On a point of detail, and at the risk of accusations of being a closet oinker, it was Ron Springett :-)

One newspaper report said of Saturday's final that it was the best comeback since 1966, fair made my day that did......

I lived on the Lindsey Estate Parsons Cross in the 60s i reckon there was only 2 families of Blades on the whole of the estate we was one of them.
Anyway when they were 2-0 up at half time they were celebrating in the street thought they had won it the rest as they say is history.

mike treblecock ! another hero of mine from yesteryear...........funny how the massive never talk about that bit of history :D

Back at the end of the sixties I used to hang around outside the player's entrance on John Street after the match collecting our player's autograsphs. I wasn't too bothered about the other teams but did make sure I got Derek Temple's when we. played Preston.

Remember sport headlines from a daily newspaper with 3 photos of the guy running through and scoring Here comes the winner I made a book cover with it for one of my school books.

Just like my use for the Independent's scorebox from the Newcastle 8-0 Sheffield Wednesday game: I found it fitted perfectly in the name/form box on my planner. That score was far more important than my name and class :)

Football is littered with names guaranteed to raise a smile.

There was the German footballer, Stefan Kuntz, as well as the following, Argentine forward Mario Turdo, Charlton's Anil Koc, a Swiss(I think) striker, Andre Muff, the Argentinian goalkeeper Assman, and the Marseille fullback, Rod Fanni. These are just a few as the list goes on and on.....

Not forgetting former Sunderland defender Bernt Haas.

Also Dan Petrescu, so named as his parents were big fans of the show, hosted by the now (nearly) disgraced national treasure Rolf Harris.

What about Semen Semenenko, formerly of Lokomotiv Moscow?

I've probably mentioned this in the past, but in 1966 when Wendy got to the final, one of my bitch teachers at primary school ordered everybody to support Wendy. I went home, rummaged through my mum's sewing drawer and made an Everton flag which I proudly took to school every day.

On the Sunday - the day after the final - Wendy arranged an open-top bus parade. This was the first time a losing team had done this (yes, Wednesdayites were just as delusional fuckers 'back in the day'*). I was visiting rellies just off Middlewood Road that day and went down to take a look. As the bus went past in front of dozens of their fans (although the Star probably reported 'a million'), I shouted a few choice words and ran off as a mob came after me.

*and I was just as argumentative back then as I am now. :D

And a clash with barca v athletico Madrid over on sky... I had both games on and a few lads round for it. Stupidly thinking the FA cup would be a dull, formality for arsenal and that the barca game would be an end to end rip roarer. Turns out that Spanish football is just as shite even when real or barca don't win and the game before on sky, Scottish come final was a better game.

Arsenal hull was a cracker of a final

Scottish Come final sounds brilliant :o)

is it soggy biscuit until the latter stages of the competition?

Another first; they did a lap of honour after the match. This was the first time a losing team had done this
