Not in either of the wing back positions*. The closest we've got are Ebanks-Landell (in for O'Connell at LCB vs Shrewsbury, Bradford & MK Dons) and various combinations when Fleck has either been injured (Basham vs Gillingham, Wimbledon & Peterborough in L1; Lundstram vs QPR, Preston & Villa, Lee Evans vs QPR in 17/18; Lundstram vs Bristol C in 18/19). Lundstram isn't far off two footed either so that he's arguably not out of position on the left of the central midfielders.

I’d completely forgotten the EEL games there – for some reason I thought JOC was ever-present that season. I think that was necessitated by there being no other remotely good options – yes, Hussey could have played there but by that point I think CW had clearly reassessed his usefulness. What I would say is that whenever Wilder has had a viable lefty or righty for the three positions in either side, he’s gone with him – it’s generally been a lack of squad depth (or desperate situations) that has caused him to veer from that, something we haven’t had to worry about for a while now. It does highlight another Wilderism though – the reluctance to shift from the fundamentals in the lineup. He will always go to great lengths to keep a back 5. The Middlesbrough game last year was probably the best example of that – rather than start Stearman and tweak the formation, he moved Stevens and put Dowell at LWB for the first (and presumably only) time in his career.

As for Lundstram, he was as I recall placed as the backup for Fleck on the white board in the Bleacher Report deadline day video (along with a line from Lafferty indicating he could also fill in there).

I’d go with a full strength side, take every opportunity to progress.

Dowell also played LWB at Preston in April after O'Connell went off injured against Bristol City in the previous game (Stevens to LCB). We'd obviously abandoned the Plan B of Marvin Johnson for that one after his horrorshow cameo against Bristol - not sure he even made the bench for us after that!

Continuing down this rabbit hole, it does seem that Cranie played LCB for the first half of the following game (Birmingham away), before we brought Dowell on and moved Stevens back to LCB.

If we beat Reading and the draw goes our way This is our best chance of getting to an FA Cup final in a generation,

(I can’t see anyone other than Man City or Liverpool winning it however)

Why Liverpool when they always play reserves?

When do we expect them to go on sale?
Will ST holders get priority for their seats?

Arsenal game with Chelsea postponed because some players came in contact with Caronavirus. Some players self isolating, if the isolation is 14 days that takes them beyond the cup match on the 22nd

They’ll be tested for it like the Forest players have been. They’ll have the results shortly.

Draw tonight at 7:45pm Who are we wanting for the QF Blades?

1 AFC Bournemouth

2 Manchester United

4 Wolverhampton Wanderers or Southampton

5 Barnsley or Chelsea

6 Everton

7 Manchester City

8 Leicester City

Persuming its Chelsea in the draw instead of dingles I would probably say Bournemouth at home. But none of those ties are easy, even without Arsenal or Liverpool in there we still have our work cut out if we want to get through. It maybe better getting someone like Man City and hoping they rest a few or get a load of injuries.

Without fans the fa cup is absolutely worthless
I hope we win it but it would just our luck to win it in an empty Wembley....No point in my book

Bournemouth at home next. Everton in the semi then Man Utd in the final is the route I'm pinning my hopes on.

If we were to actually win it that would completely make up for everything that's this happened this season for me.

I think I'd mention it to my Wednesday mates every single day for the rest of my life.

Yeah, I’d be gutted if we won the FA Cup this year...
I've always dreamed about us winning the cup ,to win it and not be there ...Well it makes football pointless in my book .
I guess if you never follow united Away it doesn't make no difference

It’d be a shame not to be there for sure but I’d still love us to win it regardless. We’d definitely miss out on the occasion though.

I'm with you mate. Imagine giving up all those weekends, putting yourself through all that pain and spending all that money in the hope of finally one day winning something and it all being worth it. Only for us to win it when you can't even be there?

It'd be a horrible feeling. No thanks.

if Soton win tonight - are we thinking they'd be over their injury crisis by March 20th? They could be a good team to play if not

Why would it make no difference to a blade who never follows away?

Well if you never go away to games and never experienced an away day .....your not going to miss a day out to Wembley are ya ?
On the other hand if you have been to fa cup semis and all over place watching united ...you are definitely going to feel it watching us win fa cup on TV
I thought it was a pretty obvious statement .
If your used to watching on TV well it ain't going to be any different to you is it

Not the worst we could've pulled to be fair. If Chelsea get through as expected they'll be playing champions league matches and concentrating on top 4 by the next round. Put a team out like they have tonight and we'd have a chance, they were hardly mesmerising the other week even though they dominated possession.

Rather them than Man City, save them for the final 😉
