Fans pathetic tonight

The Kop opening solution is to not charge £15 for what everyone knows is going to be equivalent to a reserve pre-season friendly game. My annoyance on the way home last night wasn't that the fans were sh1t, it's that the team was and that I'd spent £15 to watch it. If wilder is open about not really caring then the club should open it up for a fiver to boost crowds and get an atmosphere going to show that WE care even if the club doesn't. My annoyance was only heightened after the draw. We could have got far this year FFS.

How many goals has the Kop scored ever?
i'd say loads.. psychologically. i remember when we came back against Forest. Des Walker looked up at the kop in full tilt and he was shitting his pants. i'd be interested in the stats of how many goals go in at each end. Wilder makes a point of asking the fans to make a noise and be the 12th man so your comment on 'fan based nonsense' is ridiculous.. opposing managers nearly always drop 'difficult place to come to.. ' . that's because of the fans and most of the noise comes from the kop end.

Didnt hear one song sung, Sunderland fans certainly got to our players and you could see it.

I dont blame the fans fully, the club closing the Kop was partially to blame but that was poor tonight.

I said at the game if I had scored that goal I would've ran straight up to the Kop and done a DCL/Vardy celebration just to take the piss out of the embarrassment of not even opening the main stand

Nonsense, we scored 2 at Everton, 1 at Bournemouth and 2 at Chelsea, our kop wasn't in sight at any of the three.

Fans can make a difference I agree, but having the kop closed was not the reason we lost last night.

i'm not saying it was but it didn't help. fans make a massive difference. we had massive and noisy vocal support at all those away games, especially Chelsea. Even Sky sports mentioned it.

We took around 8k to MK the other year and lost, we've had nearly 40k fans at Wembley a few times and lost.

The kop being closed being the reason for losing fits the agenda of the "gerrupandsingyerbastards" brigade, however not all football fans go to games to bang on corrugated iron and shout loudly.

ah i see. sorry i do. i kind of assumed everyone was the same. my mistake ;)

I agree about the South stand atmosphere in general (and that's where I sit now so am acutely aware) but I don't get that about tonight's game - are you saying there was no one who normally goes on the kop on there tonight?

Normally on Kop, in South Stand tonight. Man, it was a baaaad experience.

WARNING Seat G60 should be avoided if the fan behind you is a regular in her seat. Left seat at half time and decided to find an available seat somewhere else. Anywhere else. With most people in the area bored and silent, she commented for 45 minutes on every pass, every move, every foul, every referee decision (in fact just everything) with a piercing screech in my ear. About six phrases were at her disposal and each one was repeated, I said repeated, about 50 times, possibly a few more.

Bring on Saturday, back on the Kop.

The bloke behind me last night thinks every other person is a silly cunt. Fact.

For £100k prize money or £50k for the runners up...yes.

At least the FA Cup offers a decent amount for the winner - £2M.

And retaining Premier League status is worth closer to £200M.

That's why things are like they are mate. Simple as that.

Not quite. The club gets a share of the gate money as well and a semi-final plus a Wembley final will add a couple of million on to the figures you have quoted. It appears United need the money too. We closed the kop last night to save what, maybe £500 in stewarding costs?

ha ha this has made me laugh. Des Walker played in the World Cup Semi Final! He played in cup finals, played in intimidating stadia in Italy, i highly doubt he was shitting his pants playing at the lane in a play off semi at the end of his career!!! I know he played for the pigs but jesus christ shitting his pants haha

the seat behind - H60 - is the only one around that seat showing available for the Arsenal game so presumably one of the few on SS not held by an ST holder

By the end of the season - if we've cemented our place in the PL - last night's game will be seen as a minor buggerance - a 'Barnet' in the great scheme of things. Who cares? Tottenham know where their priorities lie, and it ain't the Carabao League Cup (which lost all relevance when Wendy won it). So we get to Wembley, £200 spent and a defeat to Man. City or Liverpool which would have a greater impact than losing to Sunderland. No more injuries or suspensions last night, result.

File under 'Checkatrade Trophy.' Pointless.

Maybe it’s just nobody cares about the cup. It’s a glorified friendly. Squad rotation and all that shit

spot on, when your going to a game that you don't really care if you win or lose. it hardly bodes a great atmosphere as there are no nerves or pressure

whether its full teams, history, free to air tv, or shocks. as grafikhaus mentions nobody really celebrates a making a league cup final the same way as a fa cup final. so its just pointless

Yes, completely pointless reaching a major final. I mean, we were in one as recently as 95 years ago, and only 50 to 60 league teams have reached one more recently.

Why even bother entering?

Take a big like. No atmosphere without Kop.

Nobody gives a shit about the League Cup. Why would the fans get up for it when the manager couldn't care less? Can we just recycle this next year when the same thing happens?

To be fair though I saw a few people get asked to sit down on south stand today while they was singing the worlds greatest anthem. If your own fans ask you to sit for this why the fuck would you bother
I didn't even sing the 'chip butty'.
I'm such a bad fan.

Think we should have a refund and a handshake for making the effort and turning up last night in my opinion ;)😅

I'm sure Wolves fans - who lost Jordao and Shabini last night to pointless injuries in the Carabao - would wonder 'why bother'. Throw in the equally-pointless Europa Cup, and they're damaging the one - and only - prize, being in the PL.

I'm sure CW - who daren't say the same - is of the same opinion. The only benefit of last night is that too many of our players have shown they're not ready to step up. Everton last Saturday was 1000% more important than losing to Sunderland. If only 'reaching a major final' was the target. We wouldn't have.

So the Europa League is worthless as well?

What is your goal for us? A 10th place finish and immediate exits from the Cup every year?

It's the reason why I just won't waste my time & money going to Cup matches anymore . An understrength team , lacklustre insipid performance , & another embarrassing defeat to a lower league side. What has happened to the cup competitions? to me the hopes and expectations of a good cup run were always magical , especially the FA Cup. Now it seems that they are just an inconvenience. I accept that the League is paramount importance , but I was always led to believe success breeds success.

I’m not sure how a cup that can give you entry to the champions league can be considered worthless to anyone but the top four.

Look I paid good money for that seat and I’m entitled to say what I think. I’m also very dim and therefore have a limited vocabulary.

Anyway I’m glad you moved. I was getting fed up with you breaking wind every 2 minutes.

Can I ask why the OP is always so critical of the club and fans with their posts. I rarely see anything positive?

Didn’t you once say your cross dressing night was Thursday?

I understand where you're coming from. I've been going since 1970 as well. It would be lovely to see them lift a bit of silverware wouldn't it? But the only silverware this lot are going to lift are the knives and forks that they eat their dinner with. I told my kids the same when I took them to their first match about 12 years ago. "Our team, but they never win owt". (An over-exaggeration of course - but not far off the mark when it comes to Cups). I'd commend you to adopt a similar attitude towards watching Sheffield United. Expect nothing - appreciate everything, however small - because it may be all you get.

I remember the Watney Cup final very well. It was back in the day of "Watney's Red Barrel". One of many insidious "keg" beers that killed off beer as we knew it, because it was so much easier and profitable to have on the bar. It sparked a generation of drinkers who like their beer fizzy and cold - and opened the door to the popularity of lager - which takes this concept to a higher level. As if that wasn't bad enough, Ted Hemsley missed a penalty.

I'm afraid it is all about the money. This is the thing that has improved and worsened our national game in equal measure. I like to blame Jimmy Hill for that, but it wasn't all his fault. He hadn't had a classical education and had never heard of Pandora's box. George Eastham as well. There's another one. I had multiple swops of him on the bubbly gum cards - I didn't realise at the time that he was going to start an avalanche of greed or I'd have binned them.

So, old-timer, what do you want and expect from your remaining days watching Sheffield United? I mean, you and I will be dead and long gone very soon, sorry to be so cheery about it, but the clock is ticking down for both of us. I'll tell you what I want...

I want to continue to have the good health to be able to go and watch them live. I want to continue to enjoy watching them give 100% and come away feeling that I've had my moneys-worth, whether they win, lose or draw. I want to see them playing attractive, entertaining football. I want to see individuals who are blessed with exceptional skills playing for United, players with real flair and individuality (I'm talking "exceptional" here - not just good. I'd like to think there may be another TC or Woody somewhere coming through the ranks. Or another Edwards, Deane or Agana. That would be lovely! There isn't a single player in the current squad that I'd put anywhere near any of those guys. The most exceptionally talented player I've seen since them is David Brooks - and of course - we sold him). I want to see them refrain from selling our best players and build better teams around them instead. I want them to stay in the Premier League for a good stretch - at least the next 5 years. I want to see them be financially stable with genuine owners who want the best for the club and its supporters. I want to see the club extend the ground so that it holds a minimum of 40,000 and sells out every home game. I want to see us dominate the Sheffield football scene for future generations to come and put clear red water between us and our filthy neighbours. I want to see us finish in the top 6 and qualify for Europe. I'd like to have a reason to travel to a football match in Europe, when my team is playing and there's something at stake. I've never done that.

All these things, I think, are possible in the 20 years or so that I have remaining in life. But seeing them win a major trophy, is probably not. So honestly, I'm fine with that. As long as I can have some, if not all, of the other things.

(please!)🙏
