Last night took us over the standard marker everyone puts on safety at the start of the season. While, practically speaking, we've known we're safe for quite a while now, this has been the landmark figure in my head after which we could consider everything a real bonus.

Sounds almost pessimistic with how far our expectations have risen but it's worth bearing in mind that now can be considered well in excess of our early ambitions, and to exceed it with 14 games remaining, while not carrying the same glory as strolling to 100 points, has to be considered an achievement on a similar par, objectively speaking. When you look at the teams we're competing with in terms of the spending on individual players, wages, the ability to attract players, and the relative standing of the club compared to teams that started the season as established, stable, Championship clubs, and for me and others to have this bizarre feeling that holding on to a 2-1 win against QPR is somehow an under-performance is remarkable.

I think we all share the same ambition now, and have that faint feeling that we might just be able to pull it off, but I think it's well worth saying that, whatever happens from here, this season has been a huge success. The players, manager, and dare I say it, the board, have all been pulling in the same direction and done their bit.

Sheffield United aren't just paying the Championship a visit, they aren't just living on early momentum, we're back and we mean it.
