Arthur Wharton?

Signed in 1894. Born Gold Coast (now Ghana), mother from Ghana, father Grenadian.

Bet in those days that signing was far more controversial than any Madine or Ched signing.
Good job there wasn’t social media around back then.

Apparently the Gold Coast FA was formed in 1920, then became the Ghana FA in 1957.

Who's Bertonga?
Sabella didn't play for Argentina while he played for us so does that count? Won 8 caps whilst playing for Estudiantes in 1983-84.
First international capped player while playing for Blades, excluding home countries including Ireland and the Republic of Ireland? I'm thinking it's probably Jostein Flo.

used to ply his trade in the Northern League back in the day. His son Britt Asombalonga-Beronga now plays for Middlesbrough.

I had a shirt printed with his full name on the back. I will eventually pay it off in 2024.

Believe it is, Flo signed in August, Nilsen signed in November so I reckon the first fixture was Faroe Islands v Norway, 11 August 1993 if we signed him after the 11th then it was
Norway v USA, 08 September 1993

Flo was unavailable for us in the first 2 games of the 1993-94 season until we received the work permit. He was introduced to the croed before the 3-1 win against Swindon on 14th August. His debut was the 4-2 defeat at Everton on 21st August

This would be before Nilsen then? So Flo would have been our first Non British/Irish international?

I thought this thread was going to be about Wilder finding his passport.

We signed Nilsen in November. Flo played a match for Norway against Poland in Sept and scored

Was there ever a legitimate reason for him permanently wearing that cast while he was with us ? Or did he just think it was cool?
