Ertl Signs

While I can see what you're saying;
a) with any form of creativity in the midfield, we would bypass it anyway with Blackwell in charge anyway.
b) Legsofwood never put that much effort in and while I would always prefer a balance of creator/terrier in the middle of the park, in this particular lineup, two battlers who put in 100% is better than the alternative.

That would be like the time (before most of you lot were born) when we had centre forwards called FA Smith and FE Smith.
I don't think they ever played together, though.

Ah, but in those days Broomers, people knew who the players were and they weren't a bunch of nomadic no-marks who no-one would recognise without a big name panel on the back.

They will have to have their initial on the shirt too.

No No No... Chris Morgan won't be having C. Morgan on his shirt. He'll either have

'Morgs 5' or just '5'

Everyone knows him anyway and if they don't, then they don't need to know.

according to the sheffield star website johannes ertl has signed a 2 year deal with the blades and ss is set to be the next player to sign for us

Agree 100% but as we have given the splay-footed one, (copywright Big Mart) a new deal I can hardly see him picking splinters out of his arse all season.

Wan't Tongey the splay-footed one? As in "splay-footed genius"? (tm)

That was the reason he found running so difficult - his toes were always at 45 degrees to the direction he was running. :)

Ertl Shmertle...

Lots of effort without much guile - A typical Blade.

Comment on Holmesdale, interesting to see us as others see us.

I read with interest the comments on the CPFC board about how awful Sheffield is as a place to live and hinting towards the fact that we're all neanderthal scrubbers like the dickheads they saw at the end of the season invading the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday... doing their bit to market Sheffield to the outside world.

And as for living here or in Croydon, I know which I'd pick ;)

Asked a mate of mine at work, who is a Palce season ticket holder, what he thought of him and the said:

"Very sad that he's gone. If you get into a relegation scrap, he'll be great for you."

he then pasted into the e-mail an article about him (presumably from the Palace website)

"The news that Johannes Ertl had signed for Sheffield United came as quite a surprise to everyone at FYP towers.
The departure of a popular player is often hard to take, but add the performances at the close of last season into account and the news is a very hard-hitting blow to Palace fans who've had some truly positive news this week.
Ertl played a crucial role in the run-in towards the last-day battle with Sheffield Wednesday, and his gyrating-hip-dance will be a lasting memory for many Palace fans who celebrated the club's safety following the 2-2 draw at Hillsbrough.
The Austrian international joined Palace on a free transfer from Austria Vienna but struggled to make an impact upon his arrival, spending much of his first season at the club on the substitutes bench.
However, with the financial difficulties that soon followed, Ertl found himself becoming a more integral part of the squad. He hit the headlines in February when his header put Palace into the lead against Premier League Aston Villa. Villa would go on to equalise and win the tie in a replay, but Palace's Austrian ambassador was seeing his stock rise with the club.
While his move comes as a surprise to many Palace fans, there can be no doubt that the decision would have been a difficult one for the player. Ertl spoke to FYP about his love of Crystal Palace, it's history and the surroundings he was living in. However, with the club's economic crisis fluctuating between safety and insolvency, there is an argument that players have a right to look for security - even in places like Sheffield.
We'd like to thank Johannes for all of his hard work last season - he played a crucial role in keeping the club a Championship side and deservedly became a favourite with Palace fans for his work-rate and winning performances.
Good luck at Sheffield United, Johnny"

Wasn't the main element of these people Palace fans?

But as Harry Hill said, Croydon has a very strong branch of Nando's........don't forget the ancient Chinese Ceramics at the museum! :D

'He's a pretty poor technical player, but works his socks off and seems a great bloke. Was becoming a bit of a cult favourite.'

That's another report from a Palace fan. Sounds like another 'Blackwell type player'

I wouldn't say I'm over the moon with this signing but I'm not dissappointed. It's a steady signing and this type of signing is what most of us were expecting this year I think?

They were definitely Austrian.

Definitely...

Thought i'd register to give my opinion on Ertl.

Not the most technical player in the world, but a real cult hero.

Utility player. Looked as good at Right Back as he did at Centre Midfielder and even on the couple of times he had to fill in at Centre back.

As I said, not a top quality player. But definite Championship quality and gives 100% every minute of a game. And if you're fighting to win or get a point, this is a guy you want on your team.

Oh, and thanks for the best wishes when we sent the Wednesday down.

Thanks for that... sounds like he's hopefully been brought in as competition for Monty in midfield instead of those two being our midfield pairing.

We had a drink (or many) in honour of your boys that night :D

I seem to remember reading Palace Forums saying how nice Sheffield Wednesday fans were before their last game, talk of applauding them etc etc ... i'm sure if i'd carried on reading that there'd have been candlelights and all that bollocks.... How soon they change their tune.

Well I'm glad we've got their man for a relegation scrap and I hope they go down.

Don't they realise that by us filling their ground for them two seasons ago that the extra revenue that we generated probably kept them afloat - ungrateful scrubbers.

Why is Raphael holding Leonardo's weapon in that turtle picture?

(Ooer)

and as the theme tune goes:

We've got super Johnny Ertl,
We've got super Johnny Ertl,
Bring him on at half time,
ERTL POWER!

From the OS:

The support at Bramall Lane is almost second to none, almost 30,000 for every home match...

30,000????? Someones been telling Ertl Porkies

I'll give my view on this.

Their fans were twats before and after the game. During as well.

As for wishing us to go down, we have new owners and wont be letting players go for some of the pathetic prices we've suffered over the last 18 months. I'll take midtable consistency for the next few years.

I hope you realise how bad a manager Blackwell is soon, otherwise you'll be in for an average season yet again.

Hope to see you at Selhurst again this year and i'll make the trip up to Bramall Lane as well. Have a party about Wednesday going down. Wankers,

I think most have realised this already!
