The 'Chelsea ITK' who leaked that photo saying we're planning on him being a #6, not a CB

While he can certainly do that, and is arguably better suited for it, I’d still be surprised if that’s his main focus for us. Wilder suggested we were looking for a centre back that can also play midfield, not a midfielder that can also play centre back. Plus both Chelsea and Wales seemed to have pushed him more in the past year to specialise in defence. Will be interesting to see.

Blimey. Was Henderson proven quality when we signed him on loan?

Its a good point you make and it totally justifies my view.

We were a top half Championship side at the time Henderson came and got a guy who had just played 40+ games in league one.

To continue that analogy, if Ampadu had played 40+ in the Championship and got his side promoted, then yes, the claim that he is 'class' would have a greater body of work to support it.

It doesn't. My point is merely that going down this route shows how tough Tufty is finding it and is indicative of our current situation...

Top 6 clubs using us to see if their young prospects can cope at this level, isn't a great medium/long term strategy...
Well when we make into the top 6 and stay there season after season we won't have to do it anymore will we?

Only seen him play a couple of times for Wales and wasn’t very good. Must have something about him if he’s already an international and already moved to Chelsea.

When he played for Chelsea he was decent. Although as always with Chelsea they will keep loaning players out.

Got to say I'm a bit surprised about this signing. Who's he replacing as I dont think he's come to sit on the bench? You'd think it would be Norwood but I thought Berge was his eventual replacement. No doubt he's a good player but if we need cover at CB then buy or loan a CB. I'm aware he's played CB for Wales but think his natural position is as a defensive midfielder.

I'll give you Woodburn, just didn't work out for him.

Retsos - i'm still disappointed we didn't get him permanently as he is a good player. Covid-19 ruined his chances. We were placed in lockdown about 5 weeks after he signed :(

Carter-Vickers - he was OK. Certainly not terrible. Did a job for us whilst here. We've certainly improved since him though.

Just checked back and other full internationals we've had on loan under Wilder are:

Scott Hogan & Mo Besic - success. Both were limited with chances but took their chances when presented.

That's all true, but I said youngsters rarely work out for us. I don't think anything you've said disputes that.

have we forgotten to officially announce ampadu lol. been over an hour since the teaser

Not sure if he's right or left footed, but perhaps there's a concern about injuries across the back, especially with Jack suffering a bit of late. We have Jags and Robinson, but this lad could well be a level up from those and no disrespect to them intended

If we loan him, this looks like good business to me. He bolsters the squad with potential quality, he's played for Chelsea, Leipzig and is a full international. His wages won't be monstrous yet either.

He can play anywhere along the back line.

If he's any good we get a season out of him, if he isn't (like Woodburn) then we have lost a squad place and some wages.

Plus it frees up cash for a striker.

It's win, win, win for me.
