First team contracts - June 2020

Would like to see Basham's contract sorting out next, extend out to 2023. He's been a revelation for us and has earned a good pay day.

Likewise, Egan & Baldock could do with extensions out to 2023.
I would think Egan may be the trickier of these two to tie down as his market value has increased significantly this year.

It would be nice to see Lundstram buy into the project too. Seems everyone else is being offered reasonable terms & signing up, so one would have to assume he's asking for something disproportionate to his performances and / or the rest of the squad.

Lunny needs to buy into the spirit of what CW was talking about in the interview higher up. Everybody has to fight for a place, no matter who they are. He is no different. Hope he sees that and signs and keeps the right mentality.

If he’s not bought into our philosophy by now then he needs leave. No issue with him wanting the best deal for himself but he’s had our offer, if it’s not good enough then he should look elsewhere.

I'm not sure what it is, but he seems to have had the face on a bit. Obviously cw isn't going to wear that. Either you're fully in, or you're out. Hopefully it's just negogiation stuff and he can be a great part of the squad.

Honestly, I wouldn’t lose any sleep if he left. He had a decent start to the season, and was hyped on the back of his FL mid-positioning. Personally I think he fell away massively before Berge joined and hasn’t done a lot since that makes me think he should be a starter. Given his contract position I wouldn’t start him unless injuries forced my hand.

Any chance you can post the latest update as per op.

By my reckoning, big issues left outstanding are extensions for Bash and Lunny if possible. A big challenge to replace the goalkeeper and 5 or 6 additions to strengthen the squad/team as numerous squad players leave.

The squad players I'd expect to leave are Jags, K Freeman, Clarke, Besic, Rodwell and Morrison. Maybe not all will leave and maybe Retsos or Ziv will replacea couple of those.

Either way another busy transfer window ahead

Egan has two years left so you'd expect this to be early discussions.

Bash is next summer but that might be blades being cautious. He keeps surprising most fans with his ability to step up, perhaps he's supprised CWAK and they are only just getting around to discussing his next deal

Nah, I don't think so.

I think this is more general upkeep, keeping the right things coming out of the club ahead of a transfer window.

We could be an attractive prospect for players who'd like the play in the Premier League and maybe Europe if we finish well, this tells them and their agents we won't be bent over, any hurry up it gives to existing players signing new deals is just a bonus.

I still think it is more of a warning to Lunny than anyone else.

Slater it seems must have agreed an extension somewhere along the way. There had been no definitive info on RND’s contract length, but good to also see him retained.

Of the released players, probably the only one I thought we might keep on as a squad player is Rodwell – in fact I thought we’d brought him in with the view to getting him up to speed so he could do that next season.

Just to clarify between “home grown” and “U21s”. You can only have 17 of the 25 (ie the over 21 years old players) that aren’t “home grown players” – the U21s don’t count towards that, and don’t count towards the 25 limit. We’ve obviously been well under the 17 limit, and Berge because he was still 21 when the season started isn’t actually in our current 25 (though that will need to change next season).

Realistically, Bryan won’t be in that 25 – we’ve moved on from him with Jack Robinson, expect another loan out. So 19 players. We can bring in 6 over the age of 21. Maybe 7 if Callum Robinson leaves permanently, though I still think we might stick with him.

Surprised on a few on there have been retained as assumed the likes of Slater, Broadbent, Eastwood, Graham, Mallon would all be off.

All now not really 'youngsters' any more in the sense most had loans and not impressed at the lower levels. Seems odd as they are blocking the path of others and non have a future you would think with us.
 
I’m going to go for at least the same number of players coming in as last close season, if not more. Given that list I also think we’ll be spending more than last year too, regardless of what we’re telling everyone.
 
An update was requested earlier in this thread - seems a good opportunity with yesterday's announcements. I've colour-coded this with an eye to expiries from next summer, and assume activating Lundstram's year is a formality as we've included him on the retain list. I can't see us keeping all the keepers and Bryan on.

It doesn't necessarily mean we're keeping them & they'll be blocking a path. Once we know if, when, how next season is starting, other clubs will start getting their squads sorted & bids may come in for some of the players you mention

Yeah I know what you mean but all of these were out of contract so assumed they'd be released. Not sure why you'd give them another contract...a year I assume? Just odd as none have a future with us you'd think.

I wasn't too sure about replying to you. As I'm a bit clueless as to what ages, etc command a fee. I just wonder whether they've changed tack. What with being under less financial pressure and all that. Maybe they're just more prepared to hang on. It doesn't cost them much in relation to the PL money. They can farm players out all over the shop. And .... just see what happens.

Last night, only 13 of the retained squad were fit and selected. We may well keep some of those in the "leaving" section before the summer is out but it does indicate a really busy August for CWAK as the rumour I've heard is an EPL start on the weekend of 12th September

Yep, Wilder said in his Adam Oxley interview that some could be given longer depending on what happens. The amount Freeman is getting involved is perhaps already a sign there.

Looking at this list, it seems this is our squad for next season. I've put players Red who may depart. Players in green who may sign (based on rumours) and removed the ones who will be off altogether (K.Feeman, Clarke, Duffy etc.). I haven't included youth players who haven't featured.

Foderingham/Moore/Eastwood/Verrips

Baldock - Basham/Rodwell - Egan/Jagielka - O'Connell/Robinson/Bryan - Stevens

Lundstram/Swift - Berge/Norwood - Fleck/Osborn/Freeman

McBurnie/McGoldrick/Sharp/Zivkovic/Mousset/Robinson​

Straight away you can see we need cover for both Wing Backs. Will Jagielka give us another season? Will Rodwell get a short deal? If the answer is no to both - we need 2x CBs.

Rumours surrounding Lundstram suggest he may be off and Swift is a replacement NOT competition.

L.Freeman, Robinson and Mousset are based on nothing more than rumours on here. But i'd be surprised if we don't sell Robinson.
