Of course it's a nice gesture by Montgomery, but as for the OP's mention of Pinchy, it might be worth stating that he only criticised the former Blade on his playing prowess (or lack of it) and not whether he was a decent human being, which I'm sure Nick is.

Former Blade who plied his trade in the top 2 divisions of English football for the majority of his career.

Wish I'd been that wank.

It was very much tongue in cheek, and im sure Pinchy is aware of it....

What the lad lacked in skill he more than made up in effort and desire, would run through brick walls for the club, how many players these days have that attitude, yes he frustrated the hell outta me at times, however would he have been playing for the Blades if was as skillful as as he was a grafter. He loves the club and most Blades fan love him

Will always remember that strike against Tranmere away !

UTB

True. He used to pass to brick walls a lot though......

I'll give him this. He's never stopped taking an interest in the Blades, and comes back when he can, unlike the Everton volleyball player who would need a sat-nav.

Good luck to the lad.

So good in fact that no one else came in with an astonishing offer to lure him away. There's a reason he remained here.

Astonishing offer? Maybe not. But there was certainly interest.

Pinchy maybe ought to take his own advice and speak to people in the game and ask their opinion of Monty's professional attributes.

No one is claiming he was the most technically gifted but players as shit as some you like to make him out to be, don't play at the level he did for years.

His attitude could never be questioned, didn't he play for weeks with a knackered shoulder and 3 cracked ribs?, seem to remember we had a few players with injuries, so rather than sit on the sidelines and recover, he got strapped up and just got on with the job. You can't buy guts like that.

There is indeed, a bid from Leeds was turned down.

However don't let me stand in the way of you rubbishing an ex-Blade with nearly 400 appearances for United over 12 years. :)

He wasn't shit in the premier league, in fact I thought the played really well.

One of the players of the season for me in fact.
He was a superb destroyer. Monty would've been perfect for a 3 in midfield, sitting at the base of it and protecting the defence. Very good reader of the game, good tackler and full of energy.

Bert remembers one game where Monty was badly fouled. It was ten minutes before half time, it was obvious that he was badly hurt because he went down on one knee for twenty seconds and rubbed his leg. He carried on till half time when he was subbed. He was out for the next 6 weeks.
He never let us down, when many around him did.

You confuse a critique with rubbishing Other posters on this thread have been far harsher in their comments than myself.

4 posts 4 'critiques'. I get the idea you didn't like him as a player.

No need. I saw him play. He was dreadful. A non-footballing shadow-chasing, talentless ragamuffin. The sort you S2 hoofers convert into legends and pretend Frank Lampard even knew his name. It's embarrassing.

The reality is that decent midfielders ran rings around him.
