Correct about the two games in 06/07. Was sat on the lower tier at Spurs and it was only half full. Fulham we took a few more, but only maybe 2k. Loads of empty seats.

Seem to recall every away game thereafter being a sell out though, apart from Wigan and possibly Middlesbrough.

With an over 60s rail card the train fare would have been £81.
With senior rail card the price last week was 59.00 return as long as you got the 6.00 am train from Sheffield

I went in 2001 and from memory we drew 1-1 and there were about 100 United fans on the terrace dancing in the rain. Tigana was the Fulham boss. In fairness it was on sky and it was a few weeks after I became a dad for the first time so I was going regardless.
Think that was a Sunday lunch time. Boa Morte and D’Jaffo the scorers. I remember being on the side for this one. Think we had a handful of seating tickets as well.

1700 to Boro on a Tue night when the game is live on Sky is decent. The pigs would have taken nowhere near 3600 to Wigan had their game been live on Sky.

You don’t appear to have commented on the fact that we have the best average home attendance in the Championship either.
And there's a fuel crisis. Middlesbrough is a long way to walk back when you run out of petrol. It was in Sky too. A wet night in Middlesbrough, game on TV and a fuel shortage, there's a couple of reasons we didn't sell out.

Load of bollocks
The club struggles to shift tickets, the fans struggle to buy them.
This struggle goes on because of the way the loyalty points system works meaning a second or third allocation cannot possibly arrive in time.

We could take thousands away from home when only 10,000 were going to home games, but people still won't have it that the way our loyalty points system is administered is costing us larger away followings.

Those with 25,000 points and above should all be eligible to buy tickets from day one until day two. That's it.

First allocation would sell out immediately and further allocations at lots of stadiums would follow

We have a blasé bunch of people that think they deserve a ticket and continue to hang about waiting, which holds the chain up further down

This post is spot on, the way we sell tickets also has a knock-on effect with transport.

On the day Hull tickets went on sale, return train tickets were 18 quid, by the time we had got down to 25000 points the same ticket was 41 quid and all the coach tickets had gone. Similar situation with Middlesbrough.

We all can’t afford silly train prices or have mega points, so get the first allocation in and out the door fast, then piss about with second and third allocations as much as you like.

The game at Craven Cottage was Fulham's second lowest attendance of the season.
Only a night game against Middlesboro got less.

The neutral end at Craven Cottage was usually packed with fans from the away team and a few Fulham/Neutral fans mixed in, but it was not in our case, we just had a few scattered about.

I remember the club pissing about, and by the time they'd sold the miniscule allocation at the left hand side of the away end there wasn't time to sell any more.
A few made their way into the neutral section, but not many, I was one of them, but that section had lots of empty seats, and more Fulham/Neutral fans in it than Sheffield United fans.

I'm sure for the last 3 seasons we could attend there's been only two or three that haven't sold out , and some tip top followings .hopefully those part timers with the big gobs now fill their boots when tickets go to general sale . I'm sure there's some midweek infiltrators on here .😂

You don't seem to understand selling out and selling out

If an away section can cater for four or five thousand, but we get an initial allocation of 2,500 and the club takes such an age to allocate them to the bigger Blade than thou mob, the rest of the seats we could have had remain empty.

We've sold out, but not really sold out

Yes you’re right there were some seats now I think about it but not many. It was before they redeveloped the ground and it was a huge old terrace behind the goal.

Which away sections in the Championship are you thinking about when you mention 4 to 5 thousand?

I used 4 or 5 thousand as a bit of an exaggeration to make the point

Not all stadiums can cater for more, but many can

Leeds for example have a much bigger away section than we do, even though we have also sold out

They get the maximum number possible and then don't piss about with them

Leeds allocate a maximum of 2670 ,saying that I remember 600/700 on the lowfields road stand after selling out the away end ,no other ckub has ever attempted that

I was in ibiza for both. First to get a ticket for arsenal away was them that had a stub from either of the first 2 away games. Those were the only 3 games I missed all season. To me though that worked, if you went to spurs on a Tuesday night you deserved the chance to go to arsenal .
Anyone remember needing a stub from either Lincoln or Colchester yo get a ticket for Hillsborough in the league Cup. Again the most loyal went to Hillsborough .

Yeah, but I was in the neutral section at Fulham and I was sat with the Spurs fans at WHL
So I didn't actually go to either game as far as SUFC are concerned

I can only think of Preston off hand that routinely offer that many. The likes of Hull where they've got a new build that allows flexibility when it comes to this sort of thing (coupled, of course, with shit home support) is about all you have that might work as well

The dingles arent too far off but Preston is always a good away day. I don't know why in particular because its always pissing it down but had good fun at Deepdale

We went in not knowing who else would be there so we decided we'd keep a low profile . Our mate did this by walking up and down the front row of the stand and offering out the whole low field terrace 😂

I was on my own in the Lowfields terrace (Leeds part). A Leeds workmate had a ticket, but couldn’t go. I foolishly took it off his hands. When the Blades piped up in the stand behind, the Loiners were foaming at the mouth... I just stood there smiling to myself.

Bournemouth tickets sold out within 2 days. Therefore the ones who bought tickets must have had 40k points or above (that number could be wrong as I'm not sure which points band it reached). That means that I couldn't get a ticket so no point in buying cheaper advance travel.

Instead I entered the ballot and was contacted on Tuesday to see if I wanted tickets, but couldn't get reasonable travel prices and had to decline. I was told a lot of tickets had been returned.

Then as the match got closer Facebook groups were full of people trying to sell their tickets as "They couldn't make it after all". In other words, they couldn't sell their tickets and had to return them to get their money back. The club couldn't sell them to even the ballot entrants so they went general sale.

Now, these tickets must have been bought by the higher points owners, who I reckon are points collectors who had no intention of going to the game, but hoped they could move the tickets on, still keeping their points, (as I suspect for a lot of away games).

To stop this farce, tickets should go on sale a week earlier opening to people with less points. 25000 points has been suggested which is a good idea, but I would make it lower. 15K would be a good figure, since you would have had to have had at least 6 years of season tickets, or more if you haven't got one for one reason or another. I'm not including points for away games as it has been near impossible to get a ticket for the attractive games unless you're in the 30k+ bracket.

Another suggestion could be to make the maximum points to be capped at say 6 years worth, that's around 16,000 points and start selling at that figure. After all, 6 years of attendance should prove you are a supporter. Tickets will sell easier and allow people to make advance arrangements to get there.

And stop people using their 101 year old dead grandads points, but that's another discussion.

Let’s face it, if you were unfortunate enough to be a fan of that team, you wouldn’t want to go to a crappy crumbling rust bucket if you had a choice?
That’s why plenty go to away games. Gives them deniability if anyone calls them a Chansiri supporter. Going to away games allows them to support horrible football, with no chance of being called out for it.

I was at that Spurs game. I think the deal was if you had wanted to get back to St P for a train home that evening you'd need to have left on around 25 minutes.

Would have been a factor in a poor ish away showing.

Warnock sat in the Directors box in a suit and gave the impression of being overawed before and after. To be fair to him he was soon back in his tracky on the touchline.
