points throughout the season... we'd never end up with a fixture list :)

If your problem is playing Bristol and Plymouth on consecutive weekends, there's nothing to stop you saving up for that before the actual week itself. It all evens out over the season if you were planning on going to all the matches anyway. Pre-Christmas trips are great... I love them. Going to QPR the week before Christmas isn't any more expensive than going at any other time.

Plan ahead with your finances! It's like all these people who are surprised when season ticket renewals come around.

why are we away again on opening day last day and boxing day???? But the shower of pig shite are at home for all these!!!!!!!! At least we play them at home first this season...

Newcastle easter monday, how delightful, see you all there, :D

nonononono linz...
my gripe is that the pigs get 1st game, last game, week before christmas, first game of new year, and easter monday ALL at home.

We have the week before the new year.

And the other part is on a whole of putting us at cardiff on a tuesday and ipswitch at us on a tuesday, they would be better on saturdays and playing more local games midweek.

One of us has to... I don't think it's a massive conspiracy that it isn't us?

But the point I was making was that there aren't as many local fixtures as there are far away ones... plus games like Pigs and Barnsley, our most local of fixtures, really need to be at weekends for logistical purposes... meaning that whether we like it or not, there are more faraway fixtures than there are weekends to accommodate them.

When you are trying to put a fixture list together for 92 football clubs covering four leagues, three (or four?) domestic cup competitions, 2 European competitions and leave enough gaps for internationals... it's more difficult than just saying "we don't like Sheffield United, let's send them to Cardiff on a Tuesday night".

It's a massive advantage having your last match at home if you need the points (forget Wigan). It just seems to me that the vast majority of our last matches are away (forget Wigan). I would argue that this isn't fair and more of our last matches should be at home (forget Wigan).

Ah, if only I could forget Wigan. And I wasn't even there. :(

One of us has to, but why not even it up and give us more than just 1 of the "bigger dates"?

doncaster, forest, derby, preston would be better than cardiff on a tuesday. its same for all teams, daft away games miles away midweek, make football affordable by not putting daft game away on tuesday nights

Fixtures............ what a load of bollox .......... mind yer if we win em all who cares !

I agree with you on the fixtures Keenz,

But how will changing the days of games make them more affordable?

if cardiff was on a saturday, more people would more likely to go IMO as they dont have to miss work and miss getting paid.

Has nothing to do with affordability then ;)

In fact, by having it like this they would be SAVING people money, using your thought process....

But you aren't giving the club any money in this instance... you're giving it to Cardiff.

So SUFC aren't likely to be right bothered :)

What would be best for peoples' pockets would be making it impossible to get to matches so you save your money!

Anyway... the reason the fixtures are how they are is apparently because we requested to be away from home on 12th September because of racing at Donny. If United had a problem with any of the fixtures, they had chance to raise it before they were published. They didn't so they must be satisfied with them.

TBH i think thats a poor excuse.... we wont loose all that many to the races... i think we would loose more from students returning home at Christmas and us playing away.

Clubs make requests to the fixture bloke all the time and apparently they are able to meet atleast 80% of those requests. Must be a hard job when you consider how many Clubs will be making requests.
