The next round is to be played on Wednesday 26th January.
What a pity that they cannot see a better opportunity for the public to watch this promising team.
Why not the following Saturday afternoon?
They are denying people who live out of the city and would like to see what Pemberton is doing. Such a silly decision.

Agreed, I'd love to watch the lads on a sat, especially if we don't have a game, which we don't next weekend, because we're out of the cup!

I suppose it'll have something to do with all the games being on the wednesday as to why we can't move it

Blackpool's under 18s play Preston in the league next Saturday, which is why they can't play it then.

I'll be trying to get down again, I'm off to the derby at Wednesday's academy on the 5th February too. Well worth going to that game if anyone has never been before.

Is it at the Lane or at the Academy

For those who can't make it, we'll be covering on Twitter/here as usual.

Metty - It's at the Lane. Usually just the South Stand open and was £3 last week.

Aye, we'll be off to the Lane tonight.

John Pemberton is predicting an attractive contest when the Blades host Blackpool in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at Bramall Lane tonight (kick-off 7pm).

The Academy boss knows his youngsters will have to be at their best against the Tangerines, who replicate the style of play that has brought Ian Holloway success at first-team level in England's top-flight this term:

"We've watched Blackpool, seen two of their DVDs and they're a good side," Pemberton said. "They play the way their seniors do in the Premier League, are very forward-thinking and have had three lads in the first team recently.

"We like to play football too so I think this should be a really attractive game to watch. I'm pretty certain that of the all the teams in the competition we must be the youngest."

Speaking exclusively with The Star's James Shield, Pemberton has also spoken about his philosophies, which revolve around professionalism and players concentrating on their performance on the pitch rather than their appearance:

"I want people to stand out for what they can do with a ball," Pemberton told the local newspaper, "not what they look like. It runs right the way through the age groups.

"There are no earrings, no fancy haircuts with tram lines in them, everyone wears shin pads, everyone tucks in their shirts and everyone pulls up their socks.

"Our kit is our uniform and I want people to have pride and respect for it.

"You wouldn't turn up to any other job looking scruffy and not wearing the correct attire so I don't see why this one should be any different."

Admission is £3 for adults and FREE for concessions. The Platinum Suite is also open from 6pm for drinks and refreshments.

Tickets are available on the turnstiles before kick-off.

I really can't wait for this game tonight, more excited than I have been for any first team game in a while.

It's a shame really :(

It is a shame.

However, until the Millwall game last week, I hadn't seen the youngsters since their last foray into the latter stages of this comp when Kyle N was playing centre forward and Jake Mellis was pulling the strings in midfield. Really enjoyed that run until Liverpool did for us.

Looking forward to tonight and another chance for them to play at the "big ground". Bring it on.

You have to compromise with genius, Sothall. He'll learn. We do it all the time at The Lane. ;)

Superb win for the youth team and Slew gets another 2. As has been said before - the future's bright. The future's red and white (youth).

great result for the young'uns tonight. thanks for the twitter updates foxy/linz

Coops sr has been down tonight. Was impressed with connor martin and said we were better side. When's the draw for the next round?

Agreed. Why not switch a camera on and stream it?

Because I'd get in trouble ;) :D

Here's the thoughts of a Sheffield based Blackpool fan who was also in attendance tonight:

Just got home and beginning to thaw out.

The lads were just up against a better side unfortunately. Some of the Sheffield United players were very good, and with some of them already having featured in league games for the Blades, it's to be expected.

First half Sheff U were better side but had no cutting edge. 'Pool then took lead midway through 2nd half. The ball came to Tomsett just inside the area, who did a neat turn to take it away from a defender's slide tackle before calmly sidefooting it in the corner. 'Pool then had a 5-10 minute spell where they looked a lot more confident and began to see a lot more of the ball. Unfortunately they lost possession in midfield and Sheff U broke through in greater numbers and put the ball beyond Kettings.

In extra time it took barely two minutes for Sheff U to go 2-1 up. A free kick on the touchline, about halfway inside the 'Pool half, was swung in. Kettings saved the initial header but the ball when straight to a Sheff U player who put it between his legs. By this point 'Pool were dead on their feet and it wasn't really a surprise when Sheff U got the 3rd in the 2nd half of extra time from a cross from the right hand side.

I thought the keeper Kettings looked quite good and wasn't really at fault for the goals. Elsewhere, Tomsett, Dodd and Modu Jobe stood out. Barkhuizen didn't see enough of the ball but looked good when he did get it and ran at them.

No shame in going out in the last 16 though, to a side who have a much better youth set-up than our lads do.

Good Win. Some promising players in there. I was particularly impressed with Liam Wilkinson(15) and Connor Martin(16). Matty Harriott seemed to move in and out of the game at will and Slew had a mare for the first half, he couldn't hit a Barn door from 10 paces. Young Gregory had a good game down the right and Callum McFadzean looked assured and solid.

Our CB (6) reminded me of Morgs, he stuck his head into everything. As the Other 1 (5) looked like Murphy used to. Very good solid pair they were. Montgomery was a little scarey at RB as well but showed good movement and passes in Extra Time.

Captain Elliott has a good engine on him as well.

Can't wait for the next match (I hope it's a good local draw)

What a pleasure it was. SUFC players comfortable on the ball, exchanging passes freely without having to worry about it bouncing off their shins or knees or elbows because they could all control a football. Long hardly kicked it from his hands at all. Everyone knew their jobs and each other's. No panic stricken hoofing, even when we went one down.

The stand-out performers were Matt Harriott - composed, unruffled and ran the midfield; and the superb Terry Kennedy at the back. A young mini-Beckenbauer with blond hair. Sadly he's pretty small and, in the absence of a growth spurt will have to make his way as a full-back or defensive midfielder at first team level. If he were 5-6 inches taller he would make a stunningly good centre-back. He reads the game well, has great positional awareness, gets in solid blocks, tackles and interceptions, also carries the ball forward with confidence and purpose.

Well done lads; Well done Pembo; Well done proper football.

Thanks for the Blackpool view. Agree pretty much with what he said.

We were better for the entire game except for the 10 minutes after they'd gone in front. Once we scored and got back on track there was only one winner.

Don't think Harriott was as good as against Millwall as he faded in the second half but I think the battle he was having with their No8 took it out of both of them (there No8 couldn't do extra time).
Very impressed with the CB's, comfortable on the ball and snuffed out what little they were offering with inteligent reading of the game. No6 was outstanding but, as Pinchy says, too small for a modern centre half (he really did have the look of a young Joe Shaw in most aspects of his game including build).
Connor Martin made a huge difference when he came on and we, after struggling all first half, looked as though we could get to grips with their offside trap.
Overall, another impressive and thoughtful display. I particularly liked how we came to grips with a defensive system we problaly hadn't come across very often (certainly loked like it first half) and they fully deserve to be in the next round.

It all reads as very exciting until you remember how quick we were to sell the Kyles.

Can't wait for the next match (I hope it's a good local draw)

Looks like we're the only ones to have played a 5th round tie. There are 5 more on Saturday (though Leicester or Blackburn are due to play Preston and they're not due to play their 4th rounder until Monday!), then one on Wednesday and the final tie not until the 16th Feb. The QFs are supposed to be completed by the 12th Feb but I suppose they're all still catching up after the bad weather. Can't find where it gives draw dates :-(

---------- Post added at 11:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 AM ----------

Still in:

1. Blades
2. Leicester or Blackburn v Preston
3. L***s v Villa
4. Man U v Newcastle or Grimsby
5. Liverpool v Southend
6. Chelsea v Barnsley
7. Forest v Boro
8. Fulham v Watford

Just checked out the side that we put out for lads on the bench lately and did i really see the name MONTGOMERY ??? Have with got another on the cards??

Terry Kennedy was superb - heard someone saying he's only a 1st year scholar? Needs to grow if he wants to make a CB but looks extremely comfortable.

Matty Harriot also impressed me and possibly the only one 'ready' to step up at this moment.

A shout went up near me last night 'Well done Monty!' the guy next to me says 'You don't hear that very often!'

My twopenneth:
They look a well organised side, especially as we had a few first year scholars in there. I thought both CB's were very good as mentioned elsewhere Kennedy isn't the tallest but his timing helped him win the majority of his aerial duels. Maguire looked assured, how many times did he knock the long diagonal ball to find someone wide left? Harriot had a better first half I think, always making himself available, I would like to see him passing forward a little more. We closed them down really quickly in midfield and harrassed them. Agree that Martin made a difference up front, a great knock in for the third goal. I thought Slew was probably the weak link for large periods of the game, but you can't argue with two well taken goals.
It was good to see a group of lads that felt comfortable on the ball and were willing to move into space to receive it even in tight situations, very rarely just lumping it forward. They perhaps overplayed it a bit first half but were better later in second half and in extra time. Still think it will be difficult to win over some fans, I overheard a couple of gentleman requesting that 'the team 'Get it forward, stop faffing about we it!'

Yes, I know them. The ones who were waving a 'We  Hoofing' banner. They post on here from time to time ;). Happily they were hugely outnumbered by those who thoroughly enjoyed it and will come back for more.
