Just seen the goal by Jack Grealish against Cardiff last night. Apparently the media is raving about it calling it 'a wonder goal' . It is virtually the same as the one Evans scored. Yet no mention of Evans anywhere. Media bias or what? Just asking.

I initially thought it was Lundstram who scored it - it seemed like his sort of effort. But it's Evans' sort of effort too, we've seen similar attempts from him in other games.
If you didn't know who scored it, it would be hard to guess whether it'd more likely be Evans or Lundstram wouldn't it?
It's good to have two midfielders who have something like that in their locker.
I'd guess Jack Girlish's goal is getting more publicity partly because it was live on Sky.
I cannot understand how you get such a connection on a side-footed volley. It genuinely seemed to accelerate all the way into the back of the net.
I missed it as I was late logging into iFollow and have now caught up and can’t believe that, even on here, we aren’t raving about this much more. Amazing strike but not being recognized by the wider media

I don't get the idea that Evans' 'sat up nicely'.
This is generally the case when the ball has already bounced. It didn't sit up at all, Evans made a good 10 yard run to get there keeping his eye on it always. The technique was superb, a side-footed Exocet. Grealish's wasn't clean, it was swerving away and any further out would have been wide.

It looked fantastic live from the back of the kop sure it would have looked better in slow motion as wellGrealish hit his off the laces from more of a standing position, so in theory it was easier to generate power, although you could argue that he had to be more accurate in doing so as he struck using a smaller surface area. Also his went in off the bar which always looks a bit special.
Evans was running onto his from an angle which adds a touch of the spectacular and although hitting side footed affords greater control it is also harder to generate power. He had to effectively place the ball by hitting it with very little follow through, which isn't easy to judge especially when mobile.
Both great goals but I am biased so will go for Evans. It just looked fantastic live from the BLUT and even better from behind on camera.
The only thing I can think of to compare to are those David Luiz free-kicks that he sidefoots from about 35 yards out

You can't get technical and then round up 9.81m/s/s to ten.Agreed. Without getting too technical*, it's about the effect of gravity on the ball's vertical speed (velocity, if you prefer). With a ball bounces up about two feet off the floor, it is moving at its fastest when it bounces. As it starts to rise, the 'upwards' speed slows down (because of gravity, obviously). Eventually, it slows down to zero speed (at its maximum height), and then gradually starts to increase in 'downward' speed again until it bounces again. This means that there is a period of time when the ball is virtually still, around two feet off the floor, ripe for someone to twat it**. For Evans' effort, the ball reached zero speed about thirty or forty feet in the air. Then, it started to come down, increasing in speed at ten metres per second per second (with a nod to Isaac Newton for inventing gravity). This means that it was travelling downwards at about 35 miles per hour by the time that Evans hit it. That's quite hard to do (especially when it travelling downwards, rather than towards you), and definitely not "sitting up nicely".
*Actually, sod it. I'm going to get technical.
