Erase from history

The play off finals, relegation and derby defeats truly awful but for me it was millwall away under Adkins. I've never left a game wondering 'why bother?' so strongly and so down. I looked at my two sons and thought 'you don't deserve this'. Fortunately I'm a blade, they're blades and we can't wait for Norwich on Saturday. You only appreciate the good things in life when...well you get it. Thank you Chris Wilder.

That game was one of the ones investigated for the court case. Money was found in his bank account. He said it was from a stolen car ring although he was never charged over that . After seeing the game at Plough Lane l thought it would be an open and shut case, but a then Wendy director said they'd all get off with it because if they didn't, the integrity of the FA/PL would be called into question and that couldn't be risked. The only conspiracy theory Ive ever bought into.

Not linked with that but I'd just like to say Rob Styles was a cheating bastard as well.
Bert was at Chelsea that day, dreadful.

After watching Wimbledon win on Match of the Day (wasn't it at Everton not Plough Lane?) Bert received a phone call from a close friend who was a Wednesdayite and in South Yorks CID. "That game was bent" was all he said.

I seem to recall the game was at Goodison?

It was at a Everton Bert. I was referring to our game at Plough Lane earlier in the season.

Memorable for some clever kid shouting at Micky Fitzpatrick - all done up in blazer and tie - "sit down you bald headed old bastard" Mr F gave him a 1000 yard stare while those around who knew Micky either laughed or looked like fainting, in case he went to "have a word".

Yes, Huddersfield was the day after. I was in Greece at the time. Told the ex what happened, she didn't give a shit.

Palace was 27th I think. The first and last time I cried after a defeat, although in my defence I was 12 at the time :)

They were all on the 26th apart from the Burnley one which was the 25th.

A couple of scousers I knew told me in the week before the Chelsea game in 1994 that the rumour in Liverpool was the Everton-Wimbledon game was going to be fixed.

Fashanu and Segers were charged in relation to other games, and not that game. I always thought this was because the implications were too big for them to be charged.

I sat down at University to watch Match of the Day that night after getting back from Chelsea and I felt physically sick. Couldn't do it so I left the TV room and drank myself into oblivion instead. I have seen Stein's goal since - I think on a United DVD where it appears without warning for some reason.

I have never seen any of the Wigan game again or the Wolves and Burnley playoff finals since the day of the games and would gladly erase them. I have seen Hopkin's goal from the Palace game and Shutt's goal that sent us down in 1988.

I have never seen any of the Huddersfield shootout. I was abroad, watching the game on a dodgy stream, and it was 2am where I was. I knew we'd lose, so I turned off the laptop and went to bed. Checked an hour later having not slept. Was sort of impressed that we'd managed to find yet another spectacular way to screw up.

I am also proud to say that I have never seen a single second of Wednesday v Man Utd in the 1991 League Cup final.

Same as others have said - Boxing Day 79 for me as a young 16 year old passionate Blade was an absolute kick in the teeth. Never have I been tempted to watch any video/ YouTube of that game since ...... and never will do.

UTB / FTO

Can think of a few threads on here, and South barnsley, waste of fields....

We were pretty much scripted to lose that one!

Yes we were and I was so numbed by yet another no-show it took days to register. However it all worked out for the best. Going up via the play-offs robs you of a month of pre-season and just staggering over the line usually means you're not prepared for a higher level (ask Bolton). Instead, we've ended up with a legend-in-the-making manager and last season was the mosat enjoyable I can remember (probably better that 89/90).

Surprised no one has even mentioned Walsall '81. I was at the BDM as a 14 year old two years before, and at most of the other darkest of dark days in the all of the darkly dark years since, but Walsall was the first time I'd ever seen grown men cry. And, let us not forget, it was (and still is) technically THE worst day in the history of the club. But without Walsall there would be no Darlington. So how can I possibly consign it to Room 101?

No, for me it's Stein '94 and Hopkin '97 that should go. Why? In a word, "hope".

In '94 our safety was all but assured before, during, and right up to the 90th of 90 minutes. Indeed, it was only as the other scores came through on our tinny transistors after full time, that the Survival Fancy Dress Party went colder than Boundary Park on a wet Tuesday night in January.

In '97 we hadn't realised that we suffered from a terminal case of Perpetual Play-Off Paralysis yet, so we actually went there in hope of winning the bloody thing (however ridiculous that might sound to the young 'uns). Until minute #90 left us "feeling sad all over", that is.

But that was then, and this is now. So the two I want to go are Boro and Cardiff '17. If we erase them our current record in La Liga is P5 W5 D0 L0...

personally i'd go for dean hammond's contract signing, but as it says match i'd have to go for the wolves play off final, one i thought we would win and just didn't turn up

At least you got a bus pass out of it ;)
Nice one, but you have forgotten a bit of modern history. The only financial benefit was the old age pension.:( I belong to the generation which has pinched most of the money, so I got my bus-pass at 60.:) Also got my season ticket concession at the Lane at 60.:) Mind you, given the trauma of those 5 years, I think I could sue for damages even at those prices.:(

I think although the Walsall game was the lowest point in the club's history, in hindsight it was probably the kick up the arse the club needed at the time with Brealey coming in. Imagine if we'd have stayed up and Peters had remained in charge.

Sounds like a rotten affair from top to bottom. Nothing surprises me with the bastards who govern the English game though.

Don't get me started on Rob Styles. Worse than Graham Poll and Mike Dean combined that cunt. And a preening narcissistic tosser to boot.

I'm hoping that one day you'll stop all this pussyfooting around and tell us what you really think.

Micky F of Arbourthorne EA fame...or notoriety rather?

Then I know that stare very well ☺

You want to be on the receiving end of his body check. Then when you can breathe again, open your eyes and see him staring at you.

Played both with and against Fitzy and I have to say playing on his side was worse than playing against him.
Very demanding and unforgiving.

CW a chip off the old block methinks!
