I am in the minority, however I don't feel we have that bad a team. If some of the youngsters can kick on this year and DW can find the right motivation in some of our under achievers we have as good a chance as anyone. We need to keep Maguire and Long though

That's tough, Bergen.

Whenever Sheffield United are in the third tier of English football, the expectation should always be promotion to the second tier. Without being all "Wednesday" about this, United should not be in this division for three years never mind more. However, we are where we are because we deserve to be. The squad that finished the season was woefully poor and resembled a mid table side so to ask Weir to come in and turn fortunes around like that whilst cutting the budget is a tough ask.

If we improve our style next year, score more goals and create more chances, then I will begrudgingly accept failure to be promoted. However, for me, Weir has to take the side into the Championship before the end of his second season for me. Two years is, IMO, not an unreasonable request. If we don't go this time, I'll accept the squad building option.

One of the main expectations I have is for him to bring in his own people to make up the spine of the side - and top of that list is a new captain.

I have said before that we should have a three year plan to obtain promotion.

Build a young hungry team. A team which could be ready for the greater challenges in the division above. I say lower expectations for the season ahead, at the outset. If we know where we stand, and what is realistic then we should not moan or find fault so much. As long as we put our best foot forward and try to win each game, with endeavour and grit then that is enough for me.

Sometimes you have to take two steps backwards to go three forward.

I am looking forward to the new fixture list to plan games which I can attend. There will be some highs and lows.

A few wishes for the new season;

To keep all our best young players, as we build a team and resist temptation to cash in, if at all possible.
To go back to Stevenage and avenge last season humiliating defeat.
To draw a top team away in the cup.
To try and win the JPT to get some silverware for once. (I know it is crap but that is where we are).

I hope he not only changes the team but the whole culture of the club, not expecting a promotion next season he will still be learning the job after all.

I expect things to continue to get worse whilst McCabe remains the owner. The identity of the manager is irrelevant.

The club will continue to sell its better players, regardless of its effect on the team. Weir will not be allowed to build a side.

McCabe's refusal to invest and the number of mediocre players on the wage bill will limit any attempts to build a better all round squad.

I am pleased we now actually have a manager who can get on with the job. I wish him all the luck in the World and I hope he is a great success. However, we have no idea whether he will be a good appointment as he has no experience and so we have nothing to judge him on. That said, I'd take him over the likes of Curle (track record of failure/mediocrity) and Morgan (rabbit in the headlights).

Unless Weir turns out to be a genius or McCabe sells up, it's mid table at best, which with our resources would be unacceptable. And there better be some decent recruitment as this sqaud doesn't have 40 goals in it as it stands.

We need 2 maybe 3 strikers, a right winger, a box to box mid & left back (unless Grainger signs)

And cut the wage bill?

Last year we were generally negative, didn't play at all well in plenty of games yet failed to go up in another poor league by 8 points. Given a couple of changes, the team shouldn't be much different in terms of ability, the division shouldn't be any harder, it has to be an expectation of promotion despite the further budget cuts and inexperience of the manager.

For me, the logical follow-on from the second option is the first. We've got, probably, the most talented bunch of u21s in this division but they've not been used properly.

For me, Wilson failed to get the balance of the side right last season, meaning that we ended up with 7 defensive and 3 attacking outfielders. Weir's got some work to do when it comes to squad building, that's for sure!

I'm with you on this I think promotion can be achieved at the first attempt next season, should have gone up last season and the season before so nothing's changed.

They may say that now Dazzler but it would be a different story after we've lost at home to Gillingham despite it being a 'promising' display.

Promotion for me too ,the assets the club has in place , players and structure is better than any other in the division apart from Wolves who could go either way. Whether he sells to replace or reinvigorates certain players will be down to him , but we should surely be looking to go up. My first job would be a purchase of the biggest rocket from the Chinese firework shop on Attercliffe and shove it up Macdonalds arse ,if he doesn't fancy it look elsewhere ,but he could be the catalyst for Weir.

He is not taking over a side that just escaped relegation - we just missed out on promotion despite Wilsons ultra negative tactics, a donkey as a captain, no strikers apart from Miller who missed half the season, no decent wide mid fielders, Porter, Flynn, Westlake, Robson etc need I go on?
If Weir has any future in management he must get promotion this year even with the shower of sh!te he has inherited!

Surely, despite being in freefall, Wolves will keep enougb of their good players to go back up? In addition, I thought Posh were a bit unfortunate. Their start was shocking, but by the end of the season, they were on at least mid table Championship form. Play offs for us then

In terms of actual expectations, I don't expect either of those things to happen. I don't expect us to get promoted or start to build some great thing going forward, because we sell anyone and everyone that we can.

Anything less than promotion this season, like the previous two, is failure. Not necessarily failure for the manager because he will be working with his hands tied behind his back like they always are, but for the club.
