I know a player can get better with age but it does make you wonder why he hasn’t played any higher than where Walsall currently find themselves and why a manager hasn’t being willing to pay a relatively small fee to take him off their hands?

I was going to say Midget but I think that is now frowned upon :( UTB

I don't have the stats, but I guess Oztumer's about the same height as Scougall? Only he's a proven quantity in League One, and quite probably would adjust to the Championship as other players have done. Archie Gemill, Alan Ball, even the slight of frame Gordon Cowans, these and many more were easily up there with the best there's been. I accept that there's a gamble, but my view is that Oztumer would rise to the challenge and prove just how good he is.

Out of contract in the summer

Not a priority signing for me. But I'd take him.

There has to be a reason why he went to Walsall from Posh.

This is one player who could become a shoe-in, and given that we're not shopping with a multi-million budget, his acquisition would, with hindsight, be viewed as a steal.

As it stands I don't think we need him but if he's available for 300-400k it would be a no lose signing.

I think it could suit him being a rotation player in the Championship, in a team where he isn't always the main one the opponents focus on stopping.

Glen Cockerill played for Lincoln City for yonks before we got so fed up of him tearing us a new one we signed him (4th division). He finished his career at the highest level with Southampton and was not out of place.

Some players develop early. Some develop late. Some get an opportunity and take it, some don’t.

Most of our team is made up players who no manager has taken a chance on at this level.

As I said in my first line, I understand that about football but with his talents it has surprised me that nobody has taken a punt earlier in his career and made him into an even better player than he is now.

So CW in his interview talking about someone who can create something from nothing, drop the shoulder and hit the top corner. I know it's league 1 but this guy does that for Walsall more often than not. He might not want oztumer specifically but whoever he wants, just give the guy the money he wants and has earned the right to spend. It sounds like from his interview though sadly it won't be forthcoming.

I don’t think that “sadly, sounds like from his interview” at all. So you don’t think we will sign anyone in Jan? Or you do, but they won’t be good enough? I still think we will sign 3 players and there is every chance they will be as successful as most of CW’s excellent signings in the summer.

I do think we will sign players, whether they are what CW really wants is another matter or just what he can get with the money hes given. It does sound like from his interview when he talks about clever, sharper, better players who can do something different. He laughs with andy giddings and says you know that they cost money though. Money which I don't think will be available to him.

I think Carruthers' time is up. He's never going to get a proper chance but hasn't taken the limited chances he has had.

Selling him and signing Oztumer would be smart business.

I think you are giving Carruthers too much credit. The guy doesn't care and was absolutely awful when he came on yesterday. He doesn't deserve a proper chance and doesn't set a good example to other players with him being on the bench, never mind coming on to try and rescue a game.

Joe Lolley is the guy who fits the player Wilder is describing.

Wilder already said he's going to bring in loan Players to fit the criteria you suggest.
To by these players are beyond his budget
and also bust the wage structure within the club, that's an important factor to remember.
Wilder and the owners are progressing the structure ,what comes first chicken or the egg, success is followed by reward not the other way round. It creates a hungry environment for players the new contracts issued to Clarke and O,Connell are good
examples of that.
Value for money is Wilder mantra and that's the right way to go

Completely agree that's the way to go, what I'm saying is though that I don't think the board will give him the money to buy a oztumer, who playing in league 1 won't break the wage budget and with only 6 months on the contract left shouldn't be a problem for a championship club, same with Leonard, yes don't pay stupid money for these players but if an extra say 200k is the difference, most clubs would pay it because in the championship that's pocket change.
