Good call. I've just realised I had boyhood crushes on a lot of attractive women but only ever 'worshipped' Edwards. And I didn't really worship him, I just wanted to be him. For three reasons; he scored a lot, he played for us, a girl I fancied thought he was fit.

I don't get this thing about Sabella when these threads pop up. He didn't play many games for us, didn't score many goals and didn't like cold weather. He was part of the team that got us relegated and worst of all, hid behind the referee for most of the BDM match after getting an early clog. Apart from a few flashes of brilliance, he really did fuck all of note for us. As the saying goes, the older we get, the better they were...

Deano is the obvious one, but i'm also gonna say Gage & Wilder were players I admired.

Growing up I had the misfortune of playing fullback so always looked out for ours at games. Like them I may not have been the most skillful but was more than able to make a tackle!!

Also met Gage after the Palarse playoff final loss & he was distraught. Made me respect him even more.

It may be a while before people reminisce about how good Hammond, Woolford and Sammon were...

....worshipped.

70s we had Currie.
80s Edwards.
90s Deane. (and late 80s)
00s Brown
This decade.....Conor Sammon.

What was your boyhood crush.

Me. Old Keith Edwards.[/QUOTE

Alan Woodward first but then Currie gradually took over. Watching him glide past opponents whilst blowing kisses to the crowd was just magic, and he looked like a god.

Dean Hammond...yes, I am Nigel Adkins ;)

First season loved Booker, Agana, Bryson, however Deano was always the main man.

Loved it when we signed Vinnie Jones, a player who someone else had heard of.

It became harder to love em after that, the Sheffield lads are always loved, Bradders etc and loved Jan Aage and his celebrations.

Sharp these days, a Blade, a real fan and doing it for his club.

'Doc' Pace, top player, top man.He was a great goal scorer, good with both feet and the best header of a ball i've seen in the great red and white stripes. He was top scorer in 6 successive season in the late 50's early 60's,all this for the princely sum of £12k,what a bargain, what a player !!

Christian Nade for me, funnily enough.

He was always a trier and I liked that. The Arsenal game showed what he was capable of and he showed glimpses at other times too, although he never really fulfilled his potential at the Blades. I liked him though and I was gutted when Robson got rid of him, because he'd have terrorised the Championship if you ask me.

Thankfully I wasn't gutted for too long because I ended up becoming him in 2011. I have his memories and everything.

Alex Sabella even wrote to Jim'll fix it to meet him......he seemed a nice bloke whatever happened to him?

Whitehouse - career tragically cut short, first player i idolised as a young kid.
Katchouro - not sure why, but always like him.
Tracey - stalwart and great servant of the club.
Brown - the 02-03 season will live long in the memory and he was responsible for many of the best moments from that season.
Morgs - gave his all in every game, and you knew that he was someone who wanted to win as much as we did in the stands.
Cresswell - a battler, got booed at the start but proved many wrong
Sharp - twice binned off, finally getting to lead the line as captain of the team he supports
Jake Wright - another who proved doubters wrong, a leader and also shows that you don't have to be the fastest or most skilful to be a great defender.

First heroes- Deane and Kelly.. club legends

Later, Peschi, Kabba & Jags

Morgs was the cult hero. Can still hear the sound of the Kop singing 'Morgan, knock him out, Morgan Morgan knock him out' when something had kicked off on the pitch

Ndlovu - with my earliest memories of United being very late 90s early 2000 it was amazing to see a player do a step over.

TC, hon mentions to Geoff Salmons ( no relation), Gil Reece, Dearden, Badger, Woodward, Mick Jones, Sherman, Hockey,

Strange one but really felt Petr Katchuro was bloody great! From Belarus signed by the late great Howard Kendall
