Wards beer flatulence? God how that brings back olfactory memories! Thanks.

Just me who thinks that he still actually had something to offer?

Obviously his stats don't make for great reading (15 games 0 goals 1 assist and 2 red cards), but you have to take into account that all but two of his games were under the leadership of the worst manager in our history and came in a period of time when which every single player (including Maguire) was completely abject. As is the case with the likes of Taylor and Cuvelier I think people judging players who played the bulk of their football under Weir as not good enough are being a bit harsh.

TBH I also don't really see the attitude problem he supposedly has. A bit of a short fuse? without a doubt. But an attitude problem? not for me. He lacked an end product but if anything he worked harder than anyone else did under Weir. He didn't complain when he didn't get back into the side after his suspension and from the little bits we heard seemed sorry about what he did. For me someone like Westlake is an example of a player with an 'attitude problem', tweeting things like "hahahahaha they've lost again" (or something on those lines) after he was sent out on loan and we lost a game.

I still think he could have proven to be a useful squad player with his pace and willingness to run at defenders. He's the sort we were crying out for at times last year when we were struggling to break down tiring defences. Jamal Campell Ryce isn't a bad choice to replace him though, mind. Similar player but with a lot more experience and less likely to kick off if things aren't going his way in a game.

Yep im a bit annoyed at this aswell. and surely we could have sold him for some money if we didn't want him? cant see sense in cancelling his contract.
could really come back to bite us, could be a good player for the squad, would have liked him to have a second chance.

But turn that on it's head - do you really think someone at the club thought "fuck getting a fee, let's write it off for nothing".

That fact is we will have tried getting a fee, but he'll be known in the game for being an overpaid petulant knobsack and nobody was interested.

At least we aren't paying him anymore.

ronaldos was pretty bad - axel smeets... worst ever i remember was ashley ward for blackburn in front of the kop

I thought when we got this guy he would be a tremendous buy , quick and a asset for any team looking to get forward quickly ,
with his speed and turn of pace , fast forward less than half a season , and what did we get , a sulky fucker constantly chucking himself to the ground hoping for a free , 2 sending offs , a Billy big bolloxs attitude that goes down like a lead ballon with our new manager ,
No goals , and bottling it going forward when I saw him , and when he came on as a sub ( when he got back from the Shrews ban ) came the smattering of boo ' s , and no , not from me either .
Good riddance to bad rubbish , maybe we we're too big a step up for him ,
our gain will be there loss .
UTB .

I hate it when you sit on the fence and wont voice what you're thinking Dublin. ;)

A talented player (when his head is right). Why didnt he get a chance when many of the other failures under Weir did?

the only things i can think of is that either he told Clough that he didnt want to stay or that they fell out. The smart money is on his attitude being shit.

I used to drink it when I was a teenager out of some misplaced local loyalty. Until one morning after a few pints I woke up and my room smelled so bad I was gagging like a poisoned lab rat.

I'm sure they put sulphur in it. :)

Or, as I say, only someone like Accrington Stanley was interested in signing him at 25% of the wages he was getting at the Lane and Brandy politely said that he would rather see out his contract at the Lane thank you very much.

Brandy showed flashes of what he could do, good and bad, but his next club will be his 9th (unless it's Walsall again :)) which, at 25 tells it's own story. Attitude is a big thing for Nige, and he obviously sees Campbell-Ryce as a better option despite him having the same kind of nomadic career.

We may well lose a few quid on the deal but overall it's good business.

So, no good then?

Aberdeen are apparently in for him.

That said, you lot said Robson was terrible and he was one of our best players in our best season for 20 years :D

Ahh, the passing of Wards! Was always a Stones man myself (or Stooerns!) but did have a few of the old fart fuddler. God knows why in passing through the human digestive system it turned into mustard gas.

I don't disagree with him leaving, that said I wouldn't have been annoyed had he stayed. I do however take issue with the accusations people make that he chucked himself to the ground, he may have very occasionally but from what I saw it was more the case that defenders saw fouling him as the best method of nullifying him. Very disappointing spell for a player who seemed to have great potential, but as long as we don't suffer too many injuries out wide shouldn't be a huge problem as it has been in past years (see David Mcallister).

Robson wasn't great but I think it was more the fact that merely having his surname associated with the club brought us out in a cold sweat.

Seriously?

He was a cheating little git, Ive never seen a player hit the deck so frequently when just being looked at by the opposition.

*EDIT just found this about his player profile on some game or other, check his traits out:

Haha the card's from FIFA but the traits aren't. Fair enough if others think it he may have done it occasionally but I do feel some people are harsh and over exaggerate slightly.

Just heard rumours from a Rotherham fan that Brandy is signing for them!!!

Poor signing for them. He might play a few good games but then they will find out why we let him go.

Seems like an Evans' type of player

I think that's right. Evans is a different type of manager than Clough, more a "street fighter" ready to mix it on and off the field. Evans will look to show the squad how he can get the best out of Brandy and won't give him an inch if he starts playing up or affecting morale. That's OK if results are good, but when they are not the bad apples tend to contaminate the rest of the crop.

Is Brandy a "bad apple"? Clough clearly thinks so but Evans doesn't care, he'll use his match winning ability in his own way and he obviously believes the lad can produce that at the higher level. I bet there's a clause in the contract where they can get rid of him if he plays up.

BTW nobody should criticise Evans' eye for a player, that's his biggest strength surely.

There was a fat character in Street Fighter:
