Has been a real problem for us this season, with JCR and Murphy, once again guilty of wastefulness on Saturday. When the aforenamed are on song we don't have a problem getting behind defences, but we do struggle to find one of our own players from the resulting cross. Early season, this was due to not getting enough bodies forward quickly enough. I no longer see this as an issue; nor do I see 4-5-1 as the problem. It's about timing of runs and quality of delivery.

On Saturday, from countless attempts, we put in two decent crosses (one from JCR) and scored from one of them - impeccably delivered by Cuvelier.

McNulty can look awful in his general play but inside the box he comes alive. Give him the starts and the service and he could be our 20+ goal striker.

Yes agree with that. Cloughie was getting frustrated with movement in the box in the first half. McNulty's control doesn't look too clever outside the box but he comes alive in the box - play to his strengths.

What is the final ball. Was it the one where McNulty missed a sitter at the lane end with his head or the one on Saturday when Harris ran his bollocks of to put in the perfect cross for him only to find out he mucked that on up too?
I think there have been plenty of fantastic final balls in only to find other players have not reacted to make it the final ball.
Oh just thought of another; Harris again got the ball in a great position only to find out the Higdon did not move from the edge of the area, Harris hung about long enough and put the ball to a similar position to which he did for Higdon to score against MK a few weeks ago.

I think there seems to be persistant undeserved criticism aimed towards JCR for his final ball. On Saturday, there werre actually 3 or 4 good balls into the box, but they only look good if you have men in the box on the end of them. It's getting men into the box where we fail.

Week after week our attacking play comes down the right, followed by crticism of JCR's delivery. It seems to miss several points;

  • The vast majority of our final ball come from JCR. He's the only one prepared to gamble.
  • Very little has come from the left of late, you can't directly criticise what doesn't happen.
  • Midfielders, such as Scougall, constantly take the easy option out wide, to JCR. They never take responsibility and go through the middle themselves.
For me, our main problem is lack of drive into the box, as is evident by the change in fortune in the final third of the match when we actually do. This constant criticism of the one player who is always positive and always drives for goal is both unfair and misplaced, IMHO.

Agree with most of your points regarding JCR - he always looks to be positive, which is what Cloughie demands of his wingers. Scougall - to be fair - does try to attack through the middle and creates a few openings, but we need more goals and assists from him.

You can say what you want about JCR but he's entertained me plenty this season a player who impulsively takes on players and the majority of the time goes past them some say his delivery is poor but I've lost count of the times he's put in a cross and nobody there.
Play with wingers you got to have two front men.

Take another look and question how much he does it. I think you'll be surprised fella.

Scougal works really hard off the ball, but for all the pace and trickery, mainly plays it safe when on it.

"Play with wingers you got to have two front men."

Mourinho, Wenger et al disagree.

Final ball? What happened to investment?

More important, what happens if we burst it?
