You should never have joined a forum of Sheffielders if you didn’t want negativity though mate! After steel, it’s what this city is most famous for.
I’ve been doing this message board thing for years now and it’s quite fascinating actually. You’ll get some folk who literally hunt you down because of what you wrote. They’ll not give you a like for anything and rush to like any criticism of what you write. I’ve even had some who have gone back, literally years, through all my previous posts to try and find something where I contradicted myself. These people must have very sad lives. They get pleasure in trying to hurt or undermine or belittle others.
They believe they know the other person and form opinions on them and take sides and even gang up on them. It’s part of message board life, which is actually a microcosm of real life. People judge people by how they look, or speak, or their background, or their job, or where they live, or what they do or where they go or what things they like.
As humans we judge people on so many things, within a very short time. And much of it is inaccurate. But it’s a form of protectionism and tribalism. If you fit the tribe you’re accepted. If you don’t you’re exiled.
Personally I come on here to have fun, take the piss, have the piss taken out of me, and contribute to some interesting discussions about footy and other things.
I enjoy it. I don’t let the negativity or targeting affect me one iota. I actually feel sorry for those folk and glad I am not as unhappy as they appear to be.
If it gets to the point where I am not enjoying it then I will softly and suddenly vanish away.
But it will never upset me. I wouldn’t give anyone the satisfaction of that!
