Billy Sharp has settled in very well and, whilst it's early days, looks a good bet to score a lot of goals this season. He's now scored in 6 straight league games, which by my reckoning is our longest run since, er, Ched Evans scored in 7 games in a row in 2011-12 - his final 7 games as it happens (so I suppose it's possible he can extend the run, but let's not think about that).
Billy has some way to go before the club record is in danger: Jimmy Dunne scored in 12 straight league games back in the 1931-2 season.
At the other end of the spectrum, Chris Basham's great volley on Saturday broke his league goal duck for United in his 46th game (he has of course scored in the playoffs) - so he just avoided playing a season's worth of games without a goal.
Our scoring record is good this season, for the first time in a while - we are joint top scorers - but the lack of goals from some midfielders is still notable. The following midfielders have gone 10 league games without scoring:
Jamal Campbell-Ryce - 10 games - last goal v Preston last January
James Wallace - 13 games - never scored
Stefan Scougall - 19 games - last goal v Crewe last October
Paul Coutts - 21 games - never scored
Louis Reed - 26 games - never scored
Ryan Flynn - 28 games - last goal vs Colchester last September (to be fair, he has scored 3 cup goals since then)
Billy can't score every goal we need. More production from midfield will be needed at some point: this hurt us last year.
