Feeling sorry for West Ham Fans

Generally can't believe some people are still holding a grudge for something that happened over 20 years ago, and some of their fans wearing Tevez masks. Come on, if it was the other way round surely we'd be doing some shithousery it's bloody football!

I mean you can argue that there were other offences committed in the same incident that could have been given as a penalty to West Ham.

You could argue that there have been similar offences committed in other games (some also to the benefit of Arsenal) that weren't penalised, but surely they can't be saying that isn't a foul? Raya is clearly impeded from catching the ball, which he would have done 99% of the time.

They'd have been better hoping for the 1% time he drops it than committing a blantent foul in a game that has such major implications at both ends of the table. That is getting given as a foul every time.

If we hadn't been 10 points in front of West Ham in late February and blown it and Covid we would have spent 20 years in the PL now

Come back in 19 years and tell me how you feel about VAR in the PO final.

Stuff (footballing wise) that happens in your 20's and 30's tends to stick around with you a lot more than the stuff that happens in your childhood. Or at least the injustices do. The magical stuff from your childhood sticks a round more.

Although I'm still a bit salty about the goal that Man U scored against us in the 1990(?) FA Cup - I'm sure that went out...

All this shirt tugging and grabbing in the box is a blight on the game that has taken far too long to be punished and clamped down on, so they're all pushing the envelope as far as they can get away with.

I guess from the ref/VAR's point of view, they have to break down the situation based on where the ball is and who is likely to have the biggest effect on it. In that situation, the ball is Raya's to go for and was stopped. There's plenty of other stuff going on that's punishable but its a case of which offence is having a bigger effect on the outcome - they can't just let it all slide.

In isolation, the shirt pull from Todibo that was happening long before Pablo jumped is the foul that's stopping Raya from getting a clean attempt at the ball than Pablo jumping up with the keeper which I think he's entitled to do. The officials have to simply see the passage of play on its merits rather than any effect it has on the league table and in my view, made the right call under immense pressure.

However, I believe that players are far too quick to be whining and moaning for fouls than taking the situation into their own hands because they've got the safety net of VAR.

Keepers these days seem to be piss weak when in days gone by, a bloke like Schmeichel, Seaman, Martyn etc wipes out all and sundry to get to that ball and leaves Pablo, Todibo and the bloke sniffing his armpit in a heap. Seeing all the traffic in front of him, maybe Raya should have given himself a couple of yards to get a better run at it than get caught underneath, knowing that the ball was going to be delivered into all the bodies in front.
Totally agreed, the problem with a still image is that it doesn't show all the angles that are needed. From the reverse angle it shows more especially from the video footage run through. What should happen under the Laws of the Game is that the referee punishes the more serious offence based on the more serious offence.

I have screenshotted the same angle but when the ball was played.

If we are going off offences happening at the same time, they have a Hierarchy that is below
1) Physical/Violent Conduct: A violent, reckless, or excessive force foul is more serious than a simple careless foul
2) Tactical Impact: A foul that stops a promising attack or denies a goal-scoring opportunity is generally considered more serious than a basic tackle.
3) Physical vs. Technical: A physical foul (e.g., trip) is usually more serious than a technical offence (e.g., handball).

Obvious 1) Doesn't apply in this case,

2) You could easily argue that that holding and pulling of attackers by defenders are stopping a promising attack or denies a goal-scoring opportunities and that should be considered more serious than the "basic tackle(foul)" on the Arsenal Keeper. Although the referee let that one played, similar to our penalty vs Hull, it could and should have applied here.

However before contact on the Arsenal keeper, the actual 1st foul amongst them all is against Pablo (19) along with Todibo (25) therefore if you aren't giving the advantage for the goal it should have been a penalty. But good to see they don't get all the decisions for a change.

Celtics equaliser against Rangers yesterday was nigh on identical to Burrows in the Play-Off final......the goal stood after referral to VAR.
Salford goal at Grimsby in League 2 Play-off , also similar , the goal was allowed,, no VAR ,

I'm just sick of arteta and his touchline antics...never in technical area and always trying to influence officials...knows exactly what he,s doing and fuck all gets done about it.

He's been booked often enough but no ref seems to have the bollocks to show him a red card.

simple fact is west ham broke the premier league rules in 2007 with tevez and they knew they had sir trev swung that one for them what goes around comes around i hope they get relegated
They knew they had
Sir Trev knew it
The PL knew it but connived in the dishonesty.
Sickening.
Odd coincidence isn't it that the EFL do similar with the pigs this year and Wet Sham show that it's almost 20 years before karma catches up with them.

Technically they did get karma they got relegated in the 2010-11 season. So despite them cheating they only hung on to their PL status for a couple more seasons.

Not sure why everyone sees it as such a big shock they might get relegated. They went down twice in the 00s and have been circling the drain for years.

Bollocks to 'em then. I've always been a bit ambivalent towards them but not now after reading that. Anyone who can glibly waste the greatest confectionary ever created, just like that, deserves all that's coming to them.

Maybe they were angry at the amount of palm oil in it and decided to lob it.

Surely spurs presumptuous stadium always assumed too much? Bricks, glass and mortar were never a substitute for a
half decent team.

Would it welcome the ne'er-do-well scrubbers (aka supporters) of championship clubs with open arms?
Would they be able to suppress the ignominy of relegation and tough it out against the diehards of most championship teams?

More importantly, will their players have reduced wages (due to relegation) built into their contracts actually hang
around? I know that the finger of fate currently points towards West Ham dropping down a division, but stranger things have happened.

If VAR is so good ,why did they ask the ref to make the decision ?
Although slightly off point, one of the problems with VAR is the fact that they interrupt in the sense like an assistant putting his flag up for offside makes the VAR model not suitable. The referees are starting to rely on it too much, if there was a communication/technology breakdown the referees would be expecting a decision to be made for them and it ultimately wouldn’t be there. The technology should either be a referee watching the game on delay say 5 seconds and feeding into to the referee on an incorrect decision to allow for a quick decision to be made.

"Danny. DANNY!! Go and warm up by the lino and tell him he got that one wrong."
I don’t like to be a pedant (ok I do) but I love that documentary and it’s Paul Shaw he tells to go and warm up by the Lino,

Danny he tells to go and run a bath because ‘youll mek me sick if I look at yer’

🤣🤣🤣
