So...

Looking at this list, it seems this is our squad for next season. I've put players Red who may depart. Players in green who may sign (based on rumours) and removed the ones who will be off altogether (K.Feeman, Clarke, Duffy etc.). I haven't included youth players who haven't featured.

Foderingham/Moore/Eastwood/Verrips

Baldock - Basham/Rodwell - Egan/Jagielka - O'Connell/Robinson/Bryan - Stevens

Lundstram/Swift - Berge/Norwood - Fleck/Osborn/Freeman

McBurnie/McGoldrick/Sharp/Zivkovic/Mousset/
Robinson

Straight away you can see we need cover for both Wing Backs. Will Jagielka give us another season? Will Rodwell get a short deal? If the answer is no to both - we need 2x CBs.

Rumours surrounding Lundstram suggest he may be off and Swift is a replacement NOT competition.

L.Freeman, Robinson and Mousset are based on nothing more than rumours on here. But i'd be surprised if we don't sell Robinson.

Big. Summer. Ahead!

Jags has another season in him, but not as a backup for 2 players. He needs to be co-backup.

Two or three on the spin where he was starting and I'd worry if he could take it. Any more than that I think we'd be in trouble.

Need either one CB who can play central and RB, or a CB and a specialist ball playing RB, and Jags. Not just Jags.

I think there’s some room for dual-cover – so Osborn continuing to do that at LWB and LCM. Similarly if we suddenly decide to keep Jagielka I’d like us to sign someone that can cover RCB and RWB (I thought this was where our thinking was looking at Retsos), rather than have him partially covering RCB. It’s one way of helping improve our back-up players if they are more likely to be involved through covering more than one position.

But yes, we have a lot to do in a short space of time...

Anyone know whether Freeman and Jags are actually leaving? Wilder was keen to mention Clarke so you'd think he'd say something about at least Freeman.

Bash signing leaves only Lundstram, of the regularly used squad who's deal is running out in 1 year (plus Hendo of course). There is a core squad of 16 before the transfer shenanigans start.

It really depends on our recruitment I think. If we can’t find better options, and don’t want to leave ourselves short, there are worse things we can do than just give Jags and Freeman another year.

Ball_Sup (Phil), I remember rave reviews of Boyes, Is he left or right sided? and how would you compare him to Norrigton-Davies and other players in the academy?
I'm a simple bloke. I like Boyes because he puts a smile on my face. Plays his football with complete abandon & freedom. Committed & enthusiastic. As likely to pop up in the inside right channel as conventional left back. Binnion used to just let him go & shout encouragement. Boyesey. Boyesey. Boyesey. I always say players at Academy Level are flexible & that is correctly encouraged. Most Blades saw Ben Whiteman in cameo first team games as a midfielder. But, he'd played a lot of his Academy football as a centre back. Right. Boyes is a LEFT wing back. Rhys Norrington-Davies was a stand out. Deserved his chance at League football. I "famously" do NOT make predictions about whether players will make it as Pros. But, yes, at this stage, I'll happily say Boyes is every bit as good as Rhys was. Look he doesn't stick out like Diego, Maguire, Brooks and DCL did. But, he's right up there as a player in the current Academy crop.

Thanks for the reply always appreciate the insight. 👍

What about the others, give us a quick out of 10 mark for their chances?
Don’t sit on the fence, we won’t hold you to it😉

I'd love to be able to help. I'm not saying I WON'T comment on players chances of making it. I'm saying I CAN'T. I'd have to go to Academy games with a different, less enjoyable, head on. I just don't concentrate like that. Always checking for local breweries, looking for what other fans are saying & doing, trying to judge the most fluent swearer (Marcus Dewhurst, hands down). Where's the joy in "wondering" about their future? I'm wired differently. Sorry.

Ok, what’s your top 5 favourite beers?

Abbeydale Brewery, Voyager IPA series, on Cask, any hop combination
The Kernel, India Pale Ale, Moutere HBC431
The Answer, Contact High
Burnt Mill Brewery, Tidal Fog
DEYA Brewing Co, Steady Rolling Man

but, obviously, there's an App for that

That's made my day, Ball_Sup (Phil) limiting himself to just 5 ales, never thought I'd ever see it. 😃

I prefer the blog thing. I've had plenty of decent beer from the recommendations on there.
The problem with the Blog is that it's been so successful that Breweries & Pubs look at SUFC/U23/U18 away fixtures & constantly email me - come to us, free beer all afts, we'll send a limo to the station, etc - I'll be honest, I wouldn't trust the Blog any more. It's integrity has been compromised. It's just become "a brand" now.

Influencer! The shame

Be interesting to see what will happen with Slater, Mallon and Parkhouse as their at ages they need to be playing competitive football.

Crikey, there's a few who we're stuck with for a little while yet, some of which are aging and we'll hardly have offers coming out of our ears for.

Yep 2.5 yrs to go for some aging, legs gone or never played players there. Im guessing they all have relegation clauses in their contracts but giving Norwood that length of contract when both Fulham
and Brighton had binned him 2 -3 yrs ago was in hindsight crazy...but hindsight is a wonderful thing !

That's what I thought! I really don't want to criticise any of the team that got promoted from the Championship, but we do have a few of the older players that still have 2.5 years left due to recent contract extensions. Saying that, assuming we go down Norwood and Fleck may well doscover their mojo and could be big assets in the Championship. Sharp and McGoldrick likewise for next season and then their contract runs out. We'd need another midfielder or two for competition in there anyway, although less so if Berge stays.
