Whut? So a lack of people typing "ffs" repeatedly suggests silent endorsement of the flare-chuckers?

As for getting away with it, the person who threw the flare was ejected from the ground... had it been a league match, they would have undoubtedly been arrested..

Was it the guy with the 2 kids?? if so what a disgrace that man is.

We are not talking about sparklers on bonfire night are we, we are talking red marine distress flares packed with explosives in a mix of nitrates and fuel such as magnesium designed to burn for at least 1 minute with the intensity of about 15.000 candles and at a temperature similar to a welding torch ............................ and people think it is OK to light these in a football crowd Jesus wept.
If that isn't bad enough ask the fella who has breathing difficulties on a good day what it feels like to be caught up in all that smoke, he might answer you when he can take off the oxygen mask the paramedics stick on him to bring him round.

But we let people drive a ton of metal down a road at 70 MPH with a stick burning at several hundred degrees in their hands, we let people use irons, plug things into electric sockets (few more deaths from that I guess than football flare related incidents) mow the lawn with blades that fly around really quickly, we cross roads, which is really dangerous by the way, we let people own these animals with 4 legs that bite and kill children. No outrage at any of those things is there?

Flares are banned, that much is fact and as such they shouldn't have done it, but the outrage really is way over the top.

Yeah, bang him up with the rapists and murderes while your at it. He's a bit of a dick perhaps but thats about the size of it. Saw a bloke near me letting his 8 year old son shout racist abuse at the Turkish fans, which has a worse effect on society I wonder?

No outrage here I just think people who think it is cool and clever bring them to football let alone start throwing them about are a bit thick.
I wonder what Bradford City fans think of flares being set off in football grounds ? Got any young kids Bladesaway how would you feel if a flare landed on one of them and burnt half their face away ? Grow up man

heh .. a right giggle this.. outraged of Sheffield and all that :D
over here in Graz they're always setting flares off.. nobody ever gets hurt because they don't THROW them.. there is a difference between having the flares and throwing them
just like fireworks.

Why are there so many mentions of a kid who got seriously injured? This didn't happen did it?

It did at a Sheffield derby one of the reasons that G & H blocks got shut down costing the club quite a bit of money and lost revenue, it could have been enough to buy a few decent players. But fuck it lets give the FA reason to come down hard on the club, you know they can't wait to give us another fine for not controlling our supporters.

That wasn't a flare thrown it was fired from a gun. Even a "thicko" like me would object to that. Bit of a difference but use what you like to make your argument eh?

FWIW I don't argue it shouldn't have happened (thems the rules and all that) what I argue over is the "wont someone think of the children" bollocks and "they threw them at the kids".

For the record no one got hurt and its a massive overreaction.

Another dead argument, it wasn't started by a flare but more likely by a lit fag dropped down the back of a stand. Whats your standpoint on smoking? Blanket ban on that?

I will withdraw from this thread and leave you to your own outrage that flares are banned. Some people just can't be educated, maybe you like the idea of bringing explosives into a crowd, smoking weed on the concourses maybe doing charlie in the bogs and generally being a twat to the people around them, I don't so we'll leave it there.

Aawwww you want a pair of glasses so you can read what I put rather than making your own mind up before you read it?

The difference between my comments and your perception are cavernous.

As for getting away with it, the person who threw the flare was ejected from the ground... had it been a league match, they would have undoubtedly been arrested. The rules regarding flares in the ground aren't open to interpretation - possession is an offence. The Police, FA and Clubs have all decided that they will be taking a hardline against offenders and this has been repeatedly communicated via programmes, messages on the big screen and posters in the stands - http://www.facepyrofacts.co.uk/

The only problems you'll have this season are morons who think stark warnings don't apply to them. They should be prepared for arrest and football banning orders.

Linz, as ever is the voice of reason.

While I don't personally have a problem with flares, I think it is right to ban them. I think they look great, they add atmosphere, I'm a young man with healthy lungs and am keen to take my chances with the rowdiest section of fans I can find, BUT that's all my choice, my decision and therefore my fault if anything goes wrong.

We're all aware however, that there are plenty of parents who bring their kids, older/ill people who would not appreciate the smoke grouping under the stands and some people who just don't like it that go to games too. We have to think about everyone. Everyone wants to enjoy the game, and the matchday experience. For me, that's getting at least 5 pints in before kickoff, chatting with fans in the packed-out pubs and then sitting up near the back of the Kop with all the rowdy lads, most of which are standing and singing for the entire game. I don't care about the swearing, the noise, and I wouldn't care about flares. That's what I do. More importantly, that's what I choose to do. Some people choose to make it a family day out, drive in, have a spot of lunch, sit down for the whole game and enjoy it for what it is, sober and fully aware, making sure their kids are safe and that they can enjoy the game too. We have to cater for those people too. Those supporters are just as important, and they love the club just as much as the rowdy boys at the back of the Kop. We're all Blades, aren't we?

I say disgrace you say bit of a dick not much in it really.

Flares, Forest scab fans wanting aggro on Shoreham - it's amazing what some tools will "support"

I sat near a man and his daughter both blades fans when idiots set off a flare last season and his daughter was asthmatic and looked to be in some real distress. I consider myself to have an half decent set of lungs on me being a non smoker and stuff and never suffered from asthma or allergies but I have to admit that I found the smoke a bit too over powering and it made my eyes sting and water and stuff so would hate to think how it made this poor girl feel. My dad asked him after the game how she was and he told us she was asthmatic and it tightened her chest up and stuff but she had since had some fresh air and her inhaler and luckily was coming round and stuff. Might have been all fun and games for the nobheads setting them off but no consideration is made for who is sat around them and who it might potentially cause some serious harm to. If it isn't knocked on the head before too long then somebody will get seriously hurt by these things or even worse somebody will end up on a manslaughter charge for playing the dickhead with a flare.

Anyone who sees these things as harmless fun seriously need have their heads looked at!
