Few points from tonight

Loved watching Peck,he was great with and wirhout the ball, passes it off first time, keeps the ball moving, gets tackles and challwnges in,and backs himself in possession when under pressure...Souza and Anel were class aswell.. .We didn't capitalise on good situations, and got punished by a good side tbf,but 3-1 flatters them a bit, still loads to play for, keep behind them.

Forget about Leeds now…..yes they may drop a few points - but they will finish 1st. It is Burnley or us for 2nd
Fair enough, best thing about tonight is we got one of our hardest games out of the way (and had a proper go at them in the first half).

Leeds should finish 1st now (especially with that squad) and if they don't, they'll have bottled it.

It's impossible for both us and Burnley to win 12/12 games as we still have to play each other, even if we didn't have to play each other both of us won't win all 12 of our games, neither will Leeds or Sunderland.

How far ahead of us were Burnley at this stage of the 22/23 season, and compare that to how far Leeds are ahead of us.

I think this game was a 'fork in the road'.

Yes, we played well for 30 minutes but, to me, it was just a matter of time before Leeds showed up.

We allowed Dan James the freedom of the park tonight and nobody could handle him.

We haven't played well for a long time consistently. Yes, we have won games and found ways to win, but tonight, we were not good enough to stop a very aggressive Leeds team take over the game.

I honestly don't know why we couldn't hang on at the 70 minute mark but it was a window into our season: just remember the 0-3 Hull game for example.

I think the management has done a phenomenal job with the team this year. Its just that the team isn't as good as Leeds or Burnley in a very average Championship league.

I will get ridiculed for this, and I am a born and bred Blade for 72 years, but the quality of this team is not good enough for the top 2 and, tbh, may well be suspect in the playoffs.

And if we do actually progress to the EPL via the Playoffs, next season is going to be a nightmare with the lack of overall quality in this team.

The difference between second and third for us will be the lack of goals scored.
Only if we finish level with Burnley with the same GD.

In all other circs , I venture to suggest that goals conceded will come into it too , coz they , together with goals scored , might influence points gained

Scoring 2nd, 3rd even, when just a goal up before Wilder puts us in Blackwell mode is the reason for my comment, not simple arithmetic or having to hang on.

A lot being made of the Burnley game.

We could be on 97 points by the time we played them.

It’s another poor result against a very top team but we’ve been pretty good at putting away the also rans.

Wilder did everything he could?? Ye to completely ruin our flow. Davies RW?? JRS was just coming into the game takes him off. Diaz was dog shit all game take him off put hammer on. If JRS comes off put Brewster on the right not Davies who's never played there. Cannon up top on his doesn't work never will work every man an his dog can see that
Wilder can't see what lots of dogs can see - I despair sometimes.
In what world is Cannon a sole striker ?
Davies as RW when Brewster on bench ?

Bogle was poor all night so it worked.

Cannon was 8 million. Not a lot for a striker with his record. Next time I come on here he'll have cost 25 million. He was almost onto a few slide rule balls to write a different script.

Clarke was excellent until his sub.

Our issues were the Hamer sub and starting BBD and TC. We needed a big lad off the bench. We can't play at full pelt against good sides for 90 minutes due to the lack of fitness in our squad so the drop off was unfortunately inevitable. Then you are down to the subs
No a criticism of him, but is £8m really a good deal for someone with less than 20 league goals to their name? It's better than Brewsters price, but it still doesn't feel like a good deal to me.

Ah , sorry , I get your point now and agree - it doesn't ever seem to be in Wilder's thoughts , to get more than one to give ourselves a cushion

It's pretty cheap given age and record. Leeds gave 6 for a RWB that's had two bad knee surgeries and was out of contract in 12 months The pigs gave ten for Rhodes about eight years ago.

Pretty much agree with the OP.
The problems began when Campbell was taken off.
And if anyone believes it was a purely tactical decision then give your head a wobble. Sadly he can't yet last 90 mins at full throttle and that ain't Wilder's fault. He and BBD were frightening them to death.
Neither are fully fit yet so they had to be subbed.
Hamer is probably nowhere near fit. Again that's not Wilder's fault.
Sadly we ran out of gas against what is probably the 2nd best team in the league.
We badly miss Soutar - so who do the experts on here suggest we should have bought? Players like him who are available to us don't come round too often. Hopefully his injury heals properly and we can get himagain - no matter we be in Prem or not.

At the same age Rhodes has scored over 80 league goals. When pigs signed him he'd scored over 170 league goals. They really aren't comparable.

I don't think Cannon is a particularly good prospect, and he has no attributes that benefit us as a team.

Rhodes had little resale value and was on the wane, and it was 8 years ago when players were much cheaper. You're correct : they really aren't comparable.👍

Firstly, he were 10M rising to 13M upon promotion. We paid 10M for a striker who's scored 9 goals this season, four coming in one game, 4 penalties and one goal from open play. Transfer masterclass from Chris.

As the OP says, needed a second goal while we were on top.
Leeds are the best side in the Championship and of course come the end of the season will go up. It is up to us to now win the race with Burnley.

Hang on here, Clarke and Raki were shocking, everything they fired at us came down there left, Clarke is just a ball watcher, raki needs to learn his defensive duties and back up Clarke because he certainly needs some help,
Clarke excellent? Caught ball watching too often
Agree, worse player on pitch tonight he can breathe all he likes through his backside but he still dosent know the basics of defending.....not a good buy by the recruitment team,

He cost eight up front. Glad to see you welcoming our new players to the club and giving them a fair crack of the whip 🤣. Supporters masterclass.

Well said,

Fair crack of the whip? he's had several games where he's done absolutely nothing... Are you still giving Brewster a fair crack? xD

Four years is a bit longer than four games last time I checked (I assume you're joking?). Are you stood outside the academy booing the youth players?

Not at all, just those ones who we've spent considerable clover on.. who look worse than those youth players :)

Coz they're not fit enough

Crikey , if that happens , there is certainly no point in us going up.

Look at how much stronger their squad is than ours , Rothwell & Gnonto on the bench would would walk into our starting eleven.

And then think of the investment to come their way in the PL.
They will still struggle because those players you refer to probably don't even get on the bench in a midtable Prem side. That's the reality. For the second season running, it looks like the three promoted sides will all be relegated, and it's not even a close contest. Ipswich doing a Luton but will gallantly fail, Leicester and Southampton have been awful and Leicester have a decent squad.
Without spending about £150m we'd be in the same position. We're light years away from that kind of status.

His defensive positional sense is woeful.

To be fair to him, and I’m not suggesting he’s faultless, but most times those around us laid into him for that, he’d made a decision I’d seen coming earlier in the passage of play due to Rak-Sakyis decision making. He was caught between covering inside and coming out, often with effectively two men.

To be fair to Rak-Sakyi too, he was being encouraged to do more both ways… so was being hammered by the lads further forward for not being on the front foot, whilst being called out for not tracking back.

Tempted to agree with the OP, which is a decent, fair summary.
We had a good go at it, didnt finish them off and paid the price. No complaints here.
Maybe Wilder will have a look at some of the subs, but we gave a decent account of ourselves.
We need more investment in the squad, we have struggled to dominate since Souttar and Blaster injuries. Right back still a concern.
